bagseed grow

hey everyone...im about to start my first indoor grow...i have grown outdoors in soil but this is my first indoor...it will be in coco under a 1000 watt hps light and a 5x5 tent....here is my question before i start this is what im using for seeds...i have saved up my seeds from some decent mexican bagseed....a lot of the weed was green and stinky even though it was bricked up....the high from all the batches ive saved from has been stoney relaxing...lazy inducing etc....IE a typical indica high...im not ordering seeds b/c my last 2 orders never came through from attitude and i just want to do one grow...i have over 100 seeds....all fat...round and covered in brown stripes...id like to do 12/12 from seed and have been reading alot about the method...however the over all opinion seems to be that it is more suited towards sat. dominate strains due to the stretch they will go through...im wondering what everyone thinks...should i veg them for 1-2 wks before flowering or throw them right into 12/12...despite the genetics being unknown..im more concerned with quantity as opposed to quality (although i want something decent) due to the fact that i want enough to last my wife who has chrons disease before i can find a job and move to a med friendly state....just wondering what you all think i should do...i know everyone says mexi brick weed is garbage...and i agree the way its packed is...but i have honestly gotten some pretty decent stuff that i truly believe if grown right will produce some decent buds...i have hand picked the seeds...all fat and round and stored them properly...please let me know what y'all think...thanks ALOT!

The large scale growing, processing, drying, curing, BRICKING, is why Mex. Cartel weed is generally inferior. Your seed may yield some great smoke, done right. I wouldn't be surprised if it's more sativa like with proper handling which I assume you'll provide. Can't comment on 12/12 from germination. Good luck. -granger

Back in the 90's when I was living in a little town in Michigan, all we could get was brick weed that smelled like a cat peed in the bag and was covered in white mold. Also more seeds than bud. I grew a bunch of that stuff out under the sun. It always turned out way better than the original bag. Sometimes it was a full on sativa and other times it was an Indica. So I guess you never really know what its going to be.
If I were to grow the bag seed weed out with a 1000 watt light and 5x5 tent, I'd take a chance and let it veg for a while and top it a couple of times. Maybe flip to 12/12 when they're 10 to 12 inches tall. If they start to stretch like crazy you could bend and tie branches or just cut it back some.
It'd be a bummer if you immediately flowered them and they turned out to be indica dominant. You wouldn't get much of a yield for all of the effort. Just my two cents, regardless I wish you luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...SW

I don't get it,you could grow a strain where you know some history, yield finishing time etc but some like seedgrows I guess.Start it out with a fluorescent or smaller hid if you have one,you can start with 1K but there are many reasons not to.

thanks for the replies guys...ill post pics of my set up later...floridian...trust me i would love to order some fem seeds where i know the genetics and strain however...about a yr. ago my last 2 orders from attitude got seized...and yes i included the stealth shipping and guaranteed reship option....where i am everything goes through chicago customs which is the worst...therefore i have to take what i can get....the weed that the seeds came from was pretty decent....green fluffy and smelled either very fruity or very earthy depending on the batch...but looked better than a lot of the dried brown shit you see going around...either way im just looking to do one grow...so i can give my poor wife some relief...she has chrons and is in constant pain...also i decided to veg for a least 1wk to ten days possibly 2 wks before flipping...ill keep them in solo cups...16 oz...and depending on how fast they grow transplant to 1 gallon bags...also my light is dimmalbe so ill turn in down to 500 watts...with the metal halide and let them grow...all the seeds ive selected are fat and stripped and have been kept sealed in a plastic bag inside a plastic container

set up so far...havent put my filter up yet...my back was too sore...left the mh light on for awhile at 1000 watts and w/the room being so cool from the ac....its was not that hot at all...so at 500 watts for a quick veg temps should stay reasonably cool...anyways more to follow...light will be flipped vertically once i flower!

crazycanadian, I have a couple of friends that have bad crohn's disease. I grow a high cbd strain that i make a tincture out of. The releaf they get from it is amazing. One of them has cut her perscription med's in half. Cbd tinctures are now available to buy. I believe most of them are made using hemp. Hemp is all cbd and very little to no thc.

Just google cbd tincture and some will pop up.

I wish I could help you out and send some...SW

For Chron's read Patient Heal Thyself, Rubin, and get Garden of Life Primal Defense. It has the usual probiotics plus it has Bacillus subtilis. Offers relief to many. Good luck. -granger

In my experience, mexi brickweed seeds will give you nice buds with good bag appeal and smell, but the high will be the same as the brickweed you started with. If you want something good, buy good genetics.

well it will be interesting...however with brick seeds its not so much a question of bad genetics....(although it can be a crap shoot)...but a question of how horribly the plants are treated...from a lot of others' grows from brick seeds...people have produced some really nice plants that are night and day difference from the shitty brick they came from...i would though like to get some nice seeds...but both orders from attitude never made it through...when i order again it will be from oregon green seed co....either way...its my first time using coco as ive only done soil in the past...so id rather mess up on seeds that were free and plentiful than expensive ones!...i hope to see some pop by tomorrow!

can someone please help...(ill post pics tomorrow...i have a lot)...ok my seedlings seem to be growing slower than my soil seedlings in the past...the first batch on the 2nd day i gave them a feeding of rhyzotonic....they seemed to grow a bit faster after that...i know coco has no nutes...hence why it needs to be fed immediately...they popped on mon...its wed nite...i only see 2 little serrated leaves popping out of them...at least they area nice healthy green...i know its hit or miss w/brick seeds too...i have read a lot of stickies...but there is so much info...and its my 1st go at coco...can anyone offer advice thanks so much!

well looks like i'm prolly the only one here who has actually grown or grows bagseed. Bagseed is a mixed bag, might be sativa, might be indica, might be hybrid. that weed you have looks like good old charlie brown. mexican, does it have a sickly sweet smell? or a moldy kind of smell?

from my experience the fatter seeds are gonna grow more indica, the smaller seeds the more sativa. 12/12 from seed or 18/6 the plants aren't gonna sex until they're mature. at least 4 weeks from seed. what is your goal from doing 12/12 from seed? save power? finish faster? you have 4 weeks before they flower. if you're trying to make sure they don't overgrow your cab just start em at 18/6. i don't recommend 24/0 very least you should do is 20/4. plants need rest too. but at 2 weeks the more indica plants should be branching.

the more sativa will be stretching and you will barely see any signs of secondary growth.

why what luck i happen to have a sativa leaning plant and an indica leaning plant at around 2-3 weeks.

indica

sativa

after 2-3 weeks if its an indica veg till it's half of how tall you want it to be before turning to 12/12. if it's a sativa switch to 12/12. also as you may know indicas tend to have wider tighter packed leaflets than sativa which are thinner and more spread apart.

As for quality, most bricked up, outdoor weed is chopped early, bricked while wet. it's a technique they do and the weed cures on the way to you. if the weed is yellow to dark brownish then it was picked at end of season, if it was dark to medium or lime green it was chopped early and most likely full of nutes and harsh bitter on the tongue.

I'm surprised you have a hard time getting seeds through chicago, i only lost a package once, my friend wrote my address wrong. i'm also surprised that thats the best example of weed you can run across. you need to take a trip to chicago and just ride the train and not look like a cop. someone will try and sell you weed in like 2 minutes. faster if you smell like weed already. if you're in indiana i am even more saddened for you. they got that fire. bubblegum grows right in the cornfields :D

weed is usually always gonna be similar or better to the parents...sometimes. if you find a lot of seed and they all look pretty much the same then it's from a missed male and most likely gonna be true breeding. they don't plant clones in the "south" just sow seed.
if the seeds are all variable then it's most likely inbred/hermie of there were a lot of males around.

but anyway 80% of the time it's gonna be good. might be an unruly sativa or a bland smelling indica type. but it will get you much more blazed than the sack the seed came from. rarely backwards steps made.

lastly for your seedling issues. you shouldn't be feeding anything till the cotyledons fall off/shrivel. see my 2 pics above. the 2 initial fat bulbous leaves when the shell opens. don't overwater your plants. they need a wet dry cycle. the roots seek moisture. if it's always wet they won't spread.

also one more thing. coco doesn't have "no nutes" it's a natural source of K and theres some trace elements in there too. the main issue is that as it breaks down it releases tons of K which can lock out other nutes. so since coco is like a sponge you wanna keep it soaking in whatever you are feeding your plants or else they'll only get K for the most part and lockout everything else. also if you're gonna feed all the time it's better to water your nutes down some so that the salt doesn't build up too fast.

feeding full strength everyday and soon the bottom of your pots will look like this all caked up with minerals.

don't let your plants sit in runoff. don't overfeed. don't overwater. let em do their thing. many new growers..i'm willing to bet all of us who aren't liars or lucky smothered the shit out of our first grow. so much excitement. after a while you'll see how boring and long and drawn out this all is. unless you're perpetual or micro in which case it's fireworks 24/7 trying to stay on top of it all.

so as promised...here are the updated pics....i have 42 plants that have popped..at least half of them are from the buds i posted in this pic...the seeds were the fattest and healthiest i have had yet...they germed and popped through the soil faster than any of the others...42 have popped through the dirt...and i have 36 that im still waiting on...my hopes are to have around 25-35 good strong fems...after i kill the males...runts...and any hermies...i have them on 24/0 as i have experimented between that and 18/6 in my previous soil grows and find that 24 hrs works better....and the growth is faster...also...i have feed 6 of them that germed a full dosageof rhyzotonic...and the next am...they were taller and a bit fuller looking...im wondering how often i should feed them that as there are so many dif opinions...i fed them on tuesday and im thinking ill feed them friday after the coco dries out (let the roots search for water) and feed them again...dont wanna over feed them...but dont wanna under feed them..@stinghobelvi...i kindly appreciate your advice...the seedlings really seemed to like the first feeding of rhyzotonic as they looked even better the next day....its not a fertilizer...but just a root stimulator...ie- gentle on young plants...its honestly been so long since i have grown...years now...that i dont know if they are growing fast or slow now that i think of it...the first six germed on monday night...thats when the light first went on...the majority of the others that just popped have been within the last 24 hrs or so..all are green and healthy looking...all advice is greatly appreciated! thanks guys~

more updates....i have 43 that have all popped within the last 48 hrs...today i gave them all a feeding of water and rhyzotonic...the bigger ones obviously needed more....the little ones...especially the ones that just popped got a smaller amt....depending on how they look in the next couple of days (when the coco is dried out again) ill either give them plain water or more rhyzotonic...im thinking of going with just plain water this next time as i dont want them to have excessive nutrients at such an early stage even though rhyzotonic is a mild formula for root development...please tell me how they look thanks!

Bagseed is awesome, you never know what you're gonna get. Just pay attention to the plant. If you know how a sativa, indica and hybrid plant leaves are structured and can estimate their finishing times, you're ahead of the game. A jewelers loupe or high powered magnifying glass wont hurt either to help determine maturity. That's really all you need to know with bagseed. As I'm always telling my friend who knows nothing but how to smoke weed. Weed is weed, you can spend hundreds of dollars on expensive strains, but if you can't grow you'll end up with mid or worse. The seeds don't grow themselves, the grower do. I grow top-notch just about every year outdoor from mid bagseed, just checkout my sig below if you need some inspiration on what you can get from bagseed. Stick to the basics and don't do too much (its a weed after all), you'll be fine. The rest is just to pop them beans and enjoy the ride she takes you on..
