collecting pollen from a 12/12 from seed plaant?

High all.

I have 5 or 6 seeds of Original Haze and i want to find a good male in there to cross with Dj shorts F-13 and hopefully get som killer genetics:)

I just wondering if I go 12/12 from seed with my OH in 1liters air-pots untill they start getting balls and i can collect my pollen will the pollen "suffer" from that or shall i give them some veg time and 1 transplant to bigger pots for better pollen and better result in breeding later on?

Justin

And this is just for FUN but i want to get the "best" pollen i can from my males...

grow them 12/12 for a little while and then put them onto 10/14 to make them flower. being tropical sativa, original haze will be slow to start flowering at 12/12

also restricting the roots in a smaller pot until they start to flower will make them flower quicker.

simple answer: the pollen will be exactly the same.

also keep in mind the haze x F13 may well have a much increased flowering time.

Cheers mate.

So like 10-14 days of 12/12 then switch to 10/14?

Do you have a guess about flowering time for the cross?

Very helpful you are friend.

I would guess that the haze leaning phenos would be a week or 2 quicker than the original haze and the F13 leaning phenos would be a week or 2 longer than the original F13.

Im pretty new to growing males too. I just chopped down my first two fully flowered out males, and already going to do a couple of things different for next time. I like to grow plants out from seed and usually don't put them into flower until I can identify clearly what sex they will be. This method backfires sometimes when the plants don't show signs early on, and then get way too big. Not a bad thing when it ends up being female though.

Well that's what happened this time, and I felt like the male plant was just too big in a way. I allowed him to pollinate one of his sisters along the way, as well as collect several vile that are now stored in the freezer. But wow, is there going to be a mess to clean up after that sister ripens up! There is so many empty balls and uncollected pollen on the floor of the tent I have indoors.

I think for next time I would control the number of overall branches that the male has, which would make collecting easier. I didn't do any up pruning, and would knock off a lot of pollen while collecting from a neighboring branch.

I found a simple way to collect a lot of pollen at once was to fold a piece of paper so that it formed an edge on 3 sides with an additional crease going down the center flat portion. Then gently tap each branch one by one while holding the paper boat underneath. I would pick out any plant materials that dropped with the pollen, so that there was only a yellowish powder residue left behind. It was fun watching the pollen fall down the crease into the glass vile as I poured it in, like fine grains of sand.

I made a clone of the male before flowering, but felt like a should have some pollen on hand. I just don't know for long pollen stored in the freezer lasts, or if its even a viable method?

hey dab, I have only been growing males for a couple of years now and dont know to much, but I saved pollen in the freezer and still used it about a year later. It was packaged in some folded up freezer paper then vacuum sealed. It was totally viable when I used it . Also I used it twice and resealed with no ill effect. HOWEVER the trick is once you remove it from the freezer it needs to used very fast and ; if saving any portion reseal that part first. CONDENSATION will render your pollen unusable. I dont even store my seeds in the freezer anymore for this reason. Its sketch in my opinion. I have read its actually better to "shelf store " seeds. Have heard they will actually remain viable longer, but thats another thread topic !
