My gardenable space last year was three raised beds:
2x 4'x6'
1 10'x10' -I have a plank into the middle to sit and/or work with the plants. Had my tomato's in here this year.
Last fall to present I have been working more space. I've added:
4 x 5'x5'
1 8'x8' ->in a more shady area of the yard
& a 12' x 25' section. Probably put hoop-house on it with plastic for winter & shade cloth in summer.
None of these are raised. the 5' & 8' beds I've used rocks and logs to create walls/ elevate the garden a little bit.
I only had one gopher this year. Found him one evening in my tomato bed, munching away just on the surface of the soil. Can anyone say shiskabob! Trusty metal rod, some many mice have meet your sharp point and or broad side. It's a competition between my cat-dog, feral cats around and me to kill the mice. In the yard, whatever. But come onto my porch and try to come into my house. Heck no ratatouille.
Next I'll be bringing on the areas next to the fence, nice 3' deep sections, just need to be built up a little. Also cleared front yard of bushes and weeds the past two years, want to put in rows of hops & vegetables up there. And fence everything in with corn.
Want to start a fish pond for so many reasons.
