these things are great for numbering and labeling plants. ive knocked to many plant tags out of pots over the years this is not the time for that.
heres a link. i didnt buy these i bought mine in a store but here ya go
http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Mar...57&sr=8-3&keywords=zip+cable+ties+with+labels zip em right around the stem. if you do it over the first node it keeps em out of the dirt.

Thats ingenious str8edge stickers, tags all work nice until something happens and they get lost or screwed up. Had moved from tags to stickers, and they work ok until they get water splashed on them then its done. Time to start a new labeling system.:tiphat:

when doing more than a couple dozen it can be a pain and take a while to number label etc. i take the zip ties and number out at a table and put them in a bundle and then without regard to order throw a tie on each plant. they are out of order but that doesnt matter to me. the fact that they each have their own number is all that counts to me. for some reason this is way faster for me. i find making labels a complete bore, i hate doing stuff like that. i had moved to buying those boxes of 10 color plant tags and just using color but i still knock those out of the pots on occassion. then i started using colored zip ties and then i found these. i still use colored ties so i can see what i have quickl by glancing at the rows.

just set up a veg room at a friends garage for these to get through the cloning phase.
essentially i need to take cuttings and make sure to keep moms alive til i have 4 copies of each.
one set im going to sacrifice for sex determination.also the few that went int o flower a little bit will need to reveg (lesson learned).
second set will be kept as back up and a third will be vegged for flowering of both males and females for keeper selections. fourth will be back ups for laggers. once these have all rooted ill ditch moms or flower out if i have space.
males will be flowered and reversed at a retired two light bloom room that is been left unused for a while. it is good to go when i am. the grower decided to take a hiatus. he generously said i could use the space.
the females will be flowered in my room. under 1 or two lights for the first round of selection.
i hope there are clear standouts so i can shrink this project quickly.

havent started. im going to give em a week or more. im trying to see which ones reveg and get a little more growth off some of the smaller ones. i like to take cuts with a soft new groth top but atthe bottom i like the cut to be at that point just where it starts to be a little more firm stemmed. its nice for poking through the the hole in the aerocloner plugs or into the rockwool.
itll be a week im guessing.
starting to see a little sign of wrinkle in the leaves and a bit of taco. ill give em water for a couple days and ill just foliar in some heavy 16 foliar in a day or two or maybe some 1/4 fish emulsion as you suggested g.a. and see if that doesnt straighten em out. nothing bad at all no yellowing just a slight wrinkle like it needs a touch of cal and a little less nitrogen in the ratio. the heavy 16 is a multiple sourced mag and cal blend.

Cool plant tags, I am using small squares of white corrugated plastic that I cut and fasten with plant tie wire. I will switch to zip ties and corrugated plastic after seeing this.

Next time you do a kepper hunt consider not toping at all, helps with seeing how branchy a plant is. If you top them they start to resemble each other more than untopped.

um. hmm. dont you think the plant tag on those zip ties would make it hard for you to slide your hand made corregated plastic plant tags on them?
just messin.
i chose those zip ties precisely so i wouldnt be making plant tags. no cutting or fussing just the task of writing 1-65 on the zip ties and zip em around the stem. i just throw em in a pile and start zipping. i dont even go in order. still took me 30 minutes which feels like an eternity to me when it comes to writing labels and zip tying plants. im a real baby about boring administrative tasks.

i dont ever grow untopped plants. ive always been able to tell differences in plant habits. i also cant really let these get tall or even that big in any way. i am also trying for as many clones as possible from each plant as fast as possible. ill get a better chance to see them in comparison on a more even playing field of already matured and sexed clones started at the same time later when i grow them out from clone.
soon though.
i know this is painfully slow but this is the timeline. lol.

Nice thread sir,
So I labeled the seeds by number, kinda pointless I now see. then I put them in solos and labeled the cup. then I realized fuk... Im gonna have to label them again when I tp to 1 gallon. I was planning on using the diff colored plastic popcicle stick things, but the zip ties are an interesting idea. I got close to a hundred seedlings, and I just cloned them recently. It took quite a while to clone, and make a few notes on each one, but I guess u cant get around that, its all part of the learning experience.

Another cheap easy trick is if you have several colors if spray paint. I did this recently trying to mark them. I took a fistful of cheap wooden BBQ skewers and spray painted the whole pack on the tips. So each fistful of skewers has a brightly colored 1-2 inch tip. Makers great markers and they. Stay in better than plant tags plus they double a seedling stakes.

Good idea. But for my project I got 8 varieties and so I need strain labels as well as numbers to differentiate them.
