First Grow, two weeks old.

Hello All,
My girls turn 2 weeks tomorrow and I'm seeing a little yellowing going on.
I'm growing in a 100% Coco seed raising mix. One on left was popped in same coco placed in egg carton then transplanted. One on right was popped in that container.
I'm using organic nutes very mild and since seeing the yellowing have done up some Epsom salts and lime, about one teaspoon each in 10 liters to see if that helps. I'm limited on budget and availability of coco type nutes.

Any suggestions?

Growing micro in a redesigned space bucket of my own. Pics later.
Coco seed raising mix is 16% total N, 3% total P and 12.5% K as potassium sulphate.
Lights are CFL, 4 x 1250 LUMENS ea 5000K ea. cool white.
Using rainwater, I don't have a ph meter, did a test with simple ph tester on the rainwater and it's around 6.0, not accurate by any means.
Because of the yellowing and from reading about coco I mixed one teaspoon of Epsom salts and one teaspoon of garden lime into 10 liters and just started using that yesterday to see if the yellowing got better.
Nutes are organic and not hydro specific.

Set up: space bucket w/4 light on the cut off bottom from spacer bucket hanging down by wire to adjust for growth. Used for just after sprouting then moved to big bin.

Big Bin is just a 73 liter garbage bin (20gal) one 120mm pc fan, 6 "Z"tubes air inlet and front covered exhaust, (will replace before 12/12 so no light gets in)
Lights on Big Bin are mounted on a 150 poly pipe cut length way, (old pipe been sitting outside, cleaned just don't look it) The other half will be used to cover exhaust.

"Z" tubes are black poly pipe cut 45d on opposing ends and taped together to form a Z. No light comes through.

Seeds: One is an Outlaw fem seed from Dutch Passion and the other is Delicious Seeds Northern Light Blue Feminized.

Started in coco but didn't have right nutes so transplanted today into soil with a little coco mixed through and a bit of lime.

Nice job Mr Twister, those plants look way bigger than mine did at two weeks, at that rate you might think about sending them into flower soon or they may outgrow your cool micro space. Nice setup, good luck.

Oh bro, That's the first mistake I made with coco. Don't add lime to coco, it will raise ur ph and keep it close to 7. Coco does much better at 5.8. And a good nute and u aint gotta worry about mag. I see ur in soil now so hope they pull out of the def. soon for ya.

Thanks Guys,
When I tapped out the first pot to put in the potting mix I seen there was roots coming out the bottom of the big plant, I put it back in the pot and tapped out the smaller one to see it was almost there as well, roots everywhere. I wish I had the nutes for the coco because I think they would do really well in that medium but I will pop what few seeds I have left in the coco seed raising mix I have.

I rinsed off the root balls in rain water, just held them nice and easy and moved them back and forth to get rid of the larger chunks of coco. I had the pots ready with the potting/coco mix I did in the shape of a funnel, held the stem and filled in around it until I didn't need to suspend them anymore.

I watered them in a little and put them back in the bucket and turned off two of the cfl's. By evening they were a little droopy so after doing some more reading I trimmed off some of the big leaves and did a topping. This morning they looked fine. Greener and not drooping!

MM,
Since I didn't have any hydro nutes I bought some potting mix and mixed in some coco that I started them in. The nutes I'm using is N-14, P-1.4 and K-7.2 and adding a little seaweed solution. I'm watering it down so there's not much in there yet and using rain water.
I'm going to run out of room so will have to do some major training soon as well.

I wanted to get some clones from these cuz I don't have access to seeds here. I have 1-white skunk fem seed left and 3 normal kush seeds, hoping to get a male so I can get some seed.

So half and half idk what to tell u there prob treat it more like soil then, if its half soil. make sure u let it dry pretty good before watering and it should help the roots to fill in quicker. gl bro give me a shout if u need any ideas

Thanks MM,
It's less than 20% coco in the new pots but I'm very surprised they came back so quick. I've separated them with the small one still in the space bucket and put the bigger one in the Big Bin. I had all soft whites in the Big Bin and switched out two of the cool whites with the bucket, thinking of turning them both to 12/12 in a few days. Big Bin is outside and it's still cool around 55F at night.

Definitely treat them like soil then,
If there getting to 55 that's pretty cold on her. gl with ur grow!

Things were a little chilly this morning in Big Bin. Placed a heating pad under and kept an eye on the temps, just under 80f/26c will see what they are in the morning.

From the description of the seeds I now know which is which, the bigger one, Emily is strong smelling already and it's the Outlaw so little Edith is the Northern Lights.

I also put some coated wire to hold down the leaves away from the center on both girls.

Now I just need to be patient......Not easy!

Hello Fellow Growers,

The girls survived the transplant from 100% coco to a potting soil with about 20% coco mixed through. I put them both into 12/12 last night. When I turned the lights back on I removed one cool white bulb for a soft white in each one. Planning to change all bulbs one at a time over the course of a week or two, why? don't really know just trying it.
Emily, in the Big Bin is smelling very fragrant already!

Quick question: The big fan leaves, can I remove these without any problems to the plant or yield? They just look bigger than the rest and I thought they might be taking something away from the growth.

Thanks
MT

Lookin better in there.

As small as they are and coming out of bad health. I wouldn't unless the leaf is more than 50% damaged. I love to pull big leaves when u have over vegged giving them more airflow and light to bud sites, but that's not really ur situation. If they start stretching fast u can , but idk, just do it l10% of ur leaves or less at a time so they don't stall.

But again ur situation my thoughts are no. Try and tuck it under a lateral branch.

Can i toss in my two cents ?
I wouldnt mix coco and soil. Causes pH problems trust me. If u want something i ert to lightn the soil just add perlite.
Also i would not take off any leaves until day 15-17 of flower. Then clean up the bottoms of suckers and old low fan leaves. I take off all my leaves in the last week of flush by removing two to fives leaves a day daily. I start from the bottom and defoliate up.
55 is too cold. Maybe have your lights on at night?
Ok thats my $0.02

Get you some fox farms premixed ocean forest or happy frog soil ($20). If nobody stocks it nearby you can use miracle grow organic for veggies. If you're garden handy, make some good dirt from scratch using subcools super soil or one of the other mixes. If you live where there is good soil, dig some. All you need is tap water really, let it sit out 24 hours and the chlorine will evaporate if youre not using chloramines in your local water. The Fox farms lines are designed for cannabis with supposedly enough nutrients for 1 month veg 2 months flower, but usually at mid flower, you need is a few supplements (cal/mag, beneficial soil microbes, etc) depending on strain needs and a bloom/pk booster for the finish. It's already the perfect consistency, ph, you name it. That is the 100% simplest way to grow besides throwing seeds outside and not giving a fuck or maybe using auto flowering strains.

Thanks OLG2 & BC,

I have to grow with what I have and since I had no hydro type ferts I had to change to soil after 2 weeks in. The mixing of the coco into the potting soil hasn't caused any problems yet and was done because of the nutes that the coco had already in it and I didn't want to shock the plant. So far so good and the growth, even since the pics the other day, has been very good.

I'm keeping things simple for more than just one reason. My location and country as well as I just wanted to see if I could do it. :)

Thanks again and keep the info coming one and all!
