My best buddy was the "KING" of getting baked...(R.I.P. man, I miss you bad.)

here's a pic of him with a nice tuna he caught back in the early 90's..

P.S. He caught it on a 2 speed Penn International 50, with a stand-up rod and harness...Helluva fight!

it's all about fresh water fishing in minnesota, all the way back in '94 I caught this old bitch, one hour later my bro hooks and lands it's near twin. mine was 32.5" long & weighed 12#12oz after 6 hours in a dry coleman cooler, my bro's fish weighed in @ 12#4oz, again after 6 hours in the cooler. Each fish lost 4 to 8 ounces of weight as we didn't have a livewell onboard.

this walleye was caught in 4 feet of water @ 2:30am under a full moon, I got it on that rainbow trout Rapala, trolling speed was & always is maddeningly slow.

you can get similar results by getting DNR data on good walleye lakes, look up the forage fish on that lake & buy the appropriate #9 or #7 size floating Rapalas that mimic those bait fish. Go out on calm nights (too much chop breaks up what the walleye can see) under full or near full moon, again to help the walleye to see your lure. Troll extremely slow in 4-5 feet of water, avoid weed beds that will snag the lures but trolling just on the outside edge of weeds often get good strikes from 'eyes waiting in ambush mode.

Walleye are by nature river fish, they require a sandy/rocky bottom and slightly moving water to lay their eggs in, on lakes this means the females will seek out river or creek inlets/outlets. post spawn the female walleye are compelled by nature to continue to be more present near their spawning grounds. This is where you'd troll back and forth slowly, this method is best asap after spawn and before weeds take over as the season progresses.

The last big one I caught was 2 years ago & was 31.5 inches long, no weight as it was a quick catch & release after the measurement.

Alright.
Went tuna fishing off shore over the weekend. About 20 miles out.
Plenty of whales to keep us company while we were trolling.

One came up to the boat to get a good look at us while we were drifting and checking the lines. You can see his body under the water to the left of the splash.
Must've known I left my harpoon at home. I was tempted to jump out and subdue him with my peg leg but Mrs. Ahab didnt want to get any closer. :)

I loined them out and packed it up when we got home. Yummy.
That plate is about two feet across.

Coming back we stopped at a wreck and caught a few sea bass and a couple scup.

All in all an excellent day out on the high seas.

That's my kind of fishing Capt Ahab. Had a private charter lined up in Myrtle beach a week or two ago on vacation but the weather was horrible and the captain canceled.

Come to think of it the last three charters I had lined up got canceled bc of weather or people backing out. One of my favorite things to do is deep sea fishing. Grouper mahai snapper cobia yummy

Fishing has slowed a bit around here. Now that the geese are showing up Ive been busy packing the freezer with quality free range goose meat. Got 24 honkers in a couple days earlier this week. The fish will show again in a couple weeks or so, depending on the weather.
