A Taste of Africa from Malawi

I noticed my 2nd one when it took off in bloom went cal mag deficient and really needed cal mag. Still overfed but my fault again. I'm thinking maybe just straight promix hp with lots more chunky perlite next time with just worm tea and very lite nutes later. Anyone else think Malawi takes more cal mag? or maybe just this pheno and looks christmas tree shape and very narrow leaves. I have heard of chelating oyster shell flour with vinegar, but what about gysum that is neutral ph? Reason is I think for organic, maybe some extra chelated gypsum or other??? right before and throughout flower as I use RO water. Peace... :tiphat:SR

for veg i can use 72w tneon and 12h hps 400w.

my room is about 2.6*0.9*2.3 m and less than half is
occupied till end oct.

i will use 3.5l pots or 3l airpots and tip min 2times and do a lot of bondage.

purple killer malawii...... frosty biatch!

Some grows look great and some not so much and I am trying to figure out what went wrong in those cases.
I need to know what makes Malawi (un)happy indoors in great detail.

Of course we all need to know that.

In one case where the plants got so stressed I noticed they were put in tiny containers and had very little space. It seems a nutrients and watering schedule was used that was standard for indica's/hybrids and not very flexible. As a result in combination with these tiny containers all plants got overfed or underfed. To make things worse the overcrowded room made them stretch so much they burned from the lamps (constantly).

What happened there was very sad.
OP explained most of the problems and showed very clear pictures, but all he got was how nice and beautiful and healthy and bushy his plants looked. So he ended up with a harsh haylike smoke and never left the smoke report people were asking for.
IMO that didn't look good for Ace to put it mildly and could have been prevented.

Yeah, you got green fingers, you are doing great.

But all the others who grew Malawi and responded in this thread; g0vnaa, Stimp, Kiwigreen, Mayan, BCJohn, Vladimiroslav, SpeedRacer, Tjo and even Zanddar the first time have had problems, sometimes causing the growth to fail.
Most common problems seem to be (over)feeding and space (IMO) and I suspect light, because there are never any problems outside.

Sativa's and indica's originally grow in such extremely different climates I think we have to start from scratch figuring out how to grow Malawi.
For example in sativa climates RH is at least 3 times higher, precipitation 100 (hundred) times higher, there are more lighthours, but less sunhours, max temp is much lower and min temp a lot higher.
Interestingly all the best sativa's in the world grow in identical micro climates, even always at about the same altitudes.
So sativa is very picky and we have to make things perfect to do it justice.

Zanddar malawi report was the reason i got intrested in ACE.
He is experienced and grows very impressive plants in organic media.

Tjo is the real woodmaster.

Mayan professional upperleg shaper.

Kiwigreen tried outdoor in a bad season, with good results.

vlad and bcjohn are microbrothers, if you dont grow small - dont talk.

and i dont have the time to know the others.

This is international CannaGraphic mag., you better show some pics before you start talkin shit in a Malawi sticky.

a message from my best girl to you:

'So sativa is very picky and we have to make things perfect to do it justice.'

no. one should just forget what he was told about indi dom hybrids, open his mind and start to grow them sats like he started growing at all.
thats my tactic, btw.

read my thread, read how rüdiger started to grow sats.

I like to say this again here:

Always start from below.

low lights

low nutes

low temps

low maintenance

if that works ok, one can climb the ladder, slowly.

Glad you agree with what I said.

I also agree with all 4 points you mentioned. Light for starters has to be very important. It seems succesfull indoor sativa grows are always done under MH or MH/veg/HPS/flower. HPS seems to be the biggest factor that causes stress in veg.

you better show some pics

Hello everyone.
Thx for all the nice thoughts and tasty pics.

High temps produce less than best results.
Starting over now and plan for a great future.

Many questions answered and learning as we grow.

Malawi produces potent f2 and a great strain to play with.

I only use organic tea and too much can be a problem in mid/late flower.

It's really about finding a plant that works well in your setup and one you have a good connection with.

Alright, I bit the bullet and ordered a 5 pack of the feminized. Does anyone know what pheno the feminized seeds are? I'll be scrogging them in a 4x4x7 tent under a 600w in Coco, after my current run is done (which will be a few months). My plan is to pop a bean next week and keep it as a mother, I figure by the time I have clones rooted from her my current grow will be done. I can't wait, I'm not a fan of indicas, they just make me sleepy, hungry and red-eyed. I haven't ever had a full sativa, closest I've had are Durban poison (which around here is a 80/20 hybrid) and currently I've been hooting on some killer blue dream, but a lot of the sativas at dispensaries are way too far flowered, mostly amber trichs and I like my trichs mostly cloudy. I can't wait to try this primitive earthy strain, I'm even planning on cobbing it.

Hi stevewinthrop,

The Malawi fem you are about to grow is old killer malawi backcrossed.
Wish you enjoy her, hopefully it makes a difference to what you can find there at the dispensaries.
