Thinking I just want to sell EVERYTHING and move to Italy, Spain or Costa Rica....

Living in California just sucks! Gas is $4.20 a gallon, rent is $2500 for a 4 bedroom, electricity STARTS around 15 cents a killowatt and skyrockets from there, up to 4X...

Its not even worth it to grow indoors with the price of electricity in California....

Just TRY buying a house right now in California! My partner sold her TOWNHOUSE for $950k and is having a hard time finding a house, she has been looking for months!! You CANT even bid on a house unless you start at 15% above asking price!!!!

And owning a business in California? Try owning three, I get raped with NO lube every month for crazy taxes, FUCK THESE TAXES!!! On top of that MY income gets taxed again...

Healthcare? What a FUCKING joke!!!

I just want to live somewhere on a beach, sell pot to tourists, go fishing and swim....

Rant over, my bad....

No matter where you go you'll always find something about it eventually that displeases you because the simple fact that everywhere you go the critical eye that is making life seem so bad will go with you.

The trick is to not look for paradise but rather look for the place with the least amount of negatives. That and to remain flexible so that when things change as they always do eventually, you can more easily change with them. Start thinking like a Marine "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome".

It's the same BS everywhere you go. Whether its taxes, people, weather, the list can go on forever. I completely understand why people build cabins in the woods to live out their days in relative peace.

What you have to ask yourself is what will bring about that peace and how will you get it.

2500 for a 4 bedroom is about right for San Francisco/Boston. I'm thinking about what one person said about Michigan...house for 70k. Boston has the same prices as the Bay Area and the people in Boston don't really smoke pot, they're all alcoholics

you can't smoke anything in Boston Common anymore, it's an arrestable offense. Even cigarettes. Yeah there's people that smoke here in Boston but it's not the same as in San Fran...here they buy un-named pot and then roll joints and shit. I haven't come across any true dedicated potheads like myself.

I could tell you stories about other places that would make you decide to stay put for at least another 5 years.

Long story short, has one of your neighbors come over with a gun recently and stood on your property, with massively dilated pupils, and try to pick a fight with another neighbor, who is the brother of the late previous owner ?

OK that's just one feud I watch. Maybe I should create a web page and advertise tours ? I could explain the feuds and everything.

That feud is like War and Peace 2.

If your current place is safe and you are managing to save/ invest some $$ every month ... why move ?

I have been wondering about how to turn this epic feud into a video game. I have some decent 3D skills and have taken Flash and Advanced Flash/Actionscript classes.

So what I was going to say is ... if you live in a place where your neighbors are primarily concerned about ==>
a/ Getting Laid
b/ Making Money at something that doesn't involve predatory activities
c/ actually working on their Mental "A" Game
d/ finding some good weed, or smoking the killer weed they just harvested

you live in a good place.

I believe the SF Bay Area generally falls into this category of place.

As far as health care, I do not have access to minimal health care, because I fired the last 2 doctors because they each tried to extort $3000 or more from me for expensive diagnostic procedures, etc.

Last time I needed minimal health care, I drove to another country. This involved more than one tank of gas.

It is a very fascinating subject, the devolution of health care in America.

Also, you can drive 4 hours, 3 the way some folks drive, and be amidst fantastic skiing. That has got to count for something.

I have been trying to figure out how to get there from Humboldt, where I am actually planning to move to.

As one person in Crescent City put it, you can't go anywhere without driving 2 hours on windy roads ... a description of Norcal coastal.

But I like Humboldt anyway. :ying:

Anyway, yes, getting back to that thing about the Bay Area.

The combination of lifestyle, smart interesting neighborhoods, & Cannabis freedom I think is possibly matched in the San Diego area.

The neighbors are usually much more conformist & less questioning of authority in San Diego.

Typical comment overheard at North County Coastal gym, "I'm working to diversify my cardio routine." I thought it was funny, heard some guy say it to a woman, I think it was basically a line.

But anyway, the fact that you can Go to the Beach most days of the year, that is a health related thing that I think makes quality of life in San Diego comparable & possibly better than the SF Bay area.

The trick is to not look for paradise

thats because there is no room here.
not everyone is welcome.
and, not everyone is welcome.
it is what it is.

thats why its so special.

NO KA OI

successful growers have been migrating to the islands since..... there were successful growers.
if you can make it here, you won't want to make it anywhere else.
but if you can't make it here, the islands will see you off.
thats why so many people "try" to move to Hawaii - they all can not.

I keep hearing that....

One of my Mason brothers is trying to get me to move out there. He says it takes about 5-8 years to be a semi-local. He said all the stores have two different prices, local and non-local prices...

I may be able to pass for Hawaiian, if I dont talk!

the 'get free or very cheap oil from the fry cooks', for sure that's, well, let's just say most of the oil has been spoken for.

I was referring to the general concepts of the technology itself, which is a facet of diesel. I was just talking with a woman who is starting a biodiesel parts warehouse and thinking about buying one of my old 300D's.

For early adopters, I wonder if there is some money in training. e.g. a Video on how to take apart and put back together a Biodiesel-compatible engine, like the classic 5 cylinder 3 liter Mercedes diesel.

Speaking of early adopters, Rudolf Diesel himself developed the first prototypes to run on peanut oil.

Also, I think we will eventually have another supply chain disruption where it becomes clear that the people who can run their cars on Canola oil are the ones that continue making money during the disruption.

It is sort of a contest with Canada's oil-sands oil and the North Dakota oil (is that from shale ?) $80 a barrel for oil makes them profitable.

Meanwhile, one other stat is that you get 25 gallons of sunflower oil per acre. If you extract the oil using a diesel screw press, you lose 1/3 of your oil to the process. So the net yield is about 16.7 gallons of raw fuel per acre. That is without counting the energy needed to harvest an acre of sunflower.

I think there is a general appeal in divorcing Mideast sourced oil. The popularity of the Tesla may be some evidence of this.

I don't think it's a contest between liquid fuels and electricity. I think you need both, like with the new BMW hybrid.

Of course, one of the best transportation technology companies is, your local bike shop. :dance013:

Living on a tropical island isn't everyone's idea of Paradise. I agree that it is from my own personal tastes but I know lots of folks that would be miserable living in such a place 24/7. That's why it's a great vacation spot because it would appeal to everyone whether they wanted to live there or not but the one's not wanting to live there can go back home.

The point I was making though is paradise and hell for that matter are subjective. As such the way something seems at any given point in time, is in part dependent on one's mood at the time. If you look hard enough you can find pros and cons to wherever you are. For example while Hawaii is a beautiful place it's pretty damn expensive to live there.
