spider mites killed easily and for free

just last night, i realised my plants had an infestation of spider mites. The leaves had white specks on them so I looked at the underside of the leaves and sure enough there were approx 2 or 3 small black bugs the size of a full stop on each leaf, as well as a shitload of eggs. I run a perpetual micro cab and the oldest plants are about 4 weeks from harvest, so i didnt want to use any chemicals and im also a cheap bastard so i did some reading and came up with this. First, i got about 10 cigarette butts from the ashtray and put them in a big plastic bottle with about half a pint of hot water, then i closed it up, put it next to the heater for an hour. Ithen strained it out through an old t shirt and poured it into a spray bottle and put it in the fridge til it was cold. Spider mites hate cold temps and moisture, so this is good. I put all the plants in the shower and sprayed them all one at a time very thouroughly make sure u cover ur face and hands and dont wear ur best clothes because it stinks. After that i put them all in a kitchen cabinet, sparked a cig and put in the ashtray along with the plants and shut the door. I have just checked them and all the adult mites seem to be dead. I will repeat this every 3 days or so until they are dead. Its not safe to use this method on food crops but as u are going to smoke the plants it doesnt matter.

Yuck...there's over 500 chemicals including arsenic and formaldehyde used in cigarettes I think I'd rather smoke the mite poop.

i read thread somewhere thatsaid its harmless to the plants and if u smoke a cigarette ur going to inhale those same chemicals anyway. I also read that most of the chemicals will evaporate with the water within a few hours

it will probably affect the taste if used late in flowering but u can always water cure it which is better than nothing

hey mouts, mites don't like cold, if you don't wanna get tobacco? (or were you burning the filters?) smoke all over your plants just spray the bottoms of the leaves with really cold water. if your plants aren't flowering yet then a spray of pure 91%+ alcohol will KILL them. if you do this in flower it will dissolve all the trichomes...

thanks for the tip! And i just lit a cigarette and let it burn away to kinda fumigate the plantS.. I have heard of ppl using nicotine foggers so thought its worth a try

Tobacco mosaic? Is it real and isn't this how it would spread. I heard only really shitty tobacco ComPanies sell infected tobacco though.

Think out of the box they are just bugs

The enemy outnumbers you 1million to 1. You aren't going to eradicate with force. Confuse them...

I'm going to impart knowledge from a seasoned growing veteran and Marine. First you must know your enemy. What plants will a fluid sucking vampire spidermite never touch. There are two. Garlic and Chives. Buy some chive seeds and plant a few chives on the 4 corners of your grow room. Grind garlic add to distilled water in a spray bottle and once every 2 weeks spray only the first 6 inches of stem and the floor board on grow room entrance and Air intake area. The smell of chives to spidermites is like the smell of a dirty diaper to a father....u smell one...u hightail it. Had the Incas and Mayans brought animal teeth and friend up shit used in ceremonies and told the Spanish guests eating it was tradition Mayans would still be around but nooo they had to show them gold like we show mites delicious buds and great scents instead of presenting them chimes and the smelland taste of garlic. Think out of the box. Use the art of war

good man, illl try that in future to keep them out. I got some rolling baccy and used that instead as its cleaner and doesnt stink as much, it seems to do the job. I sprayed them the other day and i could see all the wee bastards washing away down the drain. The plants are gone now tho n im just gony move the whole operation.

although nicotine is a strong insecticide, it's not listed as effective for spider mites that I could find. Doesn't mean it doesn't work at all. Cigarette smoke is a big no-no for greenhouse growers because it can transmit Tobacco mosaic virus. How big a problem this is for cannabis remains to be seen. Tomatoes are the most susceptible to tmv, it seems.
