6x15 Lean-to Shed Build

I moved into a new house a couple months ago and have been scoping this lean-to shed for my new flower room. If you don't know, a lean-to is similar to a standalone shed, but the back wall is the exterior of the house.

The space is 6' wide and 15' long with a 6' x 6' rollup door. It already has a spigot and 2 GFCI outlets, but they're on the same circuit as my master bath. I doubt I'll use them except for an emergency.

I decided to build a sealed room with 2 (3x6) flower cabinets on each end of the space and a lung room in the middle. I need to insulate the existing framing, build a couple walls over the exterior of the house, put in a floor, and insulate the ceiling first. Then, I'm going to seal the whole thing up and put in a standard 2' door to finish it off.

I have some equipment that has been in storage for a couple years, so I'm trying to design this room with that equipment in mind so I can keep the total cost of this build as reasonable as possible. I have 4 x 600s, a 12k mini-split, a 45 pint dehuey, and a CO2 generator. A bunch of fans and other stuff too. Should be fun!

Hey Granger. Thanks for the heads up on Prodex. I'm trying to get walls up in the next couple days. I was thinking about getting a couple rolls of Reflectix from Home Depot for another layer of insulation. Do you know how that compares to the Prodex?

Reflectix is basically 2 layers of foil with air space between them. Has very little R value. Like 3 or something. Prodex is Foil/foam/foil, R-14.5. Way better insulation. Overlapped, both will give your room no heat signature. Good luck. -granger

Thanks, Granger. I might have to do some searching today to see if any local builder's supply stores have something similar. I wouldn't get the Prodex here until Tuesday of next week and I'm hoping to finish as much as possible over the long weekend.

I just finished wiring up a few 15A circuits and a light controller last night. I'm running 50A off the main box through about 100' of 8/3 to the subpanel, 30A to the light controller, and a couple 15A 120v circuits for everything else.

Two points, not being sarcastic....

1) Why not go all the way up with your studs? How come that wall is not to the ceiling?

2) When you use that insulation, it is mean to be stapled on the front of the stud, not the inside. One piece would overlap the next on top of the stud. You want your insulation to not be compacted anywhere (if possible). By overlapping the paper, you also make a better barrier. Like this:

Also, will you be extending that faucet?It should be simple enough to extend it by just adding a bit of pipe in between the angled down-piece.

The Prodex will go up fast. Totally easy to work with. You can use it as the interior walls or put it right over the wall. Get their Mylar tape. Use strips of Prodex, 1/2" wide to create air space, then put the Prodex over the strips. Staple, tape. Good luck. -granger

Obviously, construction is not my day job. I was smoking and working this weekend and everything was going pretty smoothly until I got to that back wall. I started off completely absent minded and built the wall full length and height on my back patio. I was pissed when I couldn't fit the wall panel through the door to the shed. So, I smoked a joint, calmed down, and came up with a plan to get the wall in the shed. After looking at it the next morning, I wondered myself why I didn't cut the panel the other way. Probably need to smoke less when doing things I am not that familiar with.

Thanks again, Granger. I haven't found anything locally that sounds like Prodex from calling around. I need all my walls up tomorrow to stay on track, so I'll probably just pick up the best radiant barrier product I can find here.

Back and side walls framed and insulated. Also, working on the ins and outs for the air cooled hoods.

Hoping to get the ceiling insulated and the front wall/door frame in tonight.

So, I wasn't very good about taking pictures throughout the process. I got all the wall panels up and a door framed/installed. I have been test fitting equipment to make sure everything will fit as planned. Trying to get the whole room wrapped in panda plastic tomorrow morning and install all the equipment on Sunday morning. I have a few Sour Bubbles that need to stretch out in this space ASAP!
