LMAO. it takes a real surfer or a real stoner to listen to and enjoy a surf compitition. i can see how listening to it would be relaxing.

or both ?

C'mon surf stoners ... what were we tlakking about again ? :)

OK in all seriousness - I find it helps to know a few of the pro's, or to understand their 'back story'.

Taylor Knox for example. The same stubborn-ness that helped him recover from a broken back, and make it into the minor leagues (WQS) was a liability when he got to the Major leagues (WCT). So when he surfs, it's just interesting to watch.

Now I understand sports journalism, a little.

I do like to watch the contests and listen to all the funny shit the boys say. Kinda sucks though when it is real inconsistent out. Nothing like sitting on the beach at pipe though, but Sunset is better on TV since they soooo far out. Ya gotta go watch the pipe contest in early Dec Arthritis for sure, or fuck just go on any big day.

Every year when there is a big swell during the Teahupoo contest waiting period, I get an ominous feeling like someone is going to die.

One of the tour leaders brothers, Michel Bourez's brother Kevin, ate it Big Time, did a face-plant on the reef. After 4 hours of surgery the optimistic appraisal was that he would not lose an eye.

The contestants are sort of cheating death, it seems. I know they all got great balance but the wipeout is sort of like having 10 tons of water pushing you into a wood-chipper that is turned off. Even if it's turned off, it does take its toll.

I like this picture of Keala Kennelly after receiving one of her Memorable Teahupoo Contusions -
