has anyone experienced a fungal infection from breathing in compost? i've had my head in my dirt bucket and for the past 2 weeks my lymph node on my neck has been swollen. i've been to the doctor and he hasn't given me much of any information besides its' a fungal infection.

last week he gave me a steroid pill but the lymph node is still there.
he's referred me to a specialist but i'm trying to avoid going to them for now..

has anyone experienced this?
i read something concerning this a week or two ago but i can not find the thread.

thanks ic.

Never heard of this happen. I'm not a mycologist, but I would assume the fungi that live in a compost bin are not the same species(s?) that opportunistically attack respiritory systems.

Yes, picked up a few nasties over the years from compost, muck and various poo. Bacterial, fungal and allergic reactions. Gloves and masks are good measures of protection if you are sensitive.

Don't freak out over the lymph nodes, they can take quite a while to subside sometimes. Your body can handle most of these type of insults easily, without the help of pharmaceuticals, just time and patience.

^ M.M. nailed it. It used to be called "farmer's lung" because when farmers burned the hay the mycelium would burn off into the air, and they would accidentally inhale it... inducing infection.

The Reishi Mushroom is your best bet if you have a fungal infection in either your lymph nodes or your lung(s). I was told this by a well-known mycologist when I thought I caught farmer's lung last year. I believe it was from touching my face/mouth after touching bad soil that turned anaerobic. It had lots of organic matter in it that turned the bennies into a bunch of nasties basically. Always wash your hands after handling soil... hope you get better soon man. Find Reishi Mushroom powder, and look into the Maitake Mushroom as well. Both benefit fungal infection of the lungs:

Is it possible you smoked mouldy buds?

It's good to come across someone who cares about their own health as well as the plants, when I saw 'lymph nodes' I was like huh plants have lymph nodes?

Don't avoid the specialist/biopsy! If it's some heavy news, better to hear it ASAP than put it off for a couple months and find out even heavier news. Lots of education in this thread - I was unfamiliar with farmer's lung.

The specific conditions, amounts, and other factors regarding the microbes can also make a big difference. From mycology work I have learned that some of the very beneficial soil molds in a cannabis grow can be a health hazard in a mushroom setup. Different atmosphere, different lighting, and no plant to work symbiotically with in the mushroom substrate. Trichoderma, or "tricky ricky" as it is often called it just one type of many many types of possible contaminants. In organic soils these things are actually encouraged, unlike a mushroom grow. Its foolish though to inhale dusts from any soils, regardless of what they are used for. Even the inert particles of a soil mix can cause very serious lung problems(silicosis, for example).

I'm considering going back to get the biopsy now, it still hasn't gone away and I haven't been able to stick to the medicine regime.

I believe it could be silicosis from not wearing a mask when mixing. I had DE in there..

Unless you've been breathing it for years or breathed in a huge amount at once, silicosis is unlikely.

Don't self diagnose, go get the biopsy. You haven't even kept
up with your meds?

Selfish move, mate but maybe no one in your life you care to stay healthy for?
