What Do You Use To Store Water/Nute Solutions?

J

Jeffa

I'm curious what the more experienced growers use to store their water/nute solutions in. Getting a little tedious doing it by the gallon now that the girls are flowering. Any advice is appreciated.

I 'm no longer a chem grower but I thought nute solutions needed to be made fresh each feed ... except for hydro systems with a res ...

fresh ...

cheers!

Thanks res, not sure I'm quite to the 93-gal level just yet, but good info just the same.

Any kind of plastic tub works well, but there are couple things you'll want to keep in mind before you start feeding from a reservoir.

1) The reservoir must be light-proof, to prevent algae growth. If the tub is translucent, a layer or two of duct tape around the outside should be more than enough.

2) The reservoir must have a lid, to slow down evaporation and prevent contamination.

3) Aeration: this is less of a concern if you're hand watering, but it'll still help to have something in the reservoir that aerates the water like an airstone & pump. At the very least, you'll still want to give the res a good stir before you pull any water out of it - organic fertilizers in particular have a habit of separating in still water.

4) Be prepared to measure ppm's and ph regularly. Ppm and ph will change in the reservoir for a variety of reasons, so be prepared to monitor the reservoir as often as you feed.

For 167$ there is a 165 quart ice chest on amazon.

165 quarts = 41.25 gallons.

For 140$ you can get a 95 Gallon drum with a lid...

Man shopping makes you wonder some times.

those 55gl blue or black plastic drums seem to be a standard but you never really gave the amount your trying to store.

although I recently started switching things over but what I used to do was bubble 2x5gl buckets of water at a time, add the nutes, wait for an hour then store that in 1gl water jugs and just store them away, but I have th espace for that.

using a 32gl garbage can as a main rez for my system now, so yeah the question could be better answere, imo, if you gave dimensions and how much water you either need or want to store up

store ro water in 5 gal buckets that are clean. and mix with nutes as needed and apply. thats how i used to do it with chems. now organic is the same minus the nute mixing. i still store ro in 5 gal pails and use as needed.

I picked up the one I posted you're referring to but not from that site. Just used that site to show what the drum looked like. Got it from a local drum/barrel supplier for 125.00 about 4-5 years ago. No way in hell would i have paid 740.00 for it.
Oh, the lid screws on too.

I use Rubbermaid 45 gallon brute trash cans with the roller casters on them. Put a float valve in and hook it right up to the ro feed. Roller casters on a cement floor are amazing. I have 3 brutes with them.

The larger brute trash cans

55 Gal Plastic Barrels that once contained juice (I've bought them as low as $15-20 before local Craigslisters started to charge more for them).

The best volume for the money I think I've found are those HomeDepot Toter Trash Cans. They hold tight.
96 Gallons for $90

or for a little more floor space. Tractor Supply
Rubbermaid Structual Foam tanks - 100/Gal for $80
150/Gal for $150
300/Gal for $250

On a side note: I purchased 3 of the General Hydroponics collapsible 66 Gal "Covert" reservoirs ($90/ea or so.) My immediate impression was not good.

I hoped they'd be my answer to large volume reservoirs that are easily taken into an op, but after setting 2 of them up next to one another in the basement I returned to find water around them. I didn't have time to fuck around so I just took them down before narrowing it down to which one (if not both) were leaking and went back to brutes.

I need to set them back up to see if they are worth a shit and perhaps I just got a bad one. Anyone have any experience?
