The last several days have been difficult to say the least. On Saturday August 2nd we lost Ty our 10 1/2 year old CoonHound. He was partially paralyzed in Jan of 2013..At that time the vet told us he more then likely would not make it another three months...well he gave us another whole year and a half with him...until July 28th, when we woke that morning I do as I always do I give the wife a kiss and say good morning then I get up and head to her side of the bed to tell my boy good morning, I always get down and give him some good lovin to start the day...well the morning of July 28th he was trembling...When I asked him if he wanted to go out for potty time he had a hard time getting up...once we made out the door to potty he lost his bladder. At that moment I knew in my heart we were gonna lose our boy. We got him to the vet within the hour. We did blood work and xrays to see what was going on. The xrays showed what we already knew. he had hip displayia, but there were no issues with his spine or so it appeared at the time...Ty's blood work came back with no issues....all looked good....in fact his spirit was up when we went to pick him up that afternoon.

For a couple of days he seemed to be making little strides and then on Friday the 1st of Aug he started sliding down hill and in a bad way...he couldn't squat to poop or pee with out severe pain, when he got through going potty he would just stand there and tremble and when he walked he was dragging his right foot (sign of nerve damage)..it was breaking our hearts to no end to see our boy hurt like this...I had him on some heavy doses of cannabis to help with the pain as he was panting heavily and having a hard time adjusting himself...once the cannabis settled in he would start to relax a little and get a little sleep.

Ty was a very solitude dog...he didn't allow the other dogs to get to close to him...only on his terms...however that night he allowed the other dogs to come over and lay near him and on his bed..his brother of 9ys was laying with him on his bed curled up together and his two 2ys old pit sisters were laying around him as well...It was like he knew he didn't have much time left and they were all gathered to say good bye...I too got down with him and just laid with him in my arms to comfort and support him...at one point he nuzzled into my neck and pulled my hand to him with his paw and started licking as if he was saying - daddy its ok, you've given me a wonderful life but now its time for me to go...I was hoping so much for a miracle when we woke in the morning, but it was not to be and it was time for my dear old friend to say good bye.

Ty, Momma and Daddy love you like a son because you were our son...and we know you are in a better place, RIP my dear old friend...I'll see you again one day.

So sorry to hear about that. I fear the day i go through the same thing. My dogs are like my kids. I think puppies are the only answer. If you are used to caring for a dog and have a suitable home, its a good thing. Im glad he had a long happy life with you guys.

what a beautiful post, I need to wipe my eyes. Your dog loved you, and you gave it an incredible life. Be proud of this, and remember the good times. I have lost dog's that are like children as well, it is one of the hardest things I will ever have to do in life. Be strong, comfort your loved ones with their loss, and forget the things in life we have no control over. RIP Ty, you left the world a better place than you came into it.

Sorry to hear about your dog...

We rescued a Coon-hound cross at xmas, great dog especially around my 4.5yr old son.

Keep your chin up...

Rip Ty. Damn bro this literally brought tears to my eyes, I have a dog that is near the end and it already hurts knowing she doesn't have much time left and she was an adoption. I also have another otherwise healthy dog but we almost lost her to pyometra 2 months ago, she is my baby since birth and I love her more than anything in the world, I was pouring tears when the doc was telling me if I had waited any longer she would have died...I love dogs but it is so heartbreaking to loose them, on one hand you say I won't own another and go through that again, but then loneliness kicks in and you get another because there is no love like mans best friend...

sorry for your pain and loss GrassLands, Ty was such a handsome boy. I'm glad to hear you have other dogs and a missus to lean on, to share your emotions with, the toughest task's passed now. I hope the pain passes quickly, Ty was always safest as he lived in your heart.

Remember the rainbow bridge....My son brings it up regularily how his first dog Daisy (GSD) is there with my wifes dog Jesse(Alaskan Malamute) and quite a few of mine over the years.

Honestly I prefer the company of my dogs over most people I meet..I think that is why their lives are so short....nothing but unconditional love for us...their family... I don't know too many people with that in their hearts 24/7....

I love God an all his creations, and God has a reason for everything. The only thing I would ask is may our loved ones live longer, including our pets. Horses can live to 30, sad I have never owned a bulldog that made it past 10.

I want to say thank you very much for all your kind words. They have made the loss of Ty a little bit easier, I still get the lump in the throat through out the day and at times the tears will flow...I know in time the heart will heal from the pain...

Thanks again everyone, we very much appreciate the love and support you have shown us in this trying time.

Love all y'all

Grass Lands ..My thoughts and condolences are echoed with every post in this thread. The whole thread is both sad.moving and beautiful, thanks you sharing this with us fellow dog lovers......my dog used to drag me back home from our daily walk, now I have to slow down on that last hill so he can keep up. He caught canine parvovirus when he was younger, I woke up at three in the morning to find him laying down surrounded by a huge pool of shitty blood, luckily he survived....the vet told me at the time that going by his condition, he had about one chance in eight of surviving and right there I blubbered out more tears than I did at most funerals...I'm going to be sad when he goes.
