Drying semi-wet bud in vac chamber/dessicator?

Have some primo bud that looks a little moist, not sure if I should return it or not ...so I pulled a vac on a small bel art dessi and tossed in a qp of dank nugs spread out, to dry.

I do NOT want to over dry this, just remove a little extra moisture.

Anyone with experience doing this? any recommendations on how long I can go, or how effective this is? I've never done it before, I figure it might take some time.. any down side to this?

I tried it once, didn't do much for me because I got impatient and just went and bought a dehydrator for use with quantity.

Although, I know a few people that swear by using a chamber. Make sure not to pull down past -25"HG, and throw some kind of desiccant in with it.. I just made an envelope out of a paper towel and filled it with rice.

RIght on thanks. I had it in for 2 hours seemed to remove a gram in water weight. pretty nice it made a big diff.

How come not to pull past 25? I definitely pulled a full vacuum

Will try some more with the rice dessicant. nice idea

I've heard it can rupture the trichome heads if left under full vac for too long, but I have never tried it and then looked at them under a microscope.

Which I will most likely do when I get some time for experimenting.. I always get worried about vaccing down a column on the closed loop for too long, for this reason.

thanks a million dude. I figure 25 is plenty. I wonder if when I feel it is dry enough, then save this for 2 days under a semi vac with no rice in there, I wonder if it would be more or less just a nice moisture-less fresh keep or if it would keep evaporating moisture and ultimately goodies.

I would advise pulling a bit less than a full vacuum in order to preserve all terpenes and cannabinoids.

Since the terpenes only exist in the trichome head I was wondering if there would be any impact at all other than what chronja mentioned about the trich heads exploding after a long period under full vac. who knows really I guess ?

I ended up just pulling to 20 or so and valving off with some rice in an envelope and lost about 2 grams of what I presume to be water weight. about 16 hrs total, only the first 1 were at a full vacuum and no rice/envelope.

Smells incredible and no wet smell or anything. Thanks HighstateToke for the help, I am quite familiar with the skunkpharm vac purging page however I thought intact trichomes vs extracted oleoresin might react differently under vacuum.

From what I understand the vacuum just allows the water to evaporate more readily and at a faster pace than at Atmospheric Pressure. I like this, and so far it seemed to work for me.
