More questions guys... I must say Im a bit lost here... I have read in this forum that they were quite slow to flower: well mine showed pistils after 8-9 days and one is already flowering quite well at day 20 of 12/12, the others are a bit behind but the flowers are already apearing on all of them. Do I have super fast phenos or is it related to nutes?

And then second question...
Are Malawi's sensible to nutrients? What are your experiences, what would you advice? I run the BioCanna line, actually in week 3 of flowering and it looks like they are already overferted. Dark green leaves and possibly burned tips, it might appear clearer in a couple of days, not sure though. Earlier this week I used Cannazym, with an EC of 0.8 for the water. Today I fed them with Bioboost but no Flores, and a small dose of PK 13/14 (0.2ml/l). EC of water is 0.8. Runoff is at EC 1.0. What am I doing wrong?

Hi vladimiroslav,

Malawi is a sativa of tropical origin, but the flowering time is moderate (10-14 weeks), especially considering that tropical landrace sativas usually need 4 months or more of flowering. There are also fast flowering expressions in Malawi line that can finish in 10 weeks or so.

About the feeding, Zanddar gave you a nice tip, it's good to start soft with the fertilizers and then increase if you feel the sativa is asking you for more. Each plant is different and some thin leaved malawis could be quite sensitive to Nitrogen (like was the case for tjo), but others can handle standard fertilizer doses very well like Zanddar has experienced.

How well do the male malawi traits pass over into future generations? I have a male that I got from my last pack that excelled above the rest in ways. I have quite a few landraces that I would like to pollinate with it. I am shooting for the vigor, branching, and general size of the plant to be passed to future generations. Are those things that are generally passed along with the malawi males?

Peace
GC

Hi growingcrazy,

Malawi is quite inbred landrace line, great genetics to breed with and to make crosses: its vigour, branching, high yield, high resin production and high potency are easily transmited in its hybrids.

I wasn't sure at first, but went thru my dates and my Malawi was in bloom 2-3 weeks straight from seed when I pollinated with Blue Santa pollen outside the unsealed room. She bloomed at 3-4 weeks so I do think this is Blue Malawi, what I wanted anyway. Time will tell. I still ran too hot, but very resinous besides and looks good despite all the seeds. Maybe some Malawi hash from those sticky seed pods or smoke 'em anyway. Finally some pics. Here she is at 16 weeks from seed and right before the darkroom for 5 days. peace... :tiphat: SR

Greetings Speed Racer,

Despite being pollinated and losing health at the end of flowering, your malawi has very resinous whitish ovaries.

Hopefully you can find great things in your cross. Best wishes!

is the malawi constant with a no ceiling type high?

Hi Mesosphere,

There are more clear and energetic malawi phenos without or with very little ceiling.
The killer malawi high is super powerful, dense and long lasting, very few people can overindulge it, just one joint is enough to blow your mind for 4-5 hours.

Beautiful malawi crazyfool* :)

She only at mid flowering and already showing lots of resin, looks like she has potential to produce a very nice yield. Thanks for share it!

Dubi, that sounds amazing! can you please post any photos of the 'killer' pheno if you have any to share?- I'd really appreciate it!

Hi all...got a few different 10 packs coming and going to run Malawi first....for a 4' x 4' x 7' tent w/ 1000 watt light, how many would you have in flower? I'm allowed 6. all organic in 5gal. buckets...no topping, just trim and train. greatly appreciate any more info. LB69

@littlebrother69- id say probably no more than 4. an upsize to 15gal buckets would be ideal too. somewhere in the range of 1-4 plants IMHO

Nice malawis.I had to pop few too.Two last ones ;)
Now I need to have some seeds or buy more ;).
I was wondering, now that I have pollen from banghi, how about crossing those two?

Hi all, another more question: everything is going great but one of the 3 malawi beans I popped was a purple one, and I dont know wtf is going on but she looks almost ready as Im only entering the 9th week of 12/12 only... I looked with a scope and theres quite a lot of exploded shriveled trics. Most of them are yellow or amber. No new pistils showing, just a couple left here and there. The 2 others look not that far behind, 2 weeks max to the end IMO.

11/13 under leds since the beginning, I fed the 2 first weeks with BioCanna vega&flores nutes, then from the 3rd week I fed only with Bioboost (usual doses) & PK 13/14 (0.2ml/liter, then 0.4 the week after, then 0.6, then 0.8 and nothing after that) and some Cal/Mg and Cannazym. Leaves are starting to yellow.

Put under 12/12 the 21.06, showed pistils the 29th, and ready (overdone?) now at 9 weeks?????????? Anyone experienced this? Or is it me who broke the trics while manipulating her? Most are cloudy, a couple of clear and lots of yellow shrivelled ones at the tops.
Should I cut it now? Is it already ripe or even overdone?

Sorry for the noob questions, each grow I run new strains as I explore Ace's catalog... I know Dubi already responded to me but I think he said 10 weeks, here it makes 7 weeks completed at most from pistils... 8 completed total.

that sounds like the same phenotype i had.
the purple malawi was MUCH faster then others..
column structure with a unique smell, small buds-not colas-
and ready after 8-9 weeks flower.
i like the smell and the taste ,but she is weak for my standards.
i hope that helps:tiphat:
the photo is shitty but take a look

show us some pics, its hard to tell by information only.

Imho something like a 11 week finisher(a fast malawi pheno) could of course be finished sooner when fed a High PK schedule and flowered with reduced on times(11/13, 10/14).
In that case(phenotype dependent) its not always desirable to reduce the on time. Maybe your Plants would have gone another 2 weeks with higher yield and better resins on 12/12.

An example against that,
my Thaihazemale didn't even start to flower @ 10/14 after several weeks and was finally discarded beeing too wild and somewhat unfertile.
My Malawi does not flower tight buds when on 12/12, she stretches to the sky like a thai. but 10/14 ; 10,5/13,5 ; 11/13 all works good.

maybe take your clones and try again on 12/12:tiphat:

you see its quite diverse. even in a single strains lineup.

sorry if i have confused you 11/13 is THE way to do malawi in general, its obviously not.

:tiphat:

@tjo: that sounds exactly like it except mine is not really columnar, very branchy but also has lots of tops and no real main cola. It reminded me a lot of Violeta. Compared to your picture, mine seems way more purple, inside the nugs there's even red tones. I sampled a top and its quite weak indeed, I was expecting the soaring high and was thinking it needs to be completely dead - I know a week or two can make the difference - to be cut. Now I know I can chop her without waiting too much. Cheers!

@waldgeist: unfortunately Im still having camera issues, thats why I didnt posted anything related to this grow, cant make updates with pics anymore. I will try to borrow someone elses but not sure it works on time. But to your advice I will try to run the future clones on 12/12, we'll see if there's any difference. Thanx for the information my friend, and you didnt confused me at all, I wanted to try that schedule to fasten the things! looks like I succeeded, we'll see if it was a good thing when I'll run her on 12/12 :tiphat:

Apart from my noob doubts I must say its a pleasure to grow. Awesome plants, thanx Dubi!!!

agree..not really columnar but very branchy with lots of tops!
the picture is terrible...the plant in the photo was more purple.
im almost sure that we talk about the same plant....
i tell you this,,,i had 4 malawis and only the purple one has a real smell...bountyfull complex smell that i can not describe well.

I agree tjo,my purple 1 was the only 1 that had a nice smell, mine was a more columnar with very little side branching and had a floral, coconut and licqourice smell

Thanks Ace crew for some very good smoke. Though my first was hit with Blue and not done perfect, the high now has become quit nice. Carrot and other notes I can't describe, but no paranoia or raciness and still up high. Getting better even still I'd guess. ALOT of finger and scissors hash. The Blue Malawi seeds are spotted and look very nice. Peace... :tiphat:SR
