Chelates for trace minerals?

Thanks Bro; I hope the book serves you well. And thanks for the heads-up on others here being hip to Ingham.

It's great when people read, you know? :)

I wouldn't chance bulk chemically chelated amendments and also it defeats the purpose of living organic soil.

Here we go with the LOS malarky. An educated published poster appears and he has to do battle with the dogma.

Hi Michael,

Great to have you join in and discuss soil here.

I have been following your ideal soil book and ratio`s for couple seasons, on a small scale, and have had great results so far.

Have you had much experience with a soil which is primarily composed of peat moss as a main soil component with your ideal ratios? or container style gardening?

Many growers utilize a peat moss and perlite mix as a base mix, and add amendments/minerals or compost to build a soil, what do you recommend to soil builders to complex the raw minerals into a peat dominant soil CEC?

You mentioned somewhere about problems of different soil labs and testing methods, my results have so far been very inaccurate compared to what my calculated amounts should be, leading me to take lab results not very seriously, especially when dealing with a custom built soil. I feel this may have to do with my peat based mix and "rich" levels of minerals.

Photosynthesis-

I will probably check out microbeman's forum, but let me state upfront: Microbes do not create minerals. If they are not in the soil, they will not be made available by microbes or anything else.

I'll add that there are ate least 1000 people blabbing about microbes for every one who knows the first thing about minerals.

One more? Elaine Ingham is a lying piece of shit.

They go hand, and hand.

You have already lost most of us with your attitude.

Enjoy the forum. I am sure there are plenty of people here that will ride your jock. :)

Biology and minerals do go hand in hsnd...no one denies that. On the other hand the truth and what people believe...they seem not to be connected at all. Pursue your truth and let us pursue ours and all will be what it is...this thread may not be for everyone...it would not be for Rodale for example

I believe in what works. And screw the faith based stuff.

So what works? Getting the P to equal K on a Mehlich 3 test. Having Mg at 10-20 percent of CEC. Potassium, actual, equal to K. This is not brain surgery.

Mr. Astera

I have a question that is a bit off topic, hope that is ok

Where does mulch fall into the perfect soil? Until lately, I have been using redwood, and fine redwood as mulch. It keeps the soil moist and breaks down into humus fairly fast. However, the other day somebody brought to my attention that all the extra broken down mulch will raise my carbon inputs. Do you consider this a problem? If so, how would you fix it?

Thanks

Love the name. If you have something that is working for you, all is good. Make sure you have enough Ca and all will be well.

Speak for yourself Photosynthesis, and don't speak for "most of us". Milky, the older I get the less patience I have for Mr. Rodale's blind ideological obsession. Better to be a D.P. Hopkins and examine the facts.

I am more the opposite the older I get. I make my choices others make theirs and we both live wiith the consequences. You sur do see a lot of ipm threads in the faith bases paradigm though

Educated poster? Or huckster selling books? Time will tell, but this thread is starting to smell.

He hasn't lost me, I'm soaking up as much as possible and I appreciate all the info Mike.

I've been running Organics for a few years now but I knew I wasn't reaching the full potential of the plants compared to when I used to run canna a & b. with Organics I could never get my buds and calyxes to swell up like they would using synthetics. No matter how much high p guano or fish bone meal I used things just weren't right. Since I've been adding some form of micronutrients I'm seeing them swell up like they should.

If people don't like this thread then don't read it. It's that simple. No haters allowed!

Other gardening forums have normal discussions between adults without it constantly being a battle of who is the Most Holy & Organic. If people have their beliefs that's fine, but there's no need to come in and proclaim "heresy!". I don't see Ebb&Flow or Coir growers wandering into Organics to tell us how we're doing it wrong. I don't have time for battling non-organic growers, let alone fighting some forum-based civil war for the One True Organic Way among all the organic growers. I hate to think how we seem from the point of view of anyone involved in horticulture/gardening looking into our world.

The OP has been put through the wringer, and because he's written a book you're calling him a huckster? Come on Scrappy, that hardly seems fair. It seems to me that you've taken the "everything in a bottle is snake oil" argument to a cynical extreme if writing a book is automatically suspect. His book has quite a few positive reviews and one angry one from someone who seems to have a personal vendetta. I'm not in anyone's camp - I'm just here with an open ear to listen to what Mr. Astera has to say.

One Love and Big Ups.

Not coming into your threads and saying this...but since you came here lets chat about plant teas...say comfrey. When you chuck it in water tou end up getting water soluble ions...since water is your solvent. The water soluble ions are the ones that are most mobile in the plant...K and N. A comfrey tea ain't much different than KNO3...that is the actual chemistry so please take your holier than thou stff back to the LOS thread where chemistry does not seem to apply. I will stay out of that thread...promise

Can the average person get these organic chemicals for growing? Like is KNO3 available. Will I get red flagged for wanting to grow better veggies and medicine?

Absolutely available. Farmers get it from supply stores, groworganic.com always has things like Potassium Sulfate and Boron and such. Their shipping is slow and expensive is my only complaint. You won't be red flagged for anything like this.
