Golden Tree Journal- Canna Boost Alternative

I am have been growing with Canna nutrients & additives for the past 6, maybe 7 years. I LOVE THE STUFF. ALL OF IT. Especially BOOST.

While it is "expensive", I feel that the results are worth the price. I have grown without Boost, and my flowers came out good, but with Boost, my flowers come out better. Hazylady did a nice thread some years ago pitting Boost versus molasses that sort of illustrates and documents the virtues of Boost.

I will go on record and clearly state I have no problem shelling out the $100 for the L, $390 for the 5L.

But at the same time I will also go on record and say I don't mind saving a dollar or two, or more! Cmon!

But the results better be the fucking same! Or better....
It doesn't make sense to me to save a few dollars and drop a point or two on the quality scale - quality always first and foremost.

I've been reading about different boost-like products, and it seems like there are a few alternatives for the inquiring mind. Some are mix and make yourself - I am not a chemist, nor do I play one on tv... so no "make you own" action for me. Give me bottles or give me death hahahahaha

Which brings me to Golden Tree. WTF is it? WTF does it do?
From speaking with some folks at GT, I am told it is for one, a Boost alternative, amongst other things....

But lets take some baby steps.

"Boost alternative? Really? Same results as Canna Boost? The same?" I asked. "Yes. Yes. And Yes. For less money. Really" was the reply.

So I figured I'd try it out.

This thread is going to be a documentation of a flower cycle, using Golden Tree as a direct replacement of Canna Boost in my nutrient program. The plants will be grown in straight promix, under the Maui sun. The plants being grown are Chem D, Dog, Skunkdawg, and Purple Urkle x Blue Dream.

I normally begin adding Boost at 3ml/G then, raising 1ml/G per week, until week6, when I begin to start backing it down 1ml/G... I like to think of it as how one would cycle on and off of steroids hahaha.

on paper, my Boost usage looks like this
week 3/day 22 = 3ml/G
week 4/day 29 = 4ml/G
week 5/day 36 = 5ml/G
week 6/day 43 = 4ml/G
week 7/day 50 = 3ml/G

I will be applying the Golden Tree at label recommended dosage - 5ml/G in place of Boost.

I have taken few pictures to start - more will be following suit.
I am going to try to refrain from too much commentary, and wait to share my opinion/s after things are "tagged and released" hahaha... so it should be more of a picture show. Ill probably try to do some dialog.... hopefully not too much.

I am looking forward to seeing how things play out.

It smells uhhhh fermented? hahahaha. It smells like there is a lot of stuff in there. Its got some thickness to it - notice it sticks to the walls of the cup.

i don't know whats in it exactly, but it smells like a combination of rhizotonic, cannazym, and boost. plus fish oil, shoyu, teriyaki, and oyster sauce. its kind of like all the bottles of stuff in my gramma's kitchen she would use to cook filipino food. they say it is organic. maybe there is some molasses in there, too.

I have lots of fun burning money. if it makes me happy ill do it. if it makes me money ill do it even more. hahahaha good tip man!

i may try the mb stuff later on. i am put off by additional steps (mixing it myself), but thats part of why its so inexpensive, too. its probably not that hard to do. maybe hahaha

now all that is out of the way, we can focus the rest of this post on the plants on their sixth week (days 36-42). plants are starting to bud up nicely. this is the part of the grow i was hoping to hurry up and get too.... flowers forming stacking doing their thang!

"What am I seeing so far?"
uhhhhhhh... I had to think about that question for a little bit. Because I am not seeing anything "bad" or "good", just a continuation of what I am used to seeing at this point. Everything is looking just like it should and how I am accustomed to seeing the varieties at this stage.

I cannot jump for joy, nor pound sand in disgust.... things so far are the same as they ever were.

"what does that mean?" I had to ask myself that.
well, nothing. yet. Except that so far, its acting as a Boost replacement without any hiccups yet.

all my posted pics are of plants fed canna boost, as I have been using religiously since 2007

the plants playing the part/s of guinea pigs for me are 5x chemD, a Dog, a Skunkdawg, and a Blue Dream/Urkle. its my first run with the bd/u, and I am still just getting to know the Dog. but the chemD and Skunkdawg... I know this girls inside and out. I like to think I do anyways...

this is what I expect my chemDs to be like at the end of the day....

i like to think the reason is first and foremost the hand. but it is more likely Canna has been doing the heavy lifting (as I have basically been using their products, but at 50%-75% of the suggested amounts). I have used SVA/B & SBA/B, Triflex, House & Garden, Grow Big/Tiger Bloom, and Canna, and the best results I have gotten have been achieved with a blend of Botanicare supplements (Cal/Mag & original Sweet) with Canna.

this is not a true side by side test. I did not want to take the extra time to split up the plants and do extra work (separate reservoirs) for feeding. Maybe over winter I will have more time/less guests and maybe feel inclined to do a side by side. i do have a row of plants growing across from these that are on the "original" recipe, but they are not the same clones, nor are they on the same schedule, either. the purpose/plan was to try to "sneak" Golden Tree into the mix in place of Boost, and see if I could tell a difference as the grow progressed.

we are on day 53 now.
we have endured a nasty storm (iselle) resulting in a busted fence exposing the cage to the neighborhood, an attack of spider mites and the burn resulting from overzealous use of pyrethrin. FUCK!!!!!!!!
And the Ds are still rocking!

My friend from down the road comes by. He's been watching me grow the Chem D here for a few years now. He's pretty particular...
He tells me "BRAH!!!! Hardest D nugs, ever".
I hadn't really noticed, as I hand't given them a good ole squeeze. But after doing so, I had to concur with bradda.... because they are rock hard. And they still have another almost 2 weeks to go. God/Allah/Flying Spaghetti Monster bless the summer sunshine.
the buds are the size of a 12oz can. And dense.
Good ole Chemdog D. Looks like we are par for the course at this stage.

So far, I cannot tell a difference between using Boost and Golden Tree. We haven't taken the smoke test yet, but we are getting closer. I have to add that I have started another set of plants (3 Valley OG & 4 Skunkdawg) in bloom (day 3), and have been/will be giving them Golden Tree in place of Boost, Rhizo, and Cannazym thru ought their bloom cycle.

AFOM (similar grow as me - premix, canna coco base nutes & additives w a sprinkle of botanicare) has started using Golden Tree in veg in place of Rhizo & Cannazym and I am liking what I am seeing over there. I am probably gonna start trying the GT during veg soon....


Here's some long long loooooooong over due Chem D shots from this afternoon, day 53.

The plants are flushing now, and will continue to for another 10-14 days... Should be able to get pics more pics tonight, uploaded and posted, too.

The daylight shots under the tarp aren't the best, but I am over waiting to try to get some snaps at night for folks to see. However, night shots are coming.... I hope they will be prettier. They will be whatever they will be hahaha

But I don't have house guests!!! So more pics are coming....

not the most ideal conditions for growing
but we did it anyways!!!
could not let go to day 70 due to weather and didn't want to lose anything to bud rot!
so they came down at 60

Things have been hung up for almost a week now.
The trim crew goes to work Friday... but the early returns on the smoke samples have been, to me, same as it ever was.
SAME AS IT EVER WAS.

The crew will add their bronze to the bucket soon, and their input is invaluable as outside assessment is always welcomed. Especially from trusted friends.

ill be honest though....

As an outside grower (its not really a greenhouse... I wish...) there are variables that affect my crops beyond my control - like what God wants to do with the weather, what the neighbors want to let infest their plants, etc. - and not allow me pure unadulterated repeating ideal grow conditions. SUCKS TO BE ME. hahahaha. So I play the hand that gets dealt best I can each time.

I tried to get a shot of the Golden Tree grown ChemD that could be relatable to the Canna grown pics I have.

I will say its pretty obvious the Canna grown D pic looks more "photogenic" than the Golden Tree D. BUT IT SHOULD - it didn't have to go thru a dragging mite war, one hurricane and a bunch of shitty days either... so I am not taking points away from Golden Tree, or awarding them to Canna, either, based on that.

What I am wondering is, with all the bullshit (weather & bugs) thrown at it these last few months, why is the Golden Tree grown D denser, fatter, and more resinous than I can recall it being? The smell is the same - both depth and projection of aroma. The resin seems a bit more oily/greasy than what I typically get from my D. And its really fuckin dense!

So what gives? Not sure yet. I mean, do I just blame the summertime sun for the extra density and resin attributes, and just go back to the way things used to be? I don't think so... as changes were made to what the plants were fed. Changes which were seemingly, seamless!

Thus far, what Golden Tree has said it can do (simply match Canna Boost for less $$$) is, in my opinion, legit. LEGIT.
I am confident in the product's performance.
I would not hesitate to reccommend Golden Tree as a flowering additive to someone who wants to grow quality flowers.
Says the guy who loves to smoke said quality flowers.

So... lets do it again! A few more times, even! And let's see what else it can do!

I have ordered another 1/2G of Golden Tree and am going to continue using it (not side by siding) in flower, as well as begin using it on plants in veg, too. Golden Tree tells me their product is an all-in-one additive capable of rendering separate additives (like Rhizotonic and Cannazym) unnecessary.

I am working on a fresh "Greyskull Feed Program" file that I will post up to demonstrate how I am incorporating Golden Tree. Hopefully it doesn't take a week for me to get back online an post....

Glad to hear you liked the results. Do you have anything over the top of your grow like plastic sheeting or something to help with the weather?
