Interesting

with the compost added can you still feed everyday like straight coco ? or do you treat it like a soil/compost grow ?
i'm gonna have to keep an eye on this one Deo :)

I was wondering the same thing.

Hey fellas!.. I still plan on treating it like straight coco.. only thing I might have to change is pH'ing my nutrient solution to 6.0-6.2.. I'm feeding low EC levels as it is(1.0-1.2) so it shouldn't be a problem as far as daily feeding goes.. I've used the purple cow activated compost in my soil-less mixes before with great success.. my mix is still mostly coco(60-70%).

I'm gonna test the water retention and drainage qualities of the mix later today before use and add more coco and/or perlite if needed but I'm pretty happy with how the consistency already is.. I like the plant benefits from adding activated compost and the control that coco offers so why not mix them together and cut with perlite? I couldn't think of a reason not to when mixed correctly and for $8 a bag it wasn't much on the wallet.. this is purely experimental atm and might need adjustment but I believe it's gonna work well and provide me with a beneficial diverse micro climate at root level and support plant health through flower.. I'll keep you guys updated if your interested :D

I also have some veg+bloom dirty and +size on the way as I'm just about out of reg. v+b.. I spoke to chris from hydroponic research a few days ago and after a 30 min phone conversation(very helpful guy) he gave me free shipping on my order and also threw in samples of +life and their hard/tap v+b formula that he recommended I mix together with the dirty v+b(4 grams dirty +1 gram tap/hard per gal of water) to bring the pH down of my tap to within range.. now all I'm missing is a RO system and possibly a co2 injection kit and my setup will be complete lol :D

Here's a picture of the label/contents and NPK of compost.. tell me what you guys think :

Deoxy,

Very nice plants you have going there.

I recently switched to coco and am very interested in your semi-organic experiment with it.

I'll be following along :tiphat:

Flower Room Build Out Update

Flower Room Build Out Update

Finally had some time yesterday to get my flower room build out done.. for someone with zero construction experience and for $15 in materials, I think it turned out nice n sturdy.. I only have to line the walls with panda film and create the room divider w/ it, and throw down some clear tarp on the ground which will be done tonight to complete the process.

Here's a few pix of what it came out like.. not the cleanest setup around here but I'm happy with it.. zero damage to surrounding walls/floor.. comes out to approx. 7x7 sqft once the room divider is up.. Kinda pissed I couldn't setup my second adjust-a-wing yet as I need to get a lamp cable adapter for it from the net.

I also checked the mail today and this was in my mailbox :D : 1lb v+b dirty, 1lb +size, 100g +life

Thanks bug!.. Lol I know you would think it would.. I've used purple cow compost in my previous soil less mixes and it worked out well.. I like it.

.. on a side note I finished putting up the panda film on the walls and plastic tarp on the ground.. all I have left to do is create the room divider and door :dance013:.. not too ghetto fabulous.. should hopefully hold up for a while.

Plants are healthy and getting big.. they are loving the extra space and light.. I have both lights dimmed down to 400w until flip to save on power and heat.. getting ready to transplant into final containers and top the rest of em to size later today.

Hey DeoXy,

Those plants have ended up being quite tall and stretchy. More so than mine anyway. Do you have any flexibility with height. Looks to me that they are going to grow straight through the roof when it comes to flowering time. I think if I was in your position I'd consider bending them over so your light doesn't have to penetrate as far to reach the bud sites and they are not as tall and growing through the ceiling.

I'm sure you know what you are doing however. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing what happens next :)

Hey pumpkin!.. your deff. right about them stretching tall.. they were cramped in my veg tent for a too long which didn't help.. and on top of that due to life constraints I wasn't able to get my flowering space finished until recently which has prolonged veg time considerably.. I am gonna top them all and tie branches down to help with stretch.. they deff. got away from me but I should still be able to manage to keep 'em all under the lights.. The next round with the cuttings will have a shorter veg time. :ying:

Shitty week dealing with plant problems - RA's

Shitty week dealing with plant problems - RA's

Sorry for the lack of updates.. I just spent the last 10 days since transplanting dealing with a major problem I discovered while up potting.. fucking bastard ass root aphids :moon:.. second grow in a row I've been forced to deal with these damn things.. FML!

I correctly identified them with my jewelers loupe crawling around the roots and bottoms of pots(micro sized white/translucent).. same plant symptoms happened as the last time.. fast progression of phantom mag deficiency w/ yellowing and odd spotting within the first 2 weeks of introducing the plants to intense HPS lighting.. coming from a prior healthy state.

I gave them a imid soak a week ago and they have since started growing good again.. the new growth is green and healthy..haven't seen a single crawler or flier either.. I was hoping not to have to use any kind of pesticide but I can't lose this round, as I have too much time and money invested already.. The good news is I have a whole tray of cuttings rooted and ready just in case.. I think I caught it early enough this time so they should all pull thru just fine, 6 out of the 13 were affected the worse, the other 7 didn't skip a beat.

- On a side note they are loving the coco/compost/perlite medium.. roots are bursting out the bottoms of the pots which is a good to see.. they also seem to be liking the v+b dirty and +life so far.. gotta love simplified things that just work w/o fuss :D.. I'll be posting up a proper update w/ pix by the weekend before flip.. Giving them some recovery time and keeping the stress to a minimum ATM.

Thats why i got away from any type of bagged soils & am using straight coco ...... no RA's sense !!! good luck brutha in getting rid of them destructive little bastards !!!

if theres any way you can bake your bagged soil first ..... it would kill them off right from the start . it only has to be in the oven for a short time at 120 degrees to kill them .

Thanks for the tip brutha dan!.. I wish I knew where they came from.. it might be from the window as I discovered a small hole in the screen.. they could also of came in with the bags of canna coco.. either way it sucks to have to deal with.. the affected plants are doing a lot better which is good.. would you recommend that same oven method for bagged coco? I have been keeping the room as clean I as I can.. I plan on setting off a dr. doom fogger during lights out a little later to kill any fliers still hiding.

I ended up binning one of the 6(twisted lemon OG) plants that was affected by the RA's the worse.. it looks like it will take a while to recover and grow a healthier root mass.. I don't want to waste more time letting it recover as it's far behind the rest in development and I'm ready to flip.. I got a few cuttings to try again with it.. + the 12 remaining plants are enough to pack under the two 600w and fill the space well .. they are nice and bushy after being topped.

Here's a few random plant pix I snapped earlier after watering in no particular order .. let me know what you guys think :

i seriously doubt they came from the canna coco , but yeah the oven trick will work with that too .
RA's are the main reason i got away from soils & started in coco . have only ever used canna bagged or Mother Earths bagged & never had any RA's sense i started using them .
the main thing about buying bagged anything ...... is if its setting outside on a pallet like the big box stores ..... your guarenteed to get bugs !!! my guy keeps his bagged stuff in the store & wrapped in the plastic that the pallet came wrapped in . its a good practice that alot of shops should adhere to if they care at all about they're customers .

Plant & root shots all look great brutha !!! keep up the good work :)

Is that coco or Rapid Rooter type medium in your cloner tray mate?? :chin:
I really like the look of your cloner, so it's just a seedling tray sitting over the top of a deeper container?? Is the seedling tray a hard plastic or a softer plastic?? I have heaps of the soft plastic ones lying around from the vege garden and I can get a bottom container exactly the same as yours from the pet store. So do you have any sort of bubblers in the bottom in the water?? I can't see any in the photo :chin:
Regards Mate

Yea I have no idea how this shop treats their coco once they take delivery of it.. its sitting inside on the retail floor but it could be sitting in a dirty warehouse or outside for a period of time prior to being brought in.. gonna try a different shop next time and possibly the oven method and see if it helps.. thanks again brutha dan!

Hey brutha b00m!.. my cloning setup is very simplistic and cheap @ $5 for tray setup and $10 for RR's.. it consists of seedling tray w/ insert and humidi dome filled with rapid rooters.. only thing I use additionally in the winter is a heat mat.. This method has worked the best for me.. the trick I have learned for the highest success rate is maintaining the correct air/water ratio in the plugs for the first 7-10 days is key.. keeping a small amount of water at the bottom and allowing to dry some in between but not all the way has given me 90% rooting in under 10 days.. I have thought about experimenting with a air stone on the bottom tray but I believe the amount of water you would have to fill to would keep the plugs too soaked and hinder rooting and possibly stem rot.

:thank you: Brother Deo :thank you:
So you have a humidity dome over the top as well huh?? I wouldn't think that would be necessary with the water in the bottom container but what would I know, it's your setup and it obviously works and works well :good:
Cheers for the heads up my friend :gday:
Looking forward to your next update mate
