I would go for the dimmable 1000W. It's definately better value for your money and gives you more options.

More options as in the adjustable output? I've just discovered that the gavita system can't be upgraded to an aftermarket reflector unless you buy the ballast as a more expensive stand alone unit.

@DGS, do your ballasts work at 208v? I see it shown on the Utah study.

Gavita says no for theirs, yet it is also listed at 208v input.

OK ive been running 4 Gavitas and 4 ePaps side by side. I would personally say that thusfar I prefer the ePaps.

The build quality alone is much higher. Ive had knobs just start falling off the gavitas!

I keep them 48" off the canopy and get a solid 4x6 coverage out of them. Plants are happy.

Aside from build quality, can you elaborate more on why you prefer the ePaps?

I'll be at the booth of Dutch Garden Supplies International at the Indoor Gardening Expo in San Francisco.
We'll also be showing the new Double dPapillon.

So if you have any questions, or just want to greet, or see new products, come by on July 26-27.

Is that available and do you have a link or pic? We were about to order 12 more ePaps for a new room and might wait if those are available

I don't have an ePaps (yet), but I do have 2 gavitas. Outside of build quality, I think it largely depends on what your goal is. I like the gavita because I can direct light in a focus point, but I also want an ePaps in the middle to throw light down and out to the sides. But that doesn't mean that some smart planning can't take advantage of light placement and reap a nice foot print with light coming from multiple angles and don't forget their reflector degrades slower and is cheaper than gavitas saving $$$. Either way, just buy one, these things are worth every penny.

They seem to have a less directional spread. To be honest the build quality is the biggest part though.

I had a knob come shipped to me busted. They don't put enough protection in their box IMO. Curious to get my hands on a ePaps now.

The Double dPapillon is based on CMH-technology and not on HPS-technology as the ePapillon. The use of the fixture is also very different.
The daylight lamps which are used in the Double dPapillon have a complete spectrum instead of the big peaks in red and blue which HPS has.

In general the Double dPapillon can be used for the vegetative stage or for adding extra blue light in the flowering stage.

The Double dPapillon can completely replace the metal halide systems. It's much more efficient and the spectrum is better because it's broader. The plant will be much stronger when vegged under CMH.

In rooms without daylight the tests show that when about 1 Double dPapillon to 4 HPS fixtures are used the crop is of better quality. This is just because of the extra blue which is added in the light spectrum.

I'll see you at the show but if you're still around here, DGS...

Does the 1000w DE put out about 10% more energy per watt than the CMH? What are we looking at as far as a umol/s comparison between the 1000w ePap, the dPap, and the double dPap?

I've currenty got 6 epap 1000w's in my space. The 1st week of flowering was a nightmare... everything burned! :hotbounce: Now everything is immaculate. Growth rates are extremely fast, stronger, sturdier stems, and the light spread is unbeatable. Any future rooms I will be equipping with these fixtures. I'm funning them in a sealed room that's 12x12 and a 36,000 BTU mini-split A/c. I'll be starting a thread soon on these fixtures. Thanks DGS, have a great day! SL

Hey vStagger,
How taxed is your 36,000btu AC? I hear these systems are rated at 4,000btu per fixture. Does that seem right to you?
