Shatter and Wax, the differences and how-to's?

For our purging we've found that in the water bath keeping the water temps below 115F max, and removing the BHO from the bath while it is around 80-90F (after the bubbling slows down a LOT) then placing it in the oven at 100F until the bubbling all stops THEN hitting the vac, seems to work fairly well and produce good results.

i soaked a grinder in a ethanol solution.. and it fucking yielded over 4 grams of oil.. after days on the purge 115 at -29.5 hg i can still smell the ethanol ..

and i don't wana start winterizing this 30 gram patty of wax.. without figuring out the purge FIRST..
All evaporation happens at the surface. You will need to spread it as thin as possible in order to fully purge it.

i've found that starting a low temperature/vacuum to allow the solution evaporate slowly, while gradually increasing the temperature/vacuum works best. i place my evaporating dish into the desiccator while it's still really cold (<10 °F) pull a low vacuum (<-15 inHg). i start adding heat (+5 °C increments) after the solution has reduced considerably, so temperatures are within 35-45 °C by the time there is less solvent than extract.

i try and retain clarity and as much viscosity (without too much heat) as possible throughout the extract process. increasing heat at rate gradual enough to ensure the reaction never goes past a gentle boil, but rapid enough to ensure the extract retains the viscosity required for an efficient purge.

Are you using a cold trap? Or changing your vacuum pump oil all the time?

i bought a Corning vacuum trap and an Isotherm dewar vacuum flask. just keep an eye out on eBay for two that have compatible dimensions.

Now you have me really intrigued! Any chance you could snap a pic of your setup?!

Understood otherwise, although this sounds very interesting!

Brilliant.

So just a glass trap in a dewar of liquid nitrogen is all it takes?

Or... I guess this could be for dry ice?

well i use calcium chloride brine and dry ice for my cooling bath. LN would freeze the butane so it would be pretty inconvenient, i also use the butane directly after distilling.

you can also use a double-wall ss vacuum flask. there is one just large enough to accommodate a moderate to larger sized vacuum trap http://goo.gl/ZZYren. i actually used that prior to buying the Isotherm dewar i have now.

where can someone buy lab-grade anhydrous 200 proof alcohol in real life? or something similar?

KleenXtract.com

Interesting link, however I'd like a place that sells the actual alcohol without calling it something like "kleenxtract."

Actually, by googling that phrase i found a few places.

Does "denatured" matter? F it, I'll just get some everclear. Does anybody have facts if ISO alcohol is any different than using pure alcohol?

$37

Kleen Xtract would be my choice if I needed some high proof ethanol at this time, and they ship to all fifty states.

Or, http://organicalcohol.com/store/

Saaaayyyyyy WHAT! Just add dry ice and go?!

Might have to test one of these things in the near future

Would that work without a coil?

I want one too, but also a little skeptical.

Would packing the larger chamber(the one w/o the dry ice) with something to increase the surface area help? Steel wool or something?
