A Taste of Africa from Malawi

Hi guys, I need your knowledge: I popped 6 Malawi regular beans, 3 are females wich showed pistils less than 10 days being under 12/12! One of them is stretching like hell, very branchy and vigorous while the other 2 seem more normal. I was about to kill her thinking it was a male because there was no way a plant that strong and that fast being that tall is a female. Boy I was wrong... anyone has any ideas of wich pheno it might be?

High. I too have a question. I am growing my first Malawi fem. She is at 15 weeks today, 12/12 from seed and started blooming at maybe 3 weeks, so 12 weeks bloom. She is covered in frost, one very large top mostly, 2-3 feet tall and is a seeded mom. I don't think she hermied and hermies never seeded the whole plant from my experience. I hit a THai hybrid with Blue Santa pollen about the time the Malawi was first put in. I am wondering if the pollen could have pollinated such a young plant and/or pollen last in the room that long I don't know. Glad to have lots of seeds and sure to be great. Smells woody, nutty like and not what you would expect though fits some descriptions here. I do hope she is a Blue Malawi, but only time will tell. Chopped a small bottom branch and drying now to see if the seeds are done enough. The trichs are all cloudy now and looks to be done. Maybe 1-2 more weeks. Can't wait to sample. peace... :tiphat: SR

Hi vladimiroslav,

Sounds like the tall, vigorous outdoor sativa malawi pheno that still can be found in the line, it can easily double in size her sisters with the same time of life. It can be found in the line in a rate of 10-20%. Good for outdoor growing if you need super vigorous plants that reach big size quickly, maybe not the best expression for indoor growing unless you top it since the start of stretching.

Hi Speed Racer,

I'm glad to know your malawi is maturing with strong resin production, the woody nutty smell is very common in the killer malawi expression.

If after inspection, you haven't seen any male flower in your malawi (quite rare to happen with this line) then the seeds in your malawi come most probably from your previous pollination inside the room. Pollen can easily lasts a few weeks in the room and still be fertile to pollinate. It's good to clean the room with water (walls, fans, equipment etc ...) to avoid undesired pollinations in the next cycles.

This is the last clone I showed,a few weeks into flower now.

You will find some thin leafed stretchy or more bushy plants.
Potency was good or great in most I tryed, including my f2.
Nice strain to play with.No deformities, very vigorous and no herms.

Good Luck to all and thx Ace.:tiphat:

More questions guys... I must say Im a bit lost here... I have read in this forum that they were quite slow to flower: well mine showed pistils after 8-9 days and one is already flowering quite well at day 20 of 12/12, the others are a bit behind but the flowers are already apearing on all of them. Do I have super fast phenos or is it related to nutes?

And then second question...
Are Malawi's sensible to nutrients? What are your experiences, what would you advice? I run the BioCanna line, actually in week 3 of flowering and it looks like they are already overferted. Dark green leaves and possibly burned tips, it might appear clearer in a couple of days, not sure though. Earlier this week I used Cannazym, with an EC of 0.8 for the water. Today I fed them with Bioboost but no Flores, and a small dose of PK 13/14 (0.2ml/l). EC of water is 0.8. Runoff is at EC 1.0. What am I doing wrong?

This is the best part about doing seed.
Sometimes you get what others would love to have.
Sometimes you get what no one wants.

Mine flowered at 3 weeks or more from seed.
Clones flower faster around 2 weeks.

I only use organics and I back off if I encounter a sensitive plant.
I have seen a more sensitive Malawi, but not many.
Best to start with less and let the plant show you it wants more, not the reverse.

My Malawi feeds heavy and I have not seen much burn from my food.
Light leaf tip burn is normal in my plants and I use that as an indicator of enough food.
They like to bulk up near the last few weeks. Two weeks on water is good.

i finished my malawis in a hydro RDWC sustem only with 0,2-0,4 ec. malawi was the most light feeder strain i ve ever had.

Thank you very much Zanddar and tjo... advices really appreciated. I'lll try to upload pics today if the camera agrees. My tapwater has an horrible 0.6 EC to start with, so now Im collecting rainwater for the girls. Ace seeds gems require growers with at least a little experience and I lack it: starting with Purple Haze and following with Malawi might have been a little presomptuous from me, but thanx to you all guys I'm slowly on the right path.

Na zdorovie!

tjo's Malawi grow is the most impressive I've seen. I highly recommend the grow-link in his signature for how to do Malawi right. I think for a grow other than DWC, it might need a bit stronger nute concentration, but tjo's grow is a clinic in how to grow Ace Malawi in DWC right.

How well do the male malawi traits pass over into future generations? I have a male that I got from my last pack that excelled above the rest in ways. I have quite a few landraces that I would like to pollinate with it. I am shooting for the vigor, branching, and general size of the plant to be passed to future generations. Are those things that are generally passed along with the malawi males?

Peace

I wasn't sure at first, but went thru my dates and my Malawi was in bloom 2-3 weeks straight from seed when I pollinated with Blue Santa pollen outside the unsealed room. She bloomed at 3-4 weeks so I do think this is Blue Malawi, what I wanted anyway. Time will tell. I still ran too hot, but very resinous besides and looks good despite all the seeds. Maybe some Malawi hash from those sticky seed pods or smoke 'em anyway. Finally some pics. Here she is at 16 weeks from seed and right before the darkroom for 5 days. peace... :tiphat: SR

Looks nice and sticky Speed Racer.
Should get some nice seeds from that.

My f2 seed produced some nice plants. If you have a nice Malawi male, use him.
I look for nice Panama and Malawi males to use on my best females.

Thanx and think will be good seeds/smoke with Malawi mom definitely. I did try a Panama fem one seed only sadly I got, but was red pheno and even though didn't do perfect was very good high and need to get more someday. Will try to post a pic of a sibling before too long hopefully. peace... :tiphat: SR

The more you smoke, the higher you get.Stops me in my tracks every time.
People tell me it's too strong.I function on it well, but sometimes too stoned to go anywhere.
