whats the smallest space someone is running a 400 in

my space is real limited ..so much so my 600s cant be used..i do however got a 400 hps I would like to toss a cmh bulb in this winter when its cool...I got one space in a cabinet 20 inches wide,26 inches long and 45 1/2 tall...it was a clothes closet type setup with a installed metal hanger for clothes...I would have to run bulb so its parallel with the 26 inch long so I can cut hole an vent it.... the local weed here is just ok and I need to restock this winter for sure...my floro setup is such a joke and don't provide anywhere enough...maybe I will just throw away my bed an sleep on couch..lol then I could rock atleast a few 600s....

I used to flower in a 2 x 2 that was 4 ft tall using a 400w - however, the bulb and hood were on the outside of that space. The hood was 22" square, and basically made the top of the cab...so I had about 3 ft of space in which I could actually allow for vertical growth, given container height and distance from the bulb.

I loved that little set up. Did very well with it - But I don't think I'd use a 400w in anything smaller...

As long as you can cool the space I don't see the problem in running a 400 in there, use four 8" pots and flip in when they're small

I kept a tiny cool tube and the 400 just in case for all these years .....so hood aint issue and airflow wont be either as I got atleast 3 400+ fans LOL..... even with a speed control might be too much....maybe computer fans...just curious as I am gonna do it anyhow.... duct would be only tiny and hidden into my cabinets..i will just leave cabinet door open at end ....straight run....plant size shouldn't be issue as low stretch strains for now....still got sour b and a few of my own crosses

Try it and see, but is there climate control? Surely an AC would
help keep temps low enough to get good little bushes, no?

400's not that hot, enclosed separate vent, is what your thinking?

might go vertical in this space...set a carbon filter on the bottom as base, then some ducting to give room for up and down adjustment, then the 400w inside the cool tube, and ducting exiting the grow.

That solves smells, heat, and will tone the cfm of the fan down a bit as it has to pull through the filter, etc.

Put some dark room louvers in place and use them as passive air intake...

Just a thought...

I will be doing it in winter so I might be ok temp wise,,,its up to 110 here now and 115 a reality lol....I got a few ideas on a setup...time to find my holesaw......I haven't been impressed with my verticle previous attempts ....and the strains I will first run don't stretch barely..i would like to run a sog perpetual hopefully....

Check out the 315w CDM stuff. You can sometimes find the ballasts on eBay at a fraction of retail, and I can guarantee that the 315 will kick the shit out of a 400 while making less heat. They are the latest and most improved version of the CMH family.

Here is a current deal on eBay. If the fixture isn't adaptable to what you want, you can always use the ballast, socket, and lamp in something else. They are 240v only, though.

Retro grows nice healthy plants. i have no complaints with my last grow.

Min space for 400w CDM is 2x4x6 imo, need good ventilation, a/c preferred.
