Wtf nbc? Water-Guzzling Pot Plants Draining Drought-Wracked California

One thing that should worry everyone in the event of a drought is privatization of water rights by mega corporations like Nestle aka Poland Springs that buy up land then claim rights over any underground water near by, basically reserving the right to suck up the entire water supply for entire towns. It has happened in Maine and I know it has happened in other places as well.

Maybe you didn't read the story?

The story says the reason world oceans hasn't risen is because it's connected to a larger body of water that connects 700km under the earths surface.

Where Al Gore's dumb ass comes in is he said 7 years ago, that in 7 years the worlds oceans would rise and major city's would be under water.

That clear things up for you?

lol, water doesn't stay liquid at 1000+ temperatures. They found liquid water. lol, your funny.

Sigh.

I'm trying to be nice, but you seem intent on making that difficult.

When using science as the basis for a political hatchet job, you need to get the science right, otherwise you play the fool pretending to have a hatchet.

In that, you fail.

Your article points out that water exists in ringwoodite, a component of the earth's mantle. Wikipedia expands on that, pointing out that the only known sample of terrestrial origin comes from a deep diamond found in Brazil-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringwoodite

Wikipedia also offers information abut the earth's mantle, as well-

In the mantle, temperatures range between 500 to 900 °C (932 to 1,652 °F) at the upper boundary with the crust; to over 4,000 °C (7,230 °F) at the boundary with the core.[20] Although the higher temperatures far exceed the melting points of the mantle rocks at the surface (about 1200 °C for representative peridotite), the mantle is almost exclusively solid.[20] The enormous lithostatic pressure exerted on the mantle prevents melting, because the temperature at which melting begins (the solidus) increases with pressure.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mantle_(geology)#Temperature

Indirectly, that also explains how water doesn't boil to steam at such high temperatures- it's because of the extreme pressure that goes along with it, the same reason that the rock doesn't melt.

Which brings us back around to my original point- that water locked up in the earth's mantle is not an exploitable resource & therefore immaterial to the discussion of drought at hand.

Hack away at Al Gore, Obama, Hillary & whoever all you want. You need to realize that basing such attacks on identifiable falsehoods deducts points from your score, currently putting you into negative numbers.

Just stick with Benghazi & similar issues having enough unknowns to let imaginations run wild trying to fill in the blanks.

So your saying the worlds oceans are rising and city's like New York are under water huh? Crazy how left you are that you can't even admit the obvious. As to why the oceans haven't changed according to the article, "Jacobson suggests that this layer might act like a buffer for the world’s oceans and may explain why they have stayed the same size for millions of years."

also stated, "The research appears to back up the idea that Earth’s oceans gradually oozed out from the planet’s interior.

“We should be grateful for this deep reservoir,” said Jacobsen. “If it wasn't there, it would be on the surface of the Earth, and mountain tops would be the only land poking out.”

So obviously these bodies of water are connected. If only by "oozing" then so be it. However like the story says, if it wasn't for the "oosing" the tallest mountains would be underwater.

Also if you want to quote Al Gore technically the temperature below the Earth is "several million degrees." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGbEE-1hA2s So obviously Wiki is wrong......

Edit: I am not pretending to be a scientist, but here is what Wiki says about how hot water can get under pressure, and 1000+ degrees is not possible for water to stay liquid. Maybe I am reading it wrong.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheated_water

Also, don't forget Obama sold the right to pump out of Great Lakes to China.

http://endoftheamericandream.com/ar...a-as-half-the-u-s-faces-extreme-water-crisiss

Our leader is clueless, or an enemy.

Quite desperate. The Great Lakes contain ~4 quadrillion gallons of water, which is really just passing through on it's way to the ocean via the St Lawrence river or to the atmosphere via evaporation. The world's largest supertanker hauls ~4M gallons & won't fit through the locks into the great lakes. Even if it did, basic math tells us that there are ~1B tanker loads in the Great Lakes at any one time.

Cluelessness definitely applies, certainly not wrt Obama over this so-called "issue".

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the drought in California, but even the most tenuous imaginary connection gives you the opportunity to rave, right?

Jhhnn - you have a nice day. I can't get anywhere in a conversation with you because you post easily debunked "facts" and only lean left. I have had many conversations with you and I can't remember one time you didn't take a potion from the left. You my friend, are what the powers that be call a sheeple. Enjoy life brother.

if china wants water. I say we send em the stuff that goes down when we flush....they send us shit so its only fair....California is doomed no matter what .unless it starts raining a whole lot and we get huge snow packs in the mountains...I can see the snow from my doorway and this year was again pathetic, and the river going into the valley aint much better....3 weeks was all it was kayakable...and barely at that...

The Earth is effectively a closed system and the amount of water it contains is essentially constant. Search the water cycle. When you have a drought in the west you may have floods in the south. If we’re sending water to China, they have more, we have less.

To blame water shortages on marijuana growers in Cali is ludicrous compared to all the other entities that are using and/or mismanaging the water supply.

There was a big flap in Mich about Nestle sucking the aquifers dry and it really boiled down to the people (of Mich) protecting their own. And rightly so.

I think the people of these 11 islands would disagree about the water levels not rising.

11 Islands That Will Vanish When Sea Levels Rise

lol, if and when huh. The study shows sea levels to remain fairly constant over millions of years, but soon, you will see, the oceans will over take major city's, lol.

For the record I am not saying climate change doesn't happen, it does. However I believe other factors have a bigger influence on the Earths weather than humans, such as the sun. Climate change has been happening for a very long time, all on it's own.

Did you read anything beyond the title? I'm inclined to think you didn't otherwise you would have seen it's already happening to these islands so no if's and the only when is when will they be completely underwater? I'm guessing you don't want to acknowledge any of that though as it kind of blows your premise that sea levels are staying constant, right out of the water (no pun intended).

Also what study is this you speak of that claims sea levels remained relatively constant for millions of years? Man hasn't been around millions of years to conduct a study of that scope. The EPA though has found that sea levels have risen 8 inches since 1870, so much for a constant sea level eh? Millions of years constant and in the last 145 years it changes. Now let me see, what other thing in history matches up with that time period? Oh yes that's when the industrial revolution carried us into the Modern era and the world saw it's population grow from 1 Billion to 7 Billion and yet somehow man has had no effect on climate change? Oh I know, 8 inches is nothing but you seem to think this sea level rise taking over cities is supposed to happen like overnight (relatively speaking) and that's where you are wrong. It'll be a slow steady increase over a number of years and people like you will refuse to take it seriously until it's too late. Perhaps you've been watching too many Hollywood doomsday movies and have visions of gigantic waves sweeping in and washing cities like New York away in a matter of hours?
