Hillary Clinton isn’t blowing smoke when she says she’s open to legalizing marijuana

It's not hatred of women..at least for most of us.It is the realization that ego-tripping, self serving, power mongers know no sex boundary.

How does that fit with the reality that Federal power has been relinquished to CO & WA wrt marijuana legalization? How is giving up power defined as power mongering?

Hillary certainly voiced no objection to that in the reference article on page 1.

I was merely speaking in generalities, having to do with the subject of the "hatred of women meme".I wasn't referring to the states rights issue...but she did make an interesting statement about "states are the laboratories of democracy".She evidently has handlers who have the pulse of America...and are able to explain that to her.

"Hillary certainly voiced no objection to that in the reference article on page 1."

No she didn't..(I suppose) but out of one side of her mouth she makes the statement “in extreme medical conditions",and then out of the other side of her mouth she suggests that she "was open to seeing recreational use legalized". Typical political double speak...sad that she doesn't have anything refreshing (or honest) to say about the topic.

I know you were speaking in generalities. OTOH, I think you're entirely too quick to dismiss & deny contrary evidence.

I fail to see how the "power monger" attribution fits in either the sidetrack about misogyny or Hillary's support for giving federal power to the states wrt cannabis legalization.

You have both failed to make such connections and deliberately avoided doing so, going on to employ other disparagements & characterizations indicating that your feelings toward Hillary aren't completely rational. That's evident when factual evidence contrary to belief is ignored. It's a form of Denial.

Of course she offered nothing refreshing. All she said is that she knows which way the wind blows & that she's not interested in trying to stop it. That's enough.

I'm glad that she didn't come out all gung-ho for legalization. She's such a polarizing figure that some people would come out against it just because she's for it.

please explain how the president can give 'federal powers' to 'the states'

because.... there has been no policy change. if there was some kind of policy change then things would have gotten better(or worse - if there was any change at all to be seen). it has not and absolutely nothing has changed, everything is exactly the same as it was in 2007

truth is not in the job description of obama or holder...

look at what the supreme court is doing, all three branches have been corrupted, the only solution is admitting they are corrupted and work to get money out of politics, there are no other issues, that is the only one...

Excuse me? Nothing has changed? Tell that to the thousands of retail marijuana customers in CO. Tell it to the personal home growers throughout CO who enjoy non-interference from both state & federal authorities. Tell it to the people who've invested their money in CO licensed retail operations.

For The First Time Ever, More Than Half The Members Of Congress Are Millionaires

http://www.thedailysheeple.com/for-...e-members-of-congress-are-millionaires_062014

Wealthy members of Congress are living the high life at taxpayer expense, while most of the rest of the country continues to suffer through one of the worst economic periods in our lifetimes. According to an analysis conducted by the Center for Responsive Politics earlier this year, more than half of the members of Congress are millionaires. This is the first time that this has ever happened in U.S. history. In addition, the same study found that a hundred members of Congress are actually worth at least five million dollars. We have a government of the wealthy, by the wealthy and for the wealthy, but as you will see below, that isn’t stopping members of Congress from wasting taxpayer money in some incredibly bizarre ways. Millions of dollars are being spent on “office expenses” and on the hair care needs of Senators, but very little is being done to stop this abuse. It is almost as if the American people have just accepted that this is how “big government” is supposed to operate.

No matter what your political affiliation is, it should bother you that we are overwhelmingly being represented by the very wealthy. We are supposed to be a government “of the people”, but instead Congress is rapidly becoming a millionaire’s club…

For the first time in history, most members of Congress are millionaires, according to a new analysis of personal financial disclosure data by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Of 534 current members of Congress, at least 268 had an average net worth of $1 million or more in 2012, according to disclosures filed last year by all members of Congress and candidates. The median net worth for the 530 current lawmakers who were in Congress as of the May filing deadline was $1,008,767 — an increase from the previous year when it was $966,000.

And this is true on both sides of the aisle. In fact, when you break the numbers down by political party, they come out almost exactly the same…

Breaking the numbers down further, congressional Democrats had a median net worth of $1.04 million, while congressional Republicans had a median net worth of almost exactly $1 million. In both cases, the figures are up from last year, when the numbers were $990,000 and $907,000, respectively.

Of course wealthy people should not be prevented from serving in Congress.

All Americans should have that opportunity.

But when it gets to the point that only wealthy people are being elected, then we have a major problem on our hands.

Yes, a million dollars does not go as far as it used to. But it still puts you in the upper stratosphere of American society.

And these days, there are nearly 200 members of Congress that are multimillionaires…

Nearly 200 are multimillionaires. One hundred are worth more than $5 million; the top-10 deal in nine digits. The annual congressional salary alone—$174,000 a year—qualifies every member as the top 6 percent of earners. None of them are close to experiencing the poverty-reduction programs—affordable housing, food assistance, Medicaid—that they help control. Though some came from poverty, a recent analysis by Nicholas Carnes, in his book White Collar Government: The Hidden Role of Class in Economic Policymaking, found that only 13 out of 783 members of Congress from 1999 to 2008 came from a “blue-collar” upbringing.

Wow.

Shouldn’t we actually want to have some representatives that come from “blue collar” backgrounds?

So why do we have so few?

Has our political system failed?

Those are some important questions that we should be asking.

And then when all of these wealthy individuals get to Congress, they see absolutely no problem with spending U.S. taxpayer money like it is going out of style. For example, according to the Weekly Standard, more than five million dollars has been spent on the hair care needs of U.S. Senators alone over the past 15 years…

Senate Hair Care Services has cost taxpayers about $5.25 million over 15 years. They foot the bill of more than $40,000 for the shoeshine attendant last fiscal year. Six barbers took in more than $40,000 each, including nearly $80,000 for the head barber.

All of this is just for 100 U.S. Senators?

Many of them don’t even have much hair left anymore.

But of course the waste doesn’t stop there.

In one recent year, an average of $4,005,900 was spent on “personal” and “office” expenses per U.S. Senator.

So the grand total would have been over 400 million dollars.

Nearly half a billion dollars should be able to buy quite a bit of paper for the copier, eh?

And even when they leave Washington D.C., members of Congress will continue to collect huge chunks of U.S. taxpayer money for the rest of their lives…

In 2011, 280 former lawmakers who retired under a former government pension system received average annual pensions of $70,620, according to a Congressional Research Service report. They averaged around 20 years of service. At the same time, another 215 retirees (elected in 1984 or later with an average of 15 years of service) received average annual checks of roughly $40,000 a year.

I sure wish that I could collect a pension like that after working for only a few years.

Yes, members of Congress sure are living the high life at our expense.

Meanwhile, much of the rest of the country is really suffering right now…

-20 percent of all American families do not have a single member that is employed.

-One out of every eight men in their prime working years are not employed and are not looking for a job either.

-Due to a lack of economic opportunities, close to a third of all Americans 18 to 34 years old live with their parents.

-More Americans than ever before have been forced to turn to the government for assistance. The following numbers come from my recent article entitled “18 Stats That Prove That Government Dependence Has Reached Epidemic Levels“…

#1 According to an analysis of U.S. government numbers conducted by Terrence P. Jeffrey, there are 86 million full-time private sector workers in the United States paying taxes to support the government, and nearly 148 million Americans that are receiving benefits from the government each month. How long can such a lopsided system possibly continue?

#2 Ten years ago, the number of women in the U.S. that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps actually exceeds the number of women that have jobs.

#3 The U.S. government has spent an astounding 3.7 trillion dollars on welfare programs over the past five years.

You can read the rest of that article right here.

As for the rest of us, the fatcats in Washington D.C. see absolutely nothing wrong with taxing us into oblivion in order to keep the big government that they have created running smoothly.

Once upon a time, members of Congress were actually considered to be “public servants”.

If you tried to make that claim today, people would laugh at you.

Congress has become a club for the wealthy elite. They don’t care about the rest of us, and unless you are able to donate large amounts of money to their campaigns, you will probably be treated with contempt by them. They do pretty much whatever they want, and they have little fear of ever being held accountable because they know that incumbents have a re-election rate that is absolutely overwhelming.

Perhaps all of this helps to explain why the approval rating for Congress is sitting at just 13 percent at this point.

The extortion racquet is very profitable. I am shocked at how much money these thieves steal for expenses, and the President is the worst offender, with his monthly multimillion dollar vacations, golf outings. They are using us to the max, playing us like a fiddle. Democracy is dead. Welcome to oligarchy.

a few years ago it was brought to light about how much money nancy pelosi was worth,
you know one of those politicians that belives the evil greedy rich got their money by stealing it off the back s of the poor.
she claimed much of her money, in the tens of millions, some was married into,
but plenty of it was made through wise financial investments in the stock market.
ok.....fair enuff.
BUUUUTTT
when you look at her particular investments and and the time frames she acted within it was obvious she had insider knowledge of current and future legislation that would affect the value of businesses and their stocks that would either increase
or diminish in value.
she even had a hand in the legislative processes in some cases.
then depending how legistation would affect the value of the stock either banked on it or dumped her stock shares if she had any and ran with the money to the next *wise investment*
when asked about it she said what she did was perfectly legal....:shucks:

which in plain english means she made a pile of money with insider knowledge trading which is a crime who many have gone to prison for.
but not members of congress like pelosi, they're exempt.

legislation is *finally *in the works to stop this practice.
so nancy pelosi got rich off of criminal activity we little people go to prison for.

the hipocrisy is astounding from pelosi who on one hand despises and encourages class warfare against americans who have through hard work become wealthy.
kinda like hillary saying the clintons $100,000,000 worth really isn't comfortable rich, and they're different because the earned it through hard work,
unlike those *other* rich people who really didn't earn it.
I wonder what her stock portfolio looks like?

amazing!

This country is no longer a republic; it's more like fascism-gone-wild! As I have seen for the last two decades, our Constitution has been slowly eviscerated. Now, it is much more blatant, (in your face)...one executive order after another. And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care. Only those who do notice definitely get no air time.

Yes gnome, They all wreak of insider trading, but I think any preventive legislation they pass will be nothing more than a paper tiger, with lots of hidden loopholes.

You are mistaken about the increasing frequency of executive orders-

Obama, for example, has issued them at a lower rate than GWB.

Considering all politicians are walking, talking pieces of feces, getting that one issue across would be worth it.

They are all useless whores, owned by those that buy them off, at taxpayer expense. No wars, no profits.

mistake the forrest for the trees or something like that

I think it was, "I can not see the forest, through the tree's".

Very fitting.

"ALL POLITICIANS ARE SCUM". Very few break this rule.

I know I am getting off topic, but US is in what pilots call a death spiral, financiiy. Economy sucks, too many un-employed, eveyone buying garbage from China. Politicains just care about who is paying them off, Military whores (that blow loads, the more the middle east is f-ed up)/Pharm/Chem/Auto/Unions. Taxpayers should be number one concern, and reducing their rate

Jhhnn ,
wiki totals all 8 yrs of bush(291) to
obama's 6yrs 6months and 20 days(182)

but really, i think we all(nearly all) concede its not about how many EO's have been done as to what they were done for.

you sound like the media these days where they sit around and chat about how they can make the O-Bozo look as good as as possible on any given story, which is what some reporters have come out on the record and say goes on....
its like reading the russian newspaper tass or pravda during the cold war

I read the bias in the paper everyday,
I watch a particular hearings and see exactly whats said
then read the AP or Rueters story in the paper.
its what really transpired,
but as anyone knows its easy to structured in a way to favor one side or another through omission and out of context quotations.

Don't forget our boarders are being invaded. Look into history and see how in the past that has been used as a weapon against countries.

Facts apparently don't matter. Building an argument about encroaching fascism on the false premise of increasing executive orders makes no sense but rather confirms existing belief using falsehood.

That doesn't mean the existing belief is wrong but rather that rational argument must be based on true information.

Basic math, Gnome.

291/8= 36 exec orders per year for GWB.

182/6.5= 28 exec orders per year for Obama.

Which is merely an aside. The whole argument claiming increasing executive orders is false.

Your vague & unsubstantiated argument wrt the importance of those orders is merely self-confirmation of what you already believe. It's not like Obama ordered the internment of Japanese Americans or authorized the creation of the detention facility at Gitmo, either.

Perspective. Get some.

As Gnome pointed out already, the number of executive orders is far less pertinent than what they addressed. The number per year is completely irrelevant considering that Bush is long done and Obama appears to be just warming to the task. In actuality, most of Obama's more egregious decisions have been implemented via memorandums rather than executive orders.

Nice red herring, though.

The powers that be laugh when we compare party leaders and have that be the justification for their own wrong doings. Bush and Obama are horrible for the country, and comparing one against the other does us no good. George Washington warned us of a two party system, knowing they will become one party under the guise of two parties in order to further their goals.
