Few Questions for a Lurker

Breakover

I got it from amazon at (http://www.amazon.com/Flame-King-YS...eywords=flame+king+refrigerant#productDetails). IDK if it has additives in it though, does anyone else know?

I ran some fresh stuff recently, but it still ran dark and looked like it was full of chlorophyll. Do I need to shut the butane injection line off after I feel the cold hit the middle of the column? When do I shut it off? And when do I dump the column?

I'm a little confused at this step. A step by step direction on what to do after pulling a full vac would be greatly appreciated. I haven't received my upgrade parts to have the top flush option yet but will use that soon.

If it's too fresh it will come out green. If it is trimmed by machine it will come out green.

You need to let the solvent go all the way up and over.

1. Vac down system.
2. Open liquid line with main column valve closed and vent valve open.
3.Turn rec pump on.
4. Allow solvent to climb column and run over the top.

What you do from there depends on what you want.

I tried running the same trim in an open blast and it came out much more clear so it must be the technique I'm using. It's unfortunate that both my recovery pumps (reftec diablo) died on me so my arms are tied to try any other new techniques. I do not recommend buying the reftec diablo at all.

a low-tech but effective solution for emptying tubes is to chuck one of these inexpensive augers into a cordless drill;

http://www.yardbutlerstore.com/shop/category/garden-tools/bulb-augers/

they are available all over in a variety of lengths and widths and work rather well.

Great idea! I've seen this one other time before. I had one concern with electric drills tho. Most drills use brushed motors that trow off a lot of sparks which could turn your column into a rocket and mess up your day real good.

A pneumatic drill might be a better option for this application.

A couple of months ago this problem of clearing the tubes came up and Gray Wolf and someone else thought of using compressed air and blowing the tubes clear, there is even a picture of Gray Wolf clearing a tube out in his back yard, all the parts used to make it came from Glacier Tanks, can't find the picture. Its already been done, ask Gray Wolf.

I've already figured out that my compressor wasn't at a high enough psi to shoot the columns out easily. I remedied the problem..

However, I still need some questions answered. Is it safe to store butane in the freezer at -50C? I'm planning to get a freezer for dewaxing purposes without having to utilize a buchner. Any thoughts?

I don't believe that you will run into conditions where the tube could explode or rocket away, the packing density doesn't allow those air/fuel ratio's. Of course, if you're extracting "in your bathroom with the door closed" you are 100% correct. Anyway, i always liked the idea of "drying" spent tubes overnight before decanting.

It says right in the picture, "MAY HAVE BEEN USED FOR RECOVERY R410A REFRIGERANT"

It sounds like your tank may be contaminated.

As far as chlorophyll coming out in your oil, try soaking for a shorter period of time. Also, what type of filters are you using?

As far as unpacking, you shouldn't really need a drill. As noted, there is a risk of sparks.(they literally come flying out at times)

A long stick should be enough. Push it in the tube a little bit then put the other end of the stick against the ground and push your weight down on the tube.

I've seen it done, it works. Would I ever trust it? Hell no. I recommend you don't either.

Why is storing butane at -50C not recommended? If the butane is inside a closed tank, would it still be unsafe? I'm just trying to understand why it's unsafe.

It says "May BE used." Not may have been. I don't think it's the tanks because I'm not getting the same taste from the other trim I recently ran, although they are still turning out kinda dark. I'm going to try dewaxing with 190 proof everclear but I really want to know why it's unsafe to store butane in a freezer. It would never be in an open container.

Whoops, that's what I get for multitasking! Although I have definitely seen notices of the same color stating what I said.

Again, at fault of multitasking. I assumed you meant chilling the tank during an extraction. Are you talking about putting a closed tank in the freezer? Sure it should be fine. Personally I would never do it just as a precaution. Chilling the tank to that temperature is no problem, but ideally potential ignition sources should be kept as far away from butane as possible, open or closed. As GW says, "in case something goes wrong, goes wrong, goes wrong".
