I just called some concrete supply places out if sacramento found some 7 x 200 ft rolls but it's not galvanized like the stuff depot use to carry. Not sure how these things will hold up if they get a lil wet

I don't think any remesh is galvanized because it's meant to lay inside the slab and never be exposed to elements...I've had cages for years that I use every season with no issues.

The 5'x150' roll that I got from Home Depot is rather cheap and work-stress breaks with a few bends. I have seen other people complaining about the same on the reviews on HD's website. I'm not sure whether it was advertised as galvanized or not, but it certainly doesn't act it: mine have a nice rusty coating on them already from basic exposure to moisture. The 2"x4" galvanized welded rectangle fencing doesn't have this rusting problem. I doubt Lowe's 5'x150' roll (same price) is any different.

Messed up thing is that with the winds slapping the branches around this and that way, the slightly "gritty" texture of the rusty cage only helps to cut grooves into branches, some pretty badly, some only slightly. Kinda like a file. Still sucks and wondering if straight stakes + HortaNova might not be better in windy environments. Better yet, maybe the softer braided nylon trellis.

If you absolutely need higher height, you could always double them up, overlapping perhaps 3-4 squares and lots of strong ties to hold it rigidly in place.

If you know how to weld, that'd be even better.

Powder coat or maybe vinyl coated would be awesome but doesn't seem anywhere near worth the effort.

Plant it high, it won't die. Plant it low, it won't grow.

Got it from a buddy, who in turn got it directly from Bodhi. This is supposed to be the pheno that smells of Fruity Pebbles cereal in milk. Sorry I've been absent, you can see from the pictures how much work there has been. As for the cages... The only warning with the concrete mesh is rust, maybe file down anything that you cut.

Hmm wonder if it's his selection from seed or Aliens cut.. Supposedly the cereal pheno comes up quite a bit. I plan on open pollinating mine as well as cross to GSC sometime this fall. Look forward to seeing how yours comes out.

I think i heard that burying the rootball too deep can cause stem rot

I have read that too but it was on this web site. Seems like a case of recycle misinformation to me. While I'm sure it can cause stem rot, this would likely occur if the plants immune system is already weak for any reason and if the soil medium was soggy.

Another result is that the healthy plant grows roots out of its stem and gets even burlier. Like how roots grow when you clone a plant.

Tomato growers commonly bury there starts extra deep so that roots will grow out of the stem, cannabis is certainly capable of this as well.

im not a fan of burying the stem…lost 2 green cracks last year to that mistake. the rot started at the stem i could easily see it…of course bad soil and an unhealthy plant overall will help contribute. i try to keep the main base of the stem as dry as possible now...

it's all good. Our neighbors had to downsize from 200 plants last year to only 24 this year because of the new ordinance so i think we can get some of their old cages. makes life a little easier.

thanks. Big pots are great, 800gallons is a good size. 1000 would be even better. All of our 400's look small to me now.

Wookie is Lavender x Appalachia , from Bodhi. We got cuts of it, not seeds. Supposed to be some very tasty stuff.

Update?

Took a couple pictures at sunrise today. All the plants are growing at a good rate, except for a few late replacements that need to catch up. Seed plants are really exploding, especially all the Bodhi strains. His Snow Lotus male must be something special. The Wifi#3 X Snow Lotus are really blowing up. Too bad i don't think he made many of those? We have 7 beans of it left and i'm saving them for next year!

first picture is Wifi#3 x Snow Lotus in 800gallon, second is Ancient OG (Iranian OG x Snow Lotus) in 400gallon.

the summer solstice kicks things in to high gear. Most of our plants aren't huge but they are healthy and just starting to really blow up. Looking much better than last year. With all the late replacements our lineup looks like this right now:

This week we are top-dressing, taking cuts, putting up cages/nets, and also expanding a few pots. We might anchor down some of the cages with t-posts because we've been reading about wind ripping them out and taking whole plants with them, although we had no issues last year. I dont think we get heavy wind here really.

Still working on getting a well technician out here to give a quick report, but h2o is ok so far. Our neighbors said we should be fine that we are on a huge aquifer due to being near yosemite or something.
