The truth about sealed rooms

I run a flower room with co2 enrichment, the door is always closed. This run I got a new puppy and wanted to keep him out of my veg room.I just vegged some beauties with a closed room and no co2 enrichment.Dont think I would try it flowering though.Actually my very first grow was BG C-99 and I didn't use co2 for veg or flower, needless to say it was BG killer lol.If you can utilize co2,its a good thing to do but I found it not a dealbreaker at all.I do use a window unit and oscillating fans though.I don't think my window unit uses fresh air I'm pretty sure it recirculates so no real co2 there. My point is don't let it stop you from growing

Yea I just finished watering my flowering plants and was up to 2300PPM on my controller which is set at 1500.I sleep in my vegroom but I cant believe I would have enough co2 to last for a 16 hour photoperiod.Maybe it does because That door has been shut throughout veg with lights on.I normally sleep from midnight till 10 or so,lights come on at 6 am and off at 10 pm.Glad I didn't waste my money on that mushroom fugus crap

my co2 was down for a few days. i set up a simple mr heater on a propane tank. by the time i wedged it into a spot i felt comfortable with got it taped and skrewed on tight and lit all my huffing and puffing had raised the room to an acceptable level. haha i lit it the next day. a few minutes nearly over shot my range.

what is a sealed room ? growing indoor with added CO2 without intake/outtake ?

A sealed room has no airflow in or out just a room with the door closed.I use a 12,000 BTU window AC and a propane burner and controller.Thats the setup in my flower room. The point is this is how its supposed to work you must have co2 in a sealed room(room with door closed no air in or out) for the plants to flourish.Well I just did a veg run in a sealed room with no co2 and they grew perfectly.I didn't think that was supposed to happen with all the talk of importance of fresh air flow or co2 enrichment

That is exactly my experience, Floridian. When I first setup my room, I thought I was going to have to supplement co2, and then I read about some other people doing the same thing without supplementing, so I did it too. My first grow did fine, and every other grow since then too. I yield a pound under a 1000w light, in a small, mostly-sealed room, with no fresh air intake or anything like that. Air finds a way. Unless you are in a hermetically sealed laboratory or something like that, anyway.

I use a window AC, which you are correct they don't exchange outside air, and the heat from the HID gets dumped right back into the same room where the AC cools it back down again.

Very funny thread but in all seriousness,

The point of a sealed room would be to run higher levels (of co2)
than normally would be offered in the environment we experience outdoors.

It is recommended if Ur not supplementing co2, to exchange the air (w/ fresh air) in your grow environment X amount of times per hour

Yes plants will grow ok in an environment that is not being completely supplemented with proper amounts of co2

But I promise, if you somehow took away all co2 Ur plants would surely die.

Think of co2 4 plants as oxygen is for you .

but how the plants have access to fresh air ? only the AC ?
interesting set up, Floridian, dont you have odor problem near your room ? no odor treatment ?

Well the point is that most sealed rooms are not completely sealed, and when you open the door to enter and exit air is exchanged, and humans exhale [a lot of] CO2 while they are in the room.

There's more to a sealed room than CO2. You can closely control temp and humidity. A properly managed sealed room will seldom have problems with Powdery Mildew or Botritus. -granger

it looks like an interesting growing technique for big room, do you guys really harvest 20-30% more flowers with added CO2 than in a normal indoor set up ?

I can't speak for anyone else, but my whole reason for using a sealed room is for temperature control. Has nothing to do with being able to run super high co2 levels. I have to use an air conditioner to be able to use a 1000w light. The choice made itself for me.

When a room isn't hermetically sealed, air finds its way in. Every time I open the door, I exchange air. Every time I exhale while I'm in there, I'm exchanging air. Unless you are growing in sealed catacombs beneath the city, or some other kind of random weird situation like that, your plants will find the co2 they need.

Also, odor control is simple. You put a carbon filter and a fan in there, without any ducting, and it scrubs the air while recirculating it.

you may be able to keep plants alive at adequate co2 levels and get by but why settle for that. for a minimal investment you could set up a burner with a sensor and watch your yields climb and utilize the ability to use higher temps. depending on how many lights you run it should pay for itself immediately. why just get by. do what your plants like. you went through all the trouble of setting up a\c in a sealed room with a scrubber. why would you not go the final measure and bump your co2 levels to 1500, raise rh, and temp and reep the benefits. im confused at your reluctance :dunno:

That's cool because many people argue that... But I don't typically see people yielding that in horizontal setups. Could I increase my yields using co2 supplementation? Absolutely, unarguably, yes. Is it necessary for me to take on that extra expense and regular maintenance? No. A pound lasts me and my wife about 9 months.

There is no need for me to get another cd-6 and PPM-1 like I have in my flower room, thats the jist of this thread.I veg beautiful plants with out them although I don't think I's want to try it in flower.Just letting people know vegging in a closed room is fine.My setup in flower is 3 1K vertizontals a 12000 BTU AC Cd-6 and PPM=1 and a dehumidifier of course.I don't always run all 3 1K's but when I do it keeps the room just around 85F.Cats Meow I reckon you are easily humored?

i hear ya. if its personal use and thats working i see your point. but if its a matter of price per lb and price of electricity vs price of a co2 system then hands down the co2 wins. once its set up it requires about as much maintenance as a can opener. just to say that one unit ive never done anything to and the other one needs me to push a needle through the brass burner once a year..the cost of gas is laughable when you compare it to the additional electricity per pound it requires to produce herb without it. so from an exspense angle you are the one operating at an additional cost. 12 kwh per day for 60 days equals 1 lb vs 2lbs you can do the math on that.co2 is cheap to run and effortless to maintain. the quipment can set you back some hundreds of dollars. but one extra pound a year would cover that.you dont need to change im just responding so that others reading this trying to set up who are knew dont think they could just get away with not supplementing in a sealed system.you would cut the price of your nine month supply considerably.
