Your POT soil mix

Some good ideas for soil mixes....alot more complicated than i care to mix tho. I'm guessing some of these mixes basically keep you from having to add nutes along the way. forgive me if this is a well known way of growing lol i'm still on my first grow trying to learn as much as possible.

For my mix i used
2 parts schultz potting soil
1 part vermiculite
1 part perlite
and a handful of dolomite lime per 2 gallons of mix.

working well so far but i'm open to ideas.

I think the "Cooking" idea is a good one and ill try that next time

For my next grow which will be soon, i want to use a simple but good soil mix. I will be using Flora Nova Grow and Bloom as my main nutrients, and some Canna PK 13/14 for a Flower Booster and Epsom Salt if needed.

Will the following work fine: Either FFOF or Pro-Mix with Perlite and Dolomite Lime for PH Stabalizing? If i am using the nutrients listed above? Also what kind of Pro Mix should i get? And what Ratio of Pro Mix/FFOF to Perlite should i use? And last but not least, how much dolomite lime?

Thanks

I don't understand how in the hell anyone could possibly pull a whole grow off, especially indoors, with Miracle Grow Moisture Control. I bought a small bag of this crap just to see what it was all about and planted some basil in it. My girlfriend used the rest for some house plants. I swear that none of the plants that had any MG moisture control in it ever dried out once! Every last plant that had that shit in it died due to root rot!! I've never seen anything like it! I've banned Miracle grow completely since!
So what you are saying is that it works.
You just under estimated it.
LOL.

Anyways, I use a big ole bag of Atami Hydromix soiless.
Done.
No messy soil BS.

i am going to bump this thread as i want to see more different soil mixes i know this thread is alittle old but hey better then creating new my next soil mix is going to be this 1 1.5cu ft bag of blackmagic "potting soil"(mainly compost with about 35% peat and 10% perlite),1 8qt bag of expert gardner potting soil,1 25lb bag of hummus/composted hen manure,8qts perlite right now it is all mixed up in a compost bin composting for a few weeks untill i use it for my new clones....im still going to pasturize the soil to make sure it has no bugs or baddies in it even tho it smells nice and earthy and has a great texture...

Hi to all...this is the first time I have posted on this site and like you all I wanted to get the best out of my grow. I have grown many different kinds, and I have used all kinds of mixtures to try and get the best....and then I read about usinf fishmix from start to finish. I had nothing to lose so I went ahead. My grow room is 8'L x 8'H x 2.5'W and I was using just a 400w lamp and just 3 plants f2 killing fields. The only thing I added to this was a teaspoon of epsom salts, and only once. They grew strong and heavy to the point I had to stake to stop them falling out of the light....as cheep as chips..no messing and I took
9oz....I hope that helps.

Fox Farm Ocean Forest 70% Canna Coco 30% 2 tbls of Happy Frog 5-5-5 per gallon 2 tbls of lime per gallon supplement with cal-mag throughout and a little Pure Blend Pro bloom.

Make sure you have one more gallon of soil vs size of plant 3 foot plant = 4 gallons of soil and so on if choose not to do so then you will to use the PBP grow along with the bloom at around day 25 ending at 40 utilizing a 75 day finish.

I think it’s essential to know what your plants need out of soil & nutrients; why they need what they do;& how to give it to them.

Understanding that your plant has different needs through-out it's life cycle will help to understand & identify why a "one mix & nuet it' will give poor returns

I am on my 3rd soil mix & I am on a quest for the perfect soil mix for me; it must have a pH of 6.3- 6.5 & have a lot of aeration

Please post your current soil mix & try to name products;

My current compost mix is 'cooking' in a large plastic tub; & in 11 - 3 gal tubs with plants in them / I have a few in 1 qt-ers started in another soil & a few yet to move to 3 gal pots from 2 1/2 qters - (1 qt - 2 1/2 qt - 3 gal)

I am now using;
1 c.ft. Of Miracle grows new Organic potting soil
1/2 c.ft at wallmart "Expert perfect' pot soil
1/2 c.ft of Jeff's all organic soil
1 bag of pure sphagnum peat
2 cups "Espoma" Blood Meal
3 cups 'Espoma' Bone meal
1 cup of Sulfate of Sulfur
1 1/2 cups of Sulfate of potash (cannabis is a P hog but needs it more during the begining of flowering)
4 bags of Shultz perilite
1/2 bag of new 'Espoma' Soil perfector (U should try these- they work great & are forever reusable)

This gave me a pH of 6.5 – I am hoping the sulfur will lower the pH a bit as we go to give a bit of a pH drift & work the pH to 6.3

In the next few grows I am going to play around with my soil mix & put to work what I know about ferts & soil & then learn what suits my Canna-Meds & my taste diet the best.

Please post your recipe:

(ps. Ag vocation school is paying off)

I stopped reading this after I read that you used killer grow. How & why could you use that crap. Knowing that they make weed killer materials in the same factory. Dumb

Has anyone experimented with adding Biochar as a soil amendment? I mix it to 20% of my soil and have seen about a 20% increase in yield. I use a brand called Organichar. Also conserves water and makes nutes more accessible.

My base is:

2 Parts- Roots Organics B2
1 Part- Roots Organics Marine Green
1 Part- Worm Castings
1 Part- Perlite
1/2 Part- Coco coir

Then I add a dry mix fertilizer from black lake organic nursery in Olympia, Wa complete with minerals, myco's, azo's and a plethora of amendments.

Spaceman_Spliff - Yes use a product called Organichar which comes pre-inoculated and PH washed ready for use as a soil ammendment. It is a great host for beneficial bacteria and allows me to decrease nutrients and water. Iv seen my yields boost a lot since I began using it!

The one I use is in small shard pieces maybe 3-5 sand particles big and has been heated to 500'C. How did you make it yourself? I have heard the pyrolysis can be fairly toxic if not done properly but I have not really looked into making it.

I used a 2 barrel pyrolizer; outside barrel a 100 gallon propane tank with the top cut off an 8" hole on the very top for a stack then 4 1" holes just under the cut off top and 4 at the bottom. A 15 gallon barrel inside with the lid on. Fill the 15 gallon barrel with dry wood chips. Loosely Put the lid on that barrel and set it in the outside barrel upside down, fill the space left in the big barrel with fire wood fairly tight pack but enough air flow for air to get from the bottom holes up the stack. The stack draws air through the air holes keeping the fire hot.

I grow on a balcony and also in the bush for a bit of personal smoke ..I also veg seedlings and reveg plants sometimes indoors under CFLs....and I'm a cheap bastard

I use a combination of used potting soil and cheap peat based potting soil with perlite and depending on the season, vermiculite too. I add small amounts of 3 or 4 different powdered or pelleted (also cheap) ferts. I do my gardening supply shopping at a local supermarket! ha!..mix it all up, dampen and let sit for at least a few months tossing every now and then for best results, but can be used after a few weeks if it's not too hot with ferts. Smell is a good indication to tell you if the soil has been aged enough. get down and smell it, it will smell good in an earthy way, not sour or sharp or pongy.

Aged, enriched soils are much like properly cured buds....in that there's no substitute for time and timing.
