Vacuum Exhaust

I've been wondering about the best means of venting vacuum exhaust.

I've noticed my Robinair 15300 vents mineral oil primarily when actively pulling a significant vacuum (so when pulling up to -29 HG, in the first few minutes), and to a small degree, vents imperceptible amounts constantly.

How do you guys deal with your vacuum exhaust?

I know that Across International markets their vacuum pumps with exhaust filters. But they're around 150 dollars a piece, and only compatible with their vacuum pumps, at least according to Across International. Definitely a bit too expensive for something they will need to be replaced, and the same is true of their pumps.

I've personally tried attaching hex nuts with NPT fittings between 3/8 to 1/4, to allow me to attach a vent hose, which I would just put out a window, but none of the fittings will fit, as it's probably not a standardized size. That would be too easy :)

Any ideas on how best accomplish filtration or venting of vacuum exhaust?

I had the same vacuum pump you do. I ended up drilling a hole through the cap and slipped a long 1" hose over it with some hose clamps. I then plumbed the exhaust outside.

You should be able to get a coalescing exhaust filter for the pump (also called a mist separating filter)
This one might fit: http://www.centurytool.net/15147_Robinair_Vacuum_Pump_Exhaust_Filter_p/ro15147.htm

Nothing wrong with venting the exhaust outside either, but the oil will usually condense in the first few feet of hose so make sure to keep the hose vertical for a few feet off the pump and the oil can then drain back. Loops are to be avoided also.

Even a few feet of vertical hose of say 1" or more dia. with some cotton loosely placed inside will catch most of the mist and it's cheap.

Peace. RB

Thank you very much! I'll certainly be giving that a shot once I get my hand on a drill and some proper tubing. I'll likely just go for excess hosing to cause to recondense/be caught by tubing.

Yellowjacket pumps are good for this as any garden hose can be attached and led to a point outdoors.

I'm getting the JB industries which also has threading on the handle/ exhaust port just not the same at YJs, so I will be attaching a hose myself and venting it outdoors.

If I had todo it all over again, Id buy lab pumps from the gate. Screw hvac pumps. Invest. There more geared for what we do.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my new pump (CPS VP6S) has a 3/4 inch exhaust port.

I put a male 3/4inch hose barb with a 1/2 inch barb, and a 30 foot vinyl hose to route the exhaust through my house to a vent fan that leads outside. My vacuum is now running out of sight and mind in a closet.

For my Robinair 15300, I'm thinking that Terpp's suggestion will work beautifully, though I'll need to wait until I get my grubby hands on a drill.
