Black Domina Phenos?

Hey folks,

I know there are threads about the great black domina already. However, I was unable to find a thread about black domina phenos. I'm not sure if this is because I'm to stupid to use this forum correctly, or there simply aren't any threads regarding black domina phenos.

Here are my questions.

1. Does most black domina taste like rotten fruit? I've heard from quite a few people that BD often tastes like rotten fruit.

2. Are there any special phenos to look for with the BD?

3. Do most phenos have good (pain/insomnia) medical qualities?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, or if these questions seem stupid. I've been looking for a strain that helps me greatly with my insomnia and from what I've read this strain seems to be the answer. I'd like to get a hold of some of these beans in the near future. I'm not sure if I'd like the rotten fruit taste of the BD, and I know the simple answer would be ''just pick another strain'', but I'm wondering if the medical qualities of this strain would outweigh the taste (if it does indeed have a bad taste).

I smoked some way back, and it had a very skanky, dirty dank smell, maybe slightly rotten fruitish, just remember it stunk with a real funk ive not smelt in anything else but a pheno of mr.nice shit. I really liked it, was one of my alltime favs from way back before diesel and jack herer.

The one i'm smoking tastes like a spicy/peppery/garlic grape(maybe not grape, but something fruit/sweet). More pepper/garlic, less grape. I've heard it described like that, and after smoking it and thinking of those, that's definitely what I get. It hits you immediately and it's a definite downer/couchlock.
I got my sample from a local dispensary, the same place/strain that I got clones from about 6-7 weeks ago. The plant grows like a champ, I'll be keeping it for sure.

19 days of 12/12. Supposedly it finishes in 7-8 weeks.

I grew it out last year from a pack of seeds purchased in 07 and i have to say it didnt look a much like bloads pics. Of 7 plants i had 2 pheno's. One was very short,very fat deep greeen leaves - almost pol yploid like in density and branching and had a considerable yield. The other pheno reminded me of Northern lights -christmas treeish as opposed to branchy with a bit less yield. Both tasted peppery spice/hashy sort-of and smelled piney mint. I didnt experience any rotted meat.

Both had decent potency and a heavy effect. They would treat insomnia.

I have to say however, that the Maple leaf indica was a much nicer plant, finished a week sooner and was much more sedate and narcotic than the Bd. White Rhino is just as potent and productive at much less money. For me, the strain was good, but there are a dozen strains equally as good at a much fairer price. Theyve tacked on 50 bucks because its sensi.

Agree with everything DS Toker MD said. BD is a good plant but there are plenty of similar strains out there that carry a much lesser pricetag. As far as smell, not a whole lot. Never gotten a BD with any rotten fruit smell.... more hashy/earthy undertones. MLI, blockhead, or PTK may be better suited for you.

The BD pheno that I have, albeit limited, experience with, featured a peppery/spicy/hash flavor. I also did not find it to be as narcotic as I had anticipated. But, I didn't grow it, just helped out, so who knows what she'll do in the right hands, and with the right selection. Most "clone banks" don't know what they are selecting for, and that's where he got it from, so I haven't ruled her out yet.

A lot going on in that cross, so chances are that you'll find something suited to you, assuming you pop enough.

As has been said though, if you're new, and looking for good medicine at a good price, most of Nirvana's Indica offerings are great deals. Their White Rhino is hard to beat at that price tag, really really solid line.

we picked up a pack about 5-6 years ago, grew it for 3-4 grows, we germ'd about 6 seeds, i remember 4 ladies, 3 very similar in growing, short/bushy plants, and the 4th, taller and lankier... which was probably the 'ortega' pheno...which is the 'killer-pheno' according to some.. we found em all smoke about the same... good...but def not the killer indica we were hoping for... we shit-canned all the mums about 3years ago..

BD is a 4 way hybrid of Ortega, Afghan, Hash Plant and NL. I imagine there is some variation to be expected. There is bound to be a keeper if you run enough of them.

According to Sensi, the taller pheno's are the ones to watch for.

Take that with a grain of salt. Sensi's rep has taken a pounding lately.

Anyone grown Sweet Seeds' S.A.D. lately? Would love to hear how it compares with nowaday's Domina as the original is wayyy overpriced at 120€ or so a pack.

^^ I grew one SAD last run a few months back. Very pleased and will order 3 pack at least in the near future.

Quality to the high not just a heavy downer. I let it go 10 or 11 weeks which was too long but still nice high. Go over to Sweet Seeds for my review and some others. Have never grown the Sensi BD and will likely not as the SAD gets it done for me.

Only grew one SAD and it was rotten fruit all over medium strong indica high with some lightness to the head not narcotic more a relaxing hit, than a knockout.

I think SAD is an S1 of a 90's cup winning BD cut, anyone know the original 90's BD cut?

1997 Sensi Black Dom that i remember had no fruit - just garlic, pepper and hash. A high that started behind your eyes then worked back in to your brain, heavy narcotic fuzzy red eye looked darker very like the late 90's sensi catalog pic thick wide dark leaves very vigerous for an indica with med-long internodes (very long for an indica WLD type)
