The movie is supposed to take place in Texas near the Mexican border, but appears to be filmed around Tucson. During the accident scene with the oil tanker, downtown Tucson can be seen in the background, and saguaro cactus grow only in the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico (not in Texas)

Those saguaro cactus also only seem to like certain areas of the Sanoran Desert, from what I noticed from I-10, I-17, and I-19. Am I correct? It seemed to be related to Elevation. I seem to remember that They weren't real low. Maybe like 5-600ft up to round 1500ft or so.

Those pukes in Hollywood would not know one desert from another. Their is so much life, and color in the deserts, it is amazing. Most Folks have NO idea, and it is probably BEST that way.

The Wife, and I drove truck over the road together for 10yrs.
We had to deliver just outside Tucson, at Imation(a 3M co.) They required that We drop Our trailer at the dock to unload, and reload us. They said about 3-4 hours. We Rolled out with Our Tractor (bobtail). This was out near Tucson Int. Raceway.
I just started out on a small blacktop, and found a spot 5-6miles out to park the truck out of the roadway. The wife was like what are doing stopped in the middle of BF no where.
I told Her to grab Her Camera, and come on. We just started walking. I had to remind Her to pay attention to where She was stepping. She's a City Girl.
This was early Spring, and their were so many things in bloom. I really miss running out West, South to north, I loved it ALL.

Just cheaper to film and get the crew to AZ dessert versus the longer hual from LA to a Texas shoot location, I assume.

Also, yeah the saguaro range all seems below the rim nothing above the high dessert. Probably related to seasonal monsoon patterns and not being able to take colder low temperatures in the winters up on the rim and anywhere but the Sonora, just evolved for out here..specialist ha

Most everything in the desert is a specialist, so unique. People included, it takes an inner toughness to live in the desert. I like to think I have what it takes, but as it was pointed out to Me by a Fellow Mid Westerner.
We hate the humidity of the MW, but just wait till Ur mucous membrane dries to the point of cracking, and bleeding with out it, or ya get a small cut, and Your skins so dry it wont heal. He was in the San Luis Valley in S. Co. at 8000' dry assed high desert.
I am sure that these things can be overcome/acclimated to, but its an example of the differences that most Folks don't even consider.
Oh, sure the Snowbirds go from Midwest to S.W. but They all have A/C in their R.V.s., but I'm talking out In the desert living rough.

Hey, I know, here's some good news for Arizonans!

Medical marijuana patients across the state got great news from the Arizona Supreme Court on April 22, 2014, when the judges ruled that police can’t charge drivers with being under the influence simply based on the presence of metabolites of cannabis in their blood.

The ruling comes in the case of Hrach Shilgevorkyan, a Valley man pulled over in late 2010 for speeding and unsafe lane changes. Officers suspected Shilgevorkyan was impaired, and he admitted using marijuana the night before, so his blood was drawn. No alcohol was found, but Shilgevorkyan’s blood tested positive for carboxy-THC, a byproduct of marijuana that can linger in blood for days or even weeks, and he was charged with DUI.

Shilgevorkyan asked the justice court to dismiss the case, arguing that he wasn’t impaired and hadn’t used cannabis before driving. The justice court dismissed the case. The dismissal was affirmed in Maricopa County Superior Court, but the Arizona Court of Appeals reversed that decision. Shilgevorkyan then appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court, which threw out the DUI conviction and offered its interpretation of the DUI statute.

The high court based its decision on the legislature’s intent to prevent impaired driving, not merely to prevent driving with evidence of marijuana use in blood. Because carboxy-THC does not cause impairment, the court ruled, it can’t be used as evidence to prosecute drivers. Hydroxy-THC – a metabolite that does cause impairment but is undetectable in blood within hours – can still be the basis for a DUI charge, the justices said.

Shilgevorkyan’s victory is of interest to almost every medical marijuana patient in the state, because virtually all patients have carboxy-THC in their blood at all times. We’re glad the court has struck down this unfair DUI statute.The ruling is a big relief for patients across Arizona.

Saguaros cactus grow in the Sonoran Desert and its outskirts. Which run the Altar valley from the northern part if the state to Vera Cruz Mexico. The average rain fall here is 14" a year which is a lot for a desert and make it very unique. I have about 50 or better Saguaros on the front of the property they are preferred by me as to Cholla cactus which gets everywhere or prickly Pear which I consider a noxious weed.

Tucson has movie sets where hundreds of movies have been made over the years. In the Saguaro Nat'l Monument West is the OLD TUCSON movies set and amusement park. the other set are in the Rincon Mtn's and the Dragoon Mtn's.

I have lived in this desert close to all my life was born and raised to the age of 7 in Park City Utah. Then family came to a ranch in Tombstone or on the San Pedro river btwn Sierra Vista and Tombstone. I have a place in Dateland 40 east of Yuma that I spend a lot of the winter and move to cooler Tucson in the summer. I like the heat, skin is like saddle leather go to the dermatologist and have those spot froze off every couple years.

THE BEST REASON TO LIVE IN THE SONORAN DESERT !!!! THE FANTASTIC POT THAT CAN BE GROWN FROM THE HEAT AND THE UV OF THE SUN

Madjag. I see you are posting from the Bloom Dispensary blog. I am concerned by them and a few other's that have some big lobbyist's working in the state Legislature. The last proposal to the legislature that was quashed before closing the session. to be able to grow 6 plants and turn over to the liquor board and legalize. There would be a $50.00 and ounce tax on dispensary sold.

I have extreme objections to this one we lose the medical protection. I have gone to several Bloom dispensaries to see what's up. This place is not for me but to others I support, I don't see them as my advocate but as a carpetbagger. The state of Arizona is second to the most taxed state in the Nation next to RI when all taxes tallied. Using $800.00 a lb to go after small growers that impact there tax bases. I don't see this as progress but repression my take on proposed AZ legislation.

I was picking up some blue prints on a project I am doing across from a Bloom dispensary in Tucson. I have some shrapnel still floating my lumbar and pelvis causes pain. I was early only customer I asked the weed tender what CBD strains they have NONE of course but they will call me when they get some in WTF? So then he asked if I was in pain well yes always but I manage most of the time with that so he showed me all these strains that were high in THC for pain well yea if you are stoned the pain is diminished DUH ! I am looking for nerve damage medication so I am competing with somebody that wants to get high and they are steering the market that way exclusively. BLOOM IS NOT MY ADVOCATE BUT THE OPPOSITE.

I don't mean to offend but we need to consider who and what is behind new legislation. If you take it away from Medical to a Liquor tobacco sin tax. I don't think my need to medicate is a SIN.

I did my duty as a soldier when they called me. I have taken responsibility for myself and all that I brought into this world. I have paid my taxes and helped my neighbors when needed. I am now disabled and a senior. If my last challenge to repression of rights is from a wheel chair well I guess I have something to live for I will not be paying unfunded and undisclosed retirement obligations for state employees to medicate. The Monies going to the Liquor board go to the general fund. I have already been the cash cow for the government.

I believe AZ is messed up generally when it comes to many of its laws and i agree that the tax base is way out of whack. An example is that Arizona did not include a conversion factor for oils, concentrates, or edibles in the original MMJ law....a major oversight.

Legalization is near I believe. In 2016 much of this will have to be worked over again, just like Washington and Colorado are doing. Regardless of what happens, once legal many yards will bloom and dispensaries will die or mutate into something else.

In fact, Arizona has every single climate zone from arid low land dessert land all the way up to Alpine, mtn peaks, every zone except Tundra!

Arizona, also has the largest sinlgle swath/stand of pine tress in the world other than northern Russia forest of the Ural/Siberia

Yes Apache, one of my favorite mountains is the Chiricahua's the northern most of the Sierra Madre MTN's in Mexico. This place in fantastic I seen some scat that you amaze you on the Monty Vista trail from rock creek canyon just around Cochise head I seen a scat with a complete Horse nose in it non touched by chewing, You know if an animal eats a priclky pear fruit going in and comin out it has to hurt and I would be pissed too. I know every inch of these mountains and Hachucha Mtn's Grahams Gila's. This region has the Mexican fan tail deer stand about 30" high and is about half the size of a Coo's doe. the only area in the US with a native parrott twin spotted rattler I stood on one once on the Cima Cabin trail. over looking Winn falls. I didn't know it wind was going and my son told me I was standing on him. looked down saw 9 of the cuties tiny rattles you ever saw but he was like 8 inches long. I hope he recovered. I still eat a Prickly Pear fruit and skin the pads for roast but if you don't have a fire for burning the needles life wont be good. LOL

Good points, Madjag. Eventually, no matter how the laws shake out, the cops and the courts are going to lose interest in prosecuting people for small amounts of herb. The laws will still be on the books, but like littering, will seldom be enforced.

They need to use the same standard when testing for pot use in the workforce. When you get tested for alcohol, it is for being impaired at the time of the test, not that you had a drink 30 days previously. The same standard needs to be applied to pot. I can smoke some weed over the weekend and be fine at work Monday morning. Much better, in fact, than if I drank a lot the night before and am suffering from a bad hangover. There is nothing safe about working with a hangover, although I have done it many times, since I refuse to miss work due to my own stupidity.

You think legalization is going to help in AZ. proposed $50.00 an ounce tax. So if you are caught with 7 plants in you back yard 6 of them Dixie cup clones and a small mother. You are now in violation of AZ tax laws and all your assets can be confiscated and will. this is before any chance of appeal. While the criminal code of driving while impaired was ruled upon by the AZ Supreme court. It has no bearing on how the title 28 driving code will be implemented. It is all possible that the DMV will set their rules and standards for driving with cannabinoids in your system.

If taken whole out of the medical realm it goes over to state bureaucrat regulators

If this passes I will go back to the black-market for my needs I will not be paying some socalled expert grower how for years made a living off of those who supported them to have them be tax collectors for the king.

We need to have medical concerns recognized and addressed prior to and beside legalization.

I think we all here have an interest in the USE of cannabis for our daily living. I also believe everyone here would like to control how and what they ingest for that. As time has played it's hand to me I can look back and see the wagers of life II played. In a moment of reflection I remember the times I have been jailed, accosted, ridiculed, banished, by family and society for the use of Cannabis. I remember my hippie days trying to sort things out in 72 and hitchhiking around the country from Communal farms in Merced CA. to being on a chain gang in Texas.

Each and every time I had some entity of some type say " I AM HERE AND I JUST WANT TO HELP YOU" This is a sign of the evil the Religious Pharisees.

So I became a member of the BAR specializing in property rights as that was the crux
I was protecting.( no longer a member) Became a project manager for several Army Corps of Eng. jobs over the years. As well as hundreds of state jobs water retention, Command battalion headquarters. Highways to mention a few. Health retired me 5 years ago now I sit and rant I thank you for reading and ask you indulgence.

We do need to be very careful on what is being proposed on legalization we need to look very closely at states like CA. CO. WA. I hope the voter in AZ know that the federal gov controls in one way or another 75% of the Land in AZ. This diminishes that tax base as compared to other states. Really the senators from NH.VT,MA have more control over the state than Jan Bewer the Gov. So subsequently the state is always clamoring for monies to meet it's obligations. It the state going to balance it books off the mentally ill the painful.

The real insult is the 6 plant proposed legislation lets not give this legitimacy. Just what other plant material is legislated by stalks in the ground? area of growth ok size of plants ok as long as it took in cubic area into account. I don't see where we could go and by clones really the only viable way to satisfy needs if doing a micro grow. I have a friend in a nursing home doing just that.

How can I support any dispensary that has game day specials, happy hour specials, Holiday specials? and anything associated with what they term as medical
