What's new

Garbage disposals, what's under your sink?

I'm in the market for a new unit (queue dick jokes)

no but seriously, I'm in the market for a new unit. (twice seriously? just immature)

So I was looking at this stainless steel one, it's a bit pricey, but well made. Looks kinda of baller for something I'll only see when I reach for a trash bag or a replacement sponge.

Then, there are the kinda of tried and true guys, the workhorses, although people are saying it's alot noiser and makes a click "sound" like metal gears interlocking that can mimic metal being crunched into the unit.

By the way, what kind of horsepower is your unit packing? (Oh man, I mean, damn.....)

1st question.... is this for daily home use.... or specifically to grind up weed stalks?

both, but keep in mind, if we are talking a huge difference in performance, like you were asking me to choose between a unit that can grind up stalks and I can get reasonably, or dropping more money and getting a commercial one, I have a work around.

I can strip the trees down to stalks, being that the leaves are the largest concern. Stalks, not a big deal, I have no issues tossing those in my commercial lot, but the leaves I'd like to grind them down.

So, yeah, that lol. Thanks in advance by the way, appreciate it.

I hope you know not to use a garbage disposal with a septic system, you are on city sewer, right?

Indeed, but good looking out.

If I did live somewhere with a septic system then I would just compost and walk around most of the day with bare feet, whistling billy joel.

Might get stuck with a needle if you walked around here like that :)

That's what I'm probably going to go with then. Did you get the 1/2 or 3/4 hp model?

3/4 hp seemed to be the point of diminished returns, well worth the price difference. 1 hp would be extravagance.

I reworked the kitchen entirely in this house when we bought it 22 years ago. Part of that was a 3/4 hp Insinkerator model 555ss, the precursor to the current 3/4 hp model. We raised 2 children with it & it's still going strong. 10 years ago, we built an addition, part of that being another kitchen sink in more of a utility setting. It had their badger 1/2 hp model which didn't get used much, locked up some years ago because my lovely spouse insisted on leaving it full of houseplant debris. Such is love. It now has the 3/4 hp model you reference & I make a point of running it regularly. You know, just in case. The duty cycle is still abusive & it regularly munches up all kinds of plant debris.

It's worth the money. Just buy it.
