Soil plants matured twice as fast as hydro

So i see everywhere that most people say that soil growing is a lot slower than hydro.

I wanted to try it for myself, i have two grows. I have a hydro and a soil grow. My hydro plants took about 6-7 weeks to show maturity as apposed to my soil plants only taking about 3 weeks veg time to show preflowers as well. Any idea why there was such a difference?

Based on my research i thought that it would be exactly opposite. If anyone has any info i appreciate it

Were some of the plants better feed that the others? Are you talking about same strain in both grows? Did any of them received better light?

Hydro will often show faster growth rates, but this has nothing to do with maturity or sexing.
Plants from seed will vary even if it is the same strain. Different phenos of the same strain will perform differently in the same or various environments.

Also in flower, a 70 day strain will still take 70 days in hydro, but it will likely be larger and produce more than the same strain in soil, with all other things being equal.

Love to see this, never heard or seen this...
Why the experiment when there are many studies?
What do you hope to conclude?

peace.

Hydro was under a 600w air cooled metal halide and the soil are under an 8 bulb 4' t5 fixture, hydro is fed with general hydro and soil plants are all organic

I didnt mean to make it an experiment at all i grow soil for myself and i was just curious as to why I saw the maturity almost twice as quick in soil.

pics or it didn't happen

:)

Hey man, im just asking a few questions lol dont have pics of my hydro plants cuz they're half way through fllower and what justice would pics of the soil plants do? Any jackass could still say they were whatever days old they wanted them to be? Just looking for some advice mane if you dont have any or you dont have anything productive to add to the thread im not quite sure why youre here, smoke one brotha

Man, if you managed to beat the 600w MH with 8 t5's, then clearly your problem is on the hidro growing part. I bet the 8 x t5 bulbs take about half the electricity the MH takes, so your hidro plants should look way better.

Sort of what I was thinking.

People do Godzilla-Great grows in Soil and hydro.

I switched to soil while growing a Sativa-dominant plant that I called G-Shak, short of some of the ancestors (AK47 x Ice Princess, Shiskaberry x HP Kush (a BC strain)).

From Ebb-and-Flow with GH nutes, to a custom composted soil mixture. The difference I noticed was not faster yields, but bigger buds and healthier plants.

Then again, I may have been a little sloppy with my hydroponics. Not measuring EC, for example.

I think, there is a difference if one of the medium's is 'done' in-correctly.

But I think you can get the plant to its full potential, or close to, in either category of medium.

I say category of medium, because there are almost as many mixes as there are growers. Some people supplement FFOF (Ocean Forest), some don't. Some use Bokashi ... etc. etc.

Thats exactly what i was thinking man, and yes you're correct, close to exactly half of the power of the 600 watter. Heres the thing though, when i started this thread i was talking about maturity. As far as SIZE and HEALTH go, the hydro towers the soil plants BUT they are just about equally as healthy (as far as deficiencies, root rot, etc. go). I just didnt get how the hydro was bigger but took longer to mature, and the soil girls were about 3/4s the size of the hydro plants but matured in a few weeks..hmm. I can almost say i like soil growing more though , so simple, and the plants love it! Thanks exploziv

Thanks for the detailed response RoadRash! That makes two of us lol sometimes i slack or get a lil too stoned and forget to measure ph / ec and all that but my plants seem to still be healthy, like i told exploziv i am leaning more towards traditional soil growing. Would you agree? Considering you have experience with both

im going guess since it was from seed that is why you saw so much variation.

It was from seed but there wasnt so much variation, the soil plants (6 plants total 4 different strains) all matured and showed preflowers within the same couple of days.

The hydro, on the other hand, had 3 plants all different strains and all showed maturity within the same week, So not to much variation among each other in the mediums but more of a variation between the two mediums. Thanks Curbie

if ur going to do tests.. do tests with all the same equipment.. lights.. environment.. and clones.. not seed.. some seeds might be faster then others.. most side by sides should be done with a stable clone.
