I'll say this about Tuck, it was genius naming it Herijuana.
It became a mystique strain, and I chased that narcotic buzz a few times over the last decade, buying directly from Tuck thru to S a n n i e's gear.
I'll probably grow my f3's @ some point, but the DC/Heri cross I made is of much more interest to me. :)

Good to see you posting again Tom.
30years, thx for your take. I always heard grumblings about how Tuck stole the Trainwreck and crossed it w/ an Affie. He'd always throw a pk. of those in as a freebie.
It was a frustrating crapshoot dealing w/ Hillbilly Dreams, that much I know.

I hear ya Tom - any more, I'd say that. Back then - eh, I was still pretty fresh to growing.

I only had a few grows under my belt and I was just glad to be given something as opposed to having to buy more. I hadn't even tried cloning at that point, if I remember correctly. This was eh, about 10 years ago now...

Tells you how much more I still have to learn. ;)

tuck was here for a few years and did leave on bad terms with many. soma in the same boat too. my dealings with steve were straight enough. not sure if tom hill is calling steve a clown or me a clown for chiming in on this story. i knew the petrolia crew and i knew tuck. first person take on this story so i don't need to ask a neighbor or a friend about it.

Steve Tuck was responsible for breeding zilch. Herijuana, like Trainwreck & Magic Carpet, was a clone Steve acquired in California and took hybrid seed of up to British Columbia in 2002. The extent of his work with these strains doesn't go beyond marketing & distribution, which to be fair by today's standards I suppose qualifies him as a breeder. :artist:

I have zero doubt he sold Emery and his lackies, prairieboy included(Hi Charles!), the world in seed form. Tuck was an artist at telling the right audience the right message, a carpet bagger from Kentucky who's burned a trail everywhere he's gone including but not limited to: HumCo, Overgrow, Legends, B.C., Oregon, and Los Angeles. If there is even a remote inkling of doubt about his credibility, I direct you to YouTube and invite you to watch his videos.

If you've grown genetics that you've enjoyed from Steve Tuck; great, who you really have to thank are the growers and patients he traded with or swindled. Again, in this sense he doesn't differ all that much from majority of breeders today, except for his gear comes with amplified authenticity issues to put it mildly. If its good herb, more power to you, been a lot of that going around in California. As for hanging your hat on any info that's came from that mans mouth or keyboard, good luck with that.*

For the record, I too, knew Steve personally and quite honestly he always did square by me. For me to turn a blind eye, however, to all the lies and stunts he's perpetrated throughout the years wouldn't be prudent. From time-to-time I'll read him or his 'work' being commemorated online and it's just a shame, or joke rather, how little our communities care or remember. What's not to be taken away here is the fact Steve was indeed a legitimate medical patient, however as you might sense any empathy generally extended to those with medical needs was lost in short order due to his antics.*

I sure wish cannabis world was still up and running so everyone could see what a fool tuck made of himself there after someone posted an outdoor run of herijuana... lol not a plant looked even remotely related to the next. Tuck had a junkie fit and started accusing legends of selling fake "hillbilly seeds" and breeder steve of producing them.. meanwhile the grower had stated from the start that he bought them directly from tuck in vancouver... Did have some pretty nice looking phenos but the idea that any breeding went into it seemed pretty unlikely. Toms version seems more believable.. a male from an unworked seed line hit up to an elite cut.

A lot of opiates will do that to you.

To clarify, I'm not here to condemn the man, only his actions. It's 2014 and about high time these truth(s) start washing out before they're buried beneath the sands of time.

Tuck was crossing everything he could get his hands on at that time. He had gotten into the first Humboldt cannabis club in Arcata as a cultivation expert and from there met a lot of the older locals. I was a member. Dr mikuriya was there all the time hanging out. This would have been 98-99 latest.
There were tons of lines that had been held for years pre purp that he was trading for. He was in a wheel chair pretty much solid at that point so he had a group of helpers who did the actual work. He somehow rose from the chair years later but he was pretty much wheel chair bound at that point.
I'm not here to defend the guy. I just know from standing in his house that he was working a line he got from petrolia- I know we gonna call it bag seed just like chem is bag seed...against stock he had brought with him. There was a few different families from that area that gave him old school killer stock. Many believed that the euro lines were more marketable from the known name but we know better now sadly enough.
Steve had a solid genetics collection that he brought with him to Humboldt. I know from sitting in the room and looking at the varieties. It made trading attractive to the locals who wanted the euro genes that Steve had a lot of. What ever shit he pulled doesn't change those facts.

Not everyone from Kentucky is like that...just the inbred ones:) fwiw..killer new haven is still around in Kentucky, as well as the herijuana. I have an affie that was over 30 years old when I started growing it 7 or 8 years ago. I am not for sure but I have a feeling it may be the affie that was used in the cross. Not super resiny but an absolute day wrecker. After trying my hand at dozens of strains over the years, it's still my strongest indie...by far. Most of my friends like the sweet tooth, c99 or satori better because of taste but the old heads that like indica always ask to smoke the ghanni. I firmly believe what Tom has said BUT..The herijuana I tried was really stout regardless of what it is made of or by whom.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of backward ass people in this state. But, certainly not everyone. Take me for instance.
All kidding aside, I know the Heri is here because she's passed through my circle on the regular. Grown her from seed(tuck, woodhorse, & ******), smoked her, past cuts of my own selections to good peeps. If the real deal KNH is still around and being grown down in central KY. I sure as hell can't find her. I've had my friends in Bardstown making inquiries for years with other growers from there down through New Haven. NADA! "Tightly held" would be an understatement.

Oh well...guess the 10 year old PH beans a friend is growing out are worthless. Hopefully this plant is not a waste of space...

The Herat is definitely showing promise though. If that keeps shaping up will put up a pic somewhere. Terepene profile from that girl in early flower is pretty awesome!

Tom,
Do you know what part of Afghanistan the deep chunk originated? Was it from Kandahar, Mazari region, the south or Kashmere region. Or somewhere else? The lapis mountain Indica I have going is looking nice. It's a deep chunk cross. Wanted to get the pure deep chunk but found it hard to obtain. Did use to get an old afghan skunk bud that was awesome to say the least. Sure wish it was still around. However did acquire an old 30 year afghan line that smells like lemon pledge. She is growing more like a sativa than an indica but sativa's are still found in that part of the world. Known as Willy's 30 year afghan. Cannot stop smelling her greatness.

trainwreck etc

trainwreck etc

Hey 30 years cool info. I tried out several of tucks offerings back in the day, the herijauna was a dud for me, the standout was in fact the trainwreck freebies so thanks for hooking Steve up with that one.
Ive kept that one going and it comes out very consistent and vigorous and even here in bc makes for a good albeit late harvesting outdoor variety. I even bred it to toms deep chunk at one point which seriously made a great hybrid (thanks tom).

Ive got a swamp grow going this year with a whack of those trainwrecks so will post my results along with my deep Congo bx1 * f1

Last of it I had was on Howardstown rd..almost to raywick. I doubt I could get a cut of it now, but it is still around. Had a buddy near Owensboro that scored some recently. ..He tried to buy a cut but no dice.

Aah, Raywick. I often wondered if the KNH had originated from some of the strains that the "Cornbread Mafia" were responsible for. Wish I could sit down with Johnny or find out the identity of Mr. X. Would love to pick their brains about some of what they were farming and all the places X collected his stock from. Can you imagine the stories they could tell? :joint:
