When Philip Seymour Hoffman OD'ed a few months ago, I decided to watch all his movies in a row... starting with his first and proceeding to his last. I'm still not close to finished. After watching "Capote" tonight, I am again astounded at the range this guy had in his acting ability.

So many actors, many very good one's, are quite one dimensional when it comes to their character portrayals. From one movie to the next, their inner self shines through, and even when they are giving a killer performance you still know its them acting the part. An actor of Hoffman's ability and range is rare, and he was absolutely a national treasure. I feel the need to put together a little example of his roles that illustrate his incredible range.

I know that many could give 2 shits about this........if so, just move along, pay no heed. But if you are into good acting, take a few minutes to watch the 4 clips I'm going to post of PSH acting.

As Brad, in The Big Lebowski:

As Dean Trumbell, in Punch Drunk Love:

As Lester Bangs, in Almost Famous:

And, last but not least, as Truman Capote in Capote (won Oscar, best male lead):

Could continue on and on, but these 4 paint a nice picture of his talent.

Anybody NOT seen the movie "Dead Man" by Jim Jarmusch? Just saw that it is streaming on Netflix, I found it looking through the cult movie section but you can just type the title into the search box.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Shot in beautiful B&W, in the old growth forests of the PNW. Incredible cast (mentioned in the trailer below), and equally incredible soundtrack written and performed by Neil Young. I believe it is considered to be a "psychedelic western."
