Reasonable Priced Home Security Ideas

I found these on Amazon..can likely be bought elsewhere also...might just be the ticket for poor folks...I saw one that worked on Magic Jack also for an internet system

Likely there is more stuff but these seemed enough for a cheap system that calls YOU instead of the cops. If you try these, be sure and test them. You might have to watch how they are pointed and might have to disable it when you get home but hell!

What about it? This will work in a no dog house or apt....and much cheaper...

ever since i was robbed.. i have cameras indoors and out.. i have window alarms.. door alarms.. 3 safes 2 hidden and anchored into the studs. 1 in the open with nothing in it really a zip.. so that if someone tries to rob me.. they can think they got away with MY SAFE.. and really.. they get away with maybe a zip of nugs and a bunch of stupid shit lol.. umm we got those things u put under the door handles.. so if someone tries to kick in your door.. it gives u like an extra 20 seconds to a few minutes to get up and READY .. we have 2 pitbulls.. driveway sensors... and reinforced doors and windows on ground level to make it harder to get in.. put it this way.. if i locked myself out.. id have a REAL tough time getting back in..

i found out the hardway.. that my seed stock was worth more then anything.. and my clones were worth even more.. and losing all that 1 time.. ill never let it happen.. i even went as far as to take EVERY SINGLE STRAIN ive made or bought.. i take half the seeds.. and put them at a family members house in tiny dorm room fridge so i dont lose all my shit if it happens again.

when u lose everything. u realize spending 1-2 grand on security is a very good investment.. i dont have my alarms setup to call anyone .. it sends me a text and an email when the motion detector is activated.. as well as if any windows or doors are opened when im not home.. its worth EVERY PENNY.

Useful thread even if the phone thing wasn't all that great; especially for small or personal growers with no massive budget for security.

Blue Iris is a free to try monitoring program (you can try it indefinitely but it only costs $50) that will send motion alerts by text, email, or even with some doing call your phone and then you're logged in viewing your live cameras, recorded motion, and activating the audio and mics to listen and speak to the "intruder" right from your mobile app or any web browser. If someone is on your porch you can talk to them thru the video on your cellphone. Hook up a couple $5 webcams up to get started and then you piece it together as you get money.

I've got webcams, IP cams, and a CCTV camera all working on it presently, and one of the webcams is a Yawcam stream from another computer on my lan. Very versatile.

For Linux check out Zoneminder which is a free program. Not as feature rich or idiot friendly as Blue Iris so I put Windows 7 back on the box and went back to Blue Iris.

I work very hard on home security because I know how bad I would feel if there were an incident.

Once I was at the hardware store, and got to talking with a window contractor about his work patching up after burglaries. Other people joined in, and it became like an User Group club meeting.

For me, it's sort of a favorite subject. I don't think you can take it too seriously.

One way of looking at it is from the view-point of stress management. Knowing how stressed out you would be after a burglary or a grow-rip. So you work to avoid that.

One of the things I like about shotguns is, aiming is relatively easy.

One of the things I don't like about shotguns is, THEY'RE SO LOUD.

Funny how perspectives are different. Here in Denver, I'd call the cops.

Yeppers. Being legal is beyond cool, almost incomprehensible.

Even here, stealth is still the best security, along with the usual sort of ironwork & other obvious signs of homeowner concern. Lighting is good. Don't look like an easy victim. Not everybody gets to do that.

Firearms? No thanks.I see 'em as more of a liability than an asset. YMMV, of course.

Who would I have it call? Why me of course, then I can call one of my friends a couple of blocks away to go by and get me some info and pics and maybe confront the bastards...sure, this is likely for a small grower or just apartment security but what the hey..it wasn't supposed to cover Ft. Knox..

By the way, since one of my neighbors got robbed in daylight, we figured out that a strange guy who walked his small dogs a few times a day for a couple of weeks and has since disappeared likely was the spotter for the rip team....might have had an inside source also...he was brazen and acted strange...

even just making it impossible to get into windows helps alot.. duct tape them so u need to pry them open. and strong duct tape will hold anyone off for a decent amount of time.. just try diff things.. even 2x4s across windows with curtains in windows.. will cause it so no1 can actually climb threw

BTW, consider incorporating "powerline networking" devices into your scheme--they work.

Powerline Networking

It seems like every device requires an internet connection. Many electronic items from televisions to game consoles require a web signal to reach the device's true potential. Unfortunately not every home has Wi-Fi available and not every room has a phone jack, limiting the number of gadgets that can access the internet.

It can be expensive and time consuming to run additional ethernet cables through walls so each device has access to the internet. A powerline adapter could be the cost-effective solution homeowners are looking for to make their web connection available all over their house.

An internet connection can be shared via existing wires with powerline networking. Simply plugging an adapter into an outlet near the web signal's origin point and then putting additional adapters in other rooms allows homeowners to bring web access to their entire house.

For example, if an internet router is in the kitchen it wouldn't be possible to go online in any other room via a wired connection. A power adapter basically turns an outlet into an internet router so you can play video games online in your bedroom.

Every room has an electrical outlet, but phone jacks are probably in one or two places. These adapters create a whole new network in a home without running wires all through a residence. This could be convenient to consumers who move frequently, like college students, and don't want to pay for an installation that they won't use for too long.

Powerline networking allows consumers to make the most of every device that can access web content. Instead of paying for an expensive wireless connection from an internet provider, shoppers can install the adapters themselves and enjoy all the best features of their favorite gadgets.

Real affordable! http://www.newegg.com/Powerline-Networking/SubCategory/ID-294

Cheers!

Power line adapters solves a huge problem for me and I am kind of mad at myself for having forgot all about that tech. Thanks!

A few motion detector lights modded hooked in synch placed in different angels/spots trained on a specific area where the intruder would stand. Then get creative with whatever you want to happen to the person in the fun zone. Maybe a strobe light, tug boat horn/high decible siren, offical looking red spiner light, and a home made pepper bomb( best psi aquarium pump with intake fed from a container of habenaro extraction through to a nozzle placed right) to spray the hell out of them. Also a stereo with some rob zombie turned all the way up with a voice dubbed on saying you will fucking die playing over and over. An out let with the fixtures, cords, and stuff or just go to the local pound and get an unwanted dog that looks the part. Cool bonus is you get a pal.

Read this on a review on amazon of this product http://www.amazon.com/Armor-Concept...orcing/dp/B004TSOOCE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

"Home security is multi tiered in my opinion. The first is to harden the house with physical barriers such as a strong steel or solid core wood door with door armor. The windows could have bars on them, tapco security screens, the security film, lock the windows. Install better locks on the doors too. In my opinion door armor is more effective than a high quality lock because most criminals are just thugs who would kick in the door and not trained in lock picking. But still after you get door armor research grade 1 locks for your home. You may have a piece of crap grade 3 lock on your house.
After hardening the windows and doors then think of passive security measures like: motion lights, alarm system, ccd surveillance system, thorny bushes near house windows, trim bushes and lawn so as not to provide cover for an intruder.
Ultimately in my opinon a DOG is the greatest home security piece of equipment because it will sense trouble long before you will hear it, before an alarm goes off, it can attack, it can be a a deterrent, it can be a distraction in a fire fight to where the dog takes the brunt of the attack first. For me I can not get a dog because my GF and I have 3 cats and it is enough animals already.
Aside from door armor get a gun, pepper spray hidden in every room, guns and knives concealed in every room, and be alert and aware when you are outisde of your home. Obviously if u have kids you may have to rethink the guns and knives everywhere but pepper spray is a good alternative. Also the hardware is good such as guns, alarms and weapons etc. But for security you need to train and develop your own skills and be alert to potential dangers and be ready to fight."
