Did this one before a coupla years ago. I'm pretty sure even more sisters and brothers have gone the A/C route since then.
So, with the warm...ish months approaching, lets see who's got what and why, how much it costs and if it's worth the cost and effort.

Yep no more worries weather wise for me my friend, I got a split 12000 BTU system as it cools the room with ease, its cost friendly, I can set them on a timer with the lights and it does not chuck out hot smelly air so only needs a 3" hole in the soffits to pass the hoses out. I just set the temp plugging both units into the light contactor and jobs a gooden. Cost was about £450 fitting was about £100 as needed copper pipe and hose extending. The only PITA bit was having to strip the room completely and make it look like it was going to be a spare bedroom to have a proper A/C guy install it. Deffo well worth the effort mate.

hiya,,harry,,i have a totally useless mobile air con unit,,,,brings it down 2deg at the most,,,noisy bastard thing as well,,now kept in our bedroom,,,not allowed to have one fitted as building is listed,,conservation area, etc, blah, blah,,,
i would have one fitted in a nanosecond if I could,,still moving next year,,,,
when it gets hot this year I am gonna run maybe two lamps and having to use a reducer to bring duct size down to 10 inch and a splitter ,so I can place the lengths of ducting close to both lamps and let the over-powered exhaust do the rest,,,s2:tiphat:

yup ive been looking at the same thing.. you can see the db rating on portable air cons. the average extractor fan is about 55 db, you can get air cons for around the same. its fine if you can fit in a permanent split system but its not always an option

Hey bro, Yep I have a Toshiba unit mounted on brackets on the outside wall on a/c anti vibration pads, then a hose and copper piping joins to the inside unit, the hose takes the drain water out. The only noise is when the compressor kicks in but its not very frequent and having those anti vibration A/C mats make all the difference so if your going to do it make sure you buy some as the rubber feet are shit.

If I was using a portable unit, I'd try and have it in a separate room to the grow, and intake from that room into the grow. That way the noise ain't in your grow and it doesn't have to struggle to cool the hot grow room, but ensures a constant intake of cooled air.

Peace

The outside wall unit would give the game right away round here. The only place that has aircon round here is fookin ASDA.
The boat ACs look good though, water cooled. If you're not on a meter and don't have any ethical problem with pouring so much potable water down the drain it costs almost exactly fuck all to run one.
Growell are selling a water cooled AC system. Spendy though

I was thinking it might raise suspicion as well but then it could be used for house and general ailments in children or adults needing certain conditions in their rooms / houses. Most suspicion comes from the growers as we know why we are using it but most people might just think "snooty gits can afford aircon lucky barstewards". lol How many people have ceiling fans trying to cool them down and wish they had a/c? Guess you could paint the outside units stealth black and hang a sign on saying nothing to see here folks. ;)

^^ Bloody bargain mate and no need for an ac bloke as long as the pipes do not need extending :)

There was someone built a DIY water cooled setup at TJ21minus1 (super secret code to get around the site name being edited) and I know rocky mountain squid has/had a diy water cooling setup.

I think those "Ice box" things that were popular in the states would be useful for our potentially hot 2 months of the year. Those plus a really big res.

I like Herbs one for it's DIY fit up but then FOGs is cool cause there's so little outside.

I was fascinated by those water cooled ones when they first came out til I realised for my room I'd be using literally thousands of litres per day.

This is what I meant about being able to do it in good conscience. I'm not on a meter, so the water would cost me nothing, but when there's kids dying every day because they've only got filthy water to drink, I'd feel a right wanker sending all that down the gurgler every day.

I'm with you all the way Harry.

I'm not on a meter either but I'm not on mains drainage so even without the waste issue just getting rid would become a problem.
