planted a couple Gorilla GLues and a Hardcore OG today in the 400's, outside with no supp lighting. if they start to flower we will pull them and replace them. :woohoo:

The seed plants are doing well too for the most part. Everything is coming together, but we still need the rest of our soil. We also need to get mulch and shadecloth this year because of the intense sun.

Dang this is awesome. I am trying to catch up with it all. The picture of the same strain grown soil vs. coco is eye opening! I am going to buy some coco today from a local hydroponics store that sells it in the for of coir bricks. Is this what I want? I have seen it sold in a standard soil bag (like Black Gold or Ocean Forest), and I have seen it sold in these coir bricks. I am guessing I want the bricks for ease of transport and cost efficiency.

What are benefits and downside to mixing soil with coco? Is it better to pick just one or the other?

Things look great and I could learn a lot here, thanks for this awesome outdoor thread. :woohoo:

^you doing any shade cloth this year ?
I have a feeling its gonna be hotter than last year cuz we had such a weak winter

We are planning on it.

I wouldn't... Straw bales are cheap and easy to find.

I was originally thinking this until I read...

id skip the foxtails they will seed your pots up tough. and I've used hay in the past, its the cheapest way to go but if you have the $$ mulch is the absolute best. hay is full of pathogens that can contribute to root rot, mildew, fusarium and it doesn't allow the soil the breathe as good as mulch. last year some bundles of hay i bought were totally filled with PM, ended up throwing it all out.

We aren't planning on using the foxtails for exactly that reason. There is tons of mulch around, but it's well guarded by poison oak. Thinking of using some of the leaves below the bigger trees on the property.

Awesome spread!

Is that a Rhodie? Looks like one if not.

Thanks man, It's a nice place to be. Not a Rhodie, but even the Vets say that about her. She's half Pit, and half Rott.

O Fuck yea! Bad ass! What's the plan for deer fence I see you got some t post in the ground.

No plan as of this year, abandoned from last year. We'll probably get around to it once we aren't putting funds elsewhere.

I looked up Elemental Seeds and they have an incredibly basic website with hardly any info on it other than the address for the wellness center.
Was interested in the Peach Dream myself.

i copied my post from the big plants thread, hoping i can get an answer somewhere:

we are ordering our soil on monday and i'm still trying to decide on a final mix. We copied Boobs' mix of equal parts (1/3) lava rock, peat, and compost

The soil place doesn't have diestel compost for another 2 weeks, so I am trying to decide between another compost that is chicken manure and rice hulls, or EWC which is probably more expensive. What should we go with?

also i cut the amendments from boobs' mix in half because we dont' have time to let the soil cook. Good idea? The only amendment they don't have is neem meal, so we either have to do without, or buy it ourselves and bring it to the soil mixing place. is it worth it to get the neem meal?

anybody with some knowledge could answer any of those questions i would really appreciate it. thanks !

here is the original recipe:
originally posted by Boobs:
30% sphagnum peat
30% lava rock
30% high quality compost
10% top soil, this you may or may not do, if you're going to have it mixed at a place then this'll probably have to be screened to filter out rocks, I'd contact whatever place you find about this.

for amendments we went with:

1/2 cup neem meal, neemresource.com
1/2 cup kelp meal, Down-to-earth
1/2 cup crab meal, Down-to-earth
1/2 cup gypsum
1/2 cup oyster shell flour

4 cup rock dust, contact thomas vanacore at rockdustlocal, he knows a good hookup for rock dust in california.

that's the amounts per cubic foot, there are 27 cubic feet in a yard.

if you're on a tight budget you can use karanja meal which is slightly cheaper than neem and also probably cut back the rock dust to 2 cups/cu ft. "

Having your concrete mesh in the pot is working well for you? It just looks so tall. Are you going to do another around the pot also? For when the girls stretch out

We are halfway done planting. Not finished until next week. The gorilla glues definitely love the outdoors, and they are already comfortable in the big pots. i never knew but it's so much easier to make the transition when they are vegged under the sun instead of indoors.

the cages in the pots are great, but yeah we are definitely going to need more support when the plants grow. probably bigger cages or netting.

hey shcrews I would add steamed bone meal 0-20-0 (also high in Calcium) or some high phos bat guano 0-8-1 with that recipe because im not seeing any good source of phos in the boobs mix.
Are you able to find mushroom compost near you ? I get my mushroom compost @ $35/yard and i mix it in the top layer. Mushroom compost has chicken manure, gypsum and gives you decent amounts of nitrogen and loads of beneficial bacteria. Feather meal 12-0-0 is another cheap option for Nitrogen. Most importantly I would definately add earthworm castings.

have any of your clones that you put outside, pre-flowering?

not yet, but a porch light nearby might be keeping them in veg. just realized it last night. The Cherry Pies and Gorilla Glues that we left outside are in full veg mode

A couple gorilla glues went into 400's a couple days ago. The real test is if they start to flower. Our supplemental lighting was only adding an hour of light so they may be fine without it, especially since the days are still getting longer.

We finally ordered our soil!

final recipe:
1/3 lava pumice (5/16 inch)
1/3 peat
1/3 compost blend with chicken manure, rice hulls, EWC, and some other stuff

plus, approximate per yard:

4 pounds Kelp meal
3.5 pounds Crab meal
4 pounds Gypsum
4 pounds Oyster flour
25 pounds Glacial rock dust

Came out to about $125 per yard including mixing and trucking. We are trying to find about 200lbs of neem meal to mix in ourselves because the soil place was sold out. anybody know anywhere in Cali with neem meal instock?
