Get Baked and Go Fishing

Finally had a day off yesterday and went out fishing on my lake. Bite was decent for me but my brother got frustrated and left early. They are still killing the smaller bait fish so I have had the best luck with the 1.0 KVD square bill crankers and plastics, mainly wacky rig and texas rig. Caught a 3 lb 4oz bass, water temps in the low to mid 80s. Man they are starting to fight hard. :)

Got out for the last couple hours of the day last night.
As the thread title says, I got baked and went fishing. A nice fat jay of Ultra Sonja did the trick.

It was a glorious evening. Not much wind and a fairly calm sea.

Used a yellow Bomber with a small Powerbait minnow teaser up front.

Caught a small bass on the Bomber lure. Not too many big ones around yet. This little guy immediately went back in the water. They need to be about three times as large to keep.

Also caught a couple of shad on the Powerbait teaser which I kept and froze to use as chunk bait in a couple weeks when the big fish finally arrive.

All in all a great night. Would have enjoyed it just as much had I not caught anything.

Capt.Ahab, The fish scales are extremely sensitive to the touch. Human hands make them burn and "resting" on the sand burn also fish that has already received the hook in his mouth. Not to mention, the fish will still suffer from dry land when taking pictures.

I hate to sound like a pissed off, but still you have to train a little bit in that catch and release method. It may look fine when swim out, but often, after such an experience they rise to the surface and be the birds lunch.

No hard feelings, but I said only what I know to be true. :tiphat:

Do you know anything about striped bass? One tough fish. They are not a delicate little pansy assed trout or perch. They will beach themselves on the sand chasing bait then roll back into the water or wait on the sand for the next wave to bring them back in. A little bit of sand doesnt bother a striper.
As for taking photos, well it took me about 5 seconds before it went back in. I suppose I could kick it back in the water without touching it. Would that make you feel better?
The shad ended up whole in the freezer for future cut bait. The sand or photos were the least of their problems.

It sounds to me that if some ones fish is becoming lunch for the birds it is THEY that need some fine tuning on their catch and release.

As Capt Ahab mentioned......strippers along with quite a bit of other species will beach themselves when the feed is on.Now why would a fish set itself on fire just for a pic nic on the sand??

LOL. Havent caught one of those while out fishing, lately.
Maybe Im using the wrong bait.
I hear you need to chum for them with dollar bills.

Striped Bass...strippers dance on poles...

Bite has been slow. More lake pressure has the bass moving around a lot. Wacky rig and Jigs have been working for me. Catching at least 2 fish in the short amount of time I have to fish(3 hours max).

Ahab, nice striped bass bro. Vegetarians don't know jack shit about fish, that's why they eat rabbit food...

Been smoking and going fishing all spring
Been catching lmb with Gary Yamamoto's Senkos, Texas rigged. Tryed out wacky style for the first time yesterday with an O ring and caught a nice 3 lber first cast. Then I ran out of time. Can't wait to try wacky style out agian. With the O ring there is no puncturing the plastic meaning the bait can catch multiple fish. Texas rigged a nice lmg destroys the plastic. Good day stayed stoned and go fishing.

One more day closer to bow season!

Hey guys boy did I miss out on this thread. I do a lot of saltwater fishing mostly as I live next to the coast. Flounder is the main target of choice. Right now I've been limiting out every time I hit the honey hole.

My spot is a shell reef that runs parallel to bank. Side closest to bank goes 2-3' before shell starts. That's usually where I start early. If I'm not limited out by then I'll fish the deeper side 5-8' and I'll hammer them there. I've been doing well with those new vudoo shrimp. Also gulp croaker in new penny or root beer.

Got a few 24" this year and a 26" flounder I caught in February, it was my best day of flounder fishing that day and lucky I brought my daughter. I would post more pics but most of them have my face lol.

I'm sorry that I answered a little stupidly. Like you said, I do not know Striped Bass properly. At Finnish lakes, the fishes require special care when fishing catch and release style. And sure, inland water fishes are more sensitive.

Yep.. sorry once again and tight lines man!
