Career possibilities in the world of legalized cannabis

There's some people in this thread that need to pack a bowl, relax, and lighten the hell up. Let's get the thread back to discussing things relating to cannabis careers.

Man, I wish I could rhyme.
By the way, the Yahoo article that you cited does not say anything about police officers checking the DNA of the product as you implied earlier.

What is interesting though, is that Uruguay will be using DNA profiling to track product beyond sale. When a policeman finds you with marijuana, they would be able to do a scan/test of it to see if that particular batch and strain came from a government-approved source.

As for greenhouses: you can read the MMPR Security Requirements, which will confirm my statement. As I wasn't asked to cite reference in that thread - I didn't.

You cannot use DNA testing on cannabis to check for foreign entities like bugs and mold, as they are extraneous from the composition of the cannabis itself and not part of the plant's DNA. I am sure there are viruses, diseases that could alter small parts of a plant's DNA over time and be tested for. DNA testing is expensive though, it isn't the sort of thing you would be doing on every plant in a crop to check for bugs and mold issues. If utilized, it would be on a breeding level to help in parent plant selection, creating hardy strains, etc.

what I meant is to detect for multiple unique dna in a sample, similar to how food (soy or corn for instance) is tested to screen for gmo contamination

A position that will be very important would be tester of new seed plants. Especially companies breeding programs looking for epic plants out of thousands. It will take skill to differentiate the best from the rest. The person testing herb will have a huge effect on the legal companies product lines. Most important would be quality of product, and the only way to judge that is to have an experienced connoisseur smoke it many times. Its sounds like an fun job, but in reality it would be a big challenge and your selections would change the way people judge the company. Skilled testers will be invaluable. In my opinion having a skilled taste and being able to discern the different effects strain to strain is what really makes a great breeder as well. Just on a large scale breeders will need testers to help with initial selections.

If a guy wanted to throw his hat into the possible job ring for Marijuana...Where would the best place to post a Resume.

I have almost 20 years experience growing Marijuana and have just been medically retired. I'm not ready to pack it in just yet, but there's no way I can work in construction anymore. So I figured I put my experiance to work for me. See if maybe I could work and make a few bucks extra to help the house hold out. And I must admit...It be a pretty cool job growing or working with Cannabis for a legal Producer.

So where would the best place be to post a Resume for working with Marijuana.

Thx ahead of time.
Peace...B

Hey Buddha!

I am on a bit of a job search myself, although more-so on the QA front. There are now MMJ jobs starting to pop up on some job sites, although I am finding most of them on indeed.ca. There are a few companies posting growing jobs there like this one:

http://www.agcareers.com/nhp-consul...Indeed&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=Indeed

You can also start visiting the sites of approved and prospective LPs as most have a career section where they are starting to list job postings.....I have seen a lot of companies looking for experienced growers. Good luck on the job search :)

Thanks for the direction!

I Hit on 95% of the requirements they were asking for, but I still wouldn't refer to myself as a Master Grower, by any means. I can grow a consistently good(above average) quality medicine(great is according to the buddy's...lol). I would have to say the great quality came more from the guys that could spend 24/7 in there rooms fussing over there plants. I worked full time and only had a limited time to spend with the Lady's. I tried my best to make as much as possible in my grow area automatic, that way I only had to do my maintenance most of the time...lol

But, I'm thinking...Maybe it will be possible to subsidize my pension with my Marijuana growing skills...Who would have ever thought it, not my Dad...lmfao!

No prob :) I have also seen postings for assistant growers and grow helpers where you wouldn't be asked to run and supervise a large commercial operation on your own......that was just the first one that popped up. Have a look on indeed.ca, I've seen 5-6 grower jobs posted at various locations across the country. With a little luck, there will be one setting up shop near you ;)

Fingers Crossed!:woohoo:...I have to get a resume put together and then I'm looking...Thanks again...:tiphat:

From what I have heard from people who are seeking out "gardening" jobs...unless your the master gardener...expect min-wage....same as if you were working in a Cuke greenhouse...

No reason to pay people more for watering plants....

This is simply not true. There are more than a few job postings already up for assistant growers that are offering $20+/hr. In huge commercial operations, they aren't going to pay the head grower 6 figures and then pay everyone else minimum wage. The head grower can't do everything themselves, and will need quality, knowledgeable growers working under them. These people do a LOT more than just water plants......

Here is just one example of a non-head grower job that is far from minimum wage. Min. $25/hr with full benefits too I might add:

Here are a couple more:

Even though these are not "master grower" positions, they still require people with botany/microbiology/plant science degrees, and years of experience working with MMJ. Likening these professionals and their salaries to people that just water cucumbers for a living is incorrect.......these are all professionals with credentials and years of school and experience behind them, not just people with a veggie garden in their backyard. If you are producing large batches of medicine that are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that need to pass all QA tests to be cleared for sale, are you really going to trust the proper care of the facility and crop to people making minimum wage? All it takes is one incompetent worker to put an entire operation at risk....these LPs aren't messing around, they are looking for the best people available.

Perhaps the exception to the rule. Numerous LP's have been hiring people at 12-15 an hour to tend plants. It's over min. wage, but it's still quite low. I'm not complaining, just saying...:peacock:
