so i found this info stumbling around the net... it apears that our very own greywolf had been reasearching it t0o and this is what i found:

apparently the mats absorb butane and swell in the presence of it. so "its like a butane sponge" they weighed the mat after spraying with plain butane and it was about 1/3 heavier than the untreated mat, meaning that the matt really did soak up butane.. makes me wonder because ive seen some really good stuff come off these mats and before i read the above link i thought i had everything there was to know about extracting and making good quality wax or shatter. of course there is always more you can learn but i had a good system down. and apparently parchment paper is even worse because its treated with a low grade silicone that again sponges up butane. as grey wolf mentioned in the link... what does the butane bring back out of the mat with it when purged? i am wondering if i am doing harm to my lungs/ body by using my oil slick mat. it would be kinda ironic to be extracting to get the most pure form of oil and it ends up being worse for you than just smoking flowers. i am a firm believer in smoking/ vaping the best buds and most pure oil i can find (potency) so i dont have to ingest as much to get the same, and most the time way stronger and more medicinal effects to its low potency counterparts. i wouldnt ay im a pot snob, im just in a good position and have almost 20 diff elite cuts that i have been circulating through. i need a variety. if i dont change things up i build up a tolerance quickly to certain strains. anyways i just thought this was an interesting read for anyone who uses the oil slick mats or buys oil made with the mats.
also one other point of interest. when using butane for extractions, stay away from the ones made in korea. some brands will have the exact same label but one is made in the uk and the other s. korea. uk has superior standards for the butane produced their so it is way cleaner than butane (even the same brand) made in korea. the uk versions are usually a dollar or so more. just be sure to look at the can to see where it was made. dont believe me? spray a bit of both on a mirror and you will see whats up.
peace
