Bo hasset- every substitution in there looks good, the only one I wouldn't know it's the gypsum.... definitely get some dolomite though..

Can I recommend LC's mix? Monetarily anyways..... one of our spots is roots/ffof/ewc with some mycos. Easy bag mix

why are you giving soil mix advice if you don't know what gypsum is or the effects of it? dolomite has a ratio of 2:1 Ca to Mg...

be careful who you listen to folks.

Hmm if only people were as quick to help as they are to hate here.

If you read the original post I was saying i wasnt sure about the question of a substitution of gypsum. Never used oyster shells.. but I'm taking a page out of B1's manual and saying GET THE DOLOMITE!!

Take v everything you read here with a grain of salt though.. even from the"guru's"

Maybe if someone else chimed in my pothead ass wouldn't be trying to help.

Looking real nice Backyard! Do you put mulch on those? Do you start off hand watering. Sweet setup.

Hey napalisherpa , thank you.

I do start off hand watering...it is key to get them established.

I put the worm farm mulch down last year..which after BioDigester and Spectrum turned in to just more compost.

I'm thinking about just using weed block with straw over it or black and white breathable silage tarp.

I read a study where they used the white side up and increased yield 27% in tomatoes.

Biotella for early season...the black absorbs heat and gets the soil going quicker. Non GMO corn starch product that veggie growers love.

Just how high is the EC on your main mix Backyard? I see some buffer Black and Gold fixin to happen

Really nice spot brah.

When i ran Tom's mix it tested at 70% Ca base cation saturation and 7% Mg...could maybe use a hair more Mg but does not really need it because of the tcec (even at 7% vs 12% there is plenty of Mg for the plant and leaving it alone allows the soil to be more open because of the deflocculating character of Mg).

The decision should really come down to pH in this case (I believe the reason Tom chose gypsum over dolomite in the first place). Unless you have a very low alkalinity water source you are going to be happier with gypsum...CaSO4, Calcium Sulfate.

Plus...and this is a big one, no one knows if bagged soil is gonna have the same composition from yr to yr. Test one from this yr and an old one...they are all over the map. So my test may mean zero anymore.

Get your soil tested and adjust from there or you are at the mercy of whatever the soil companies had laying around the day they bagged your soil.

I have been covering all my outdoor gardens and blackboxes with heavy duty weed mat for a couple of years now. We sweep the lanes weekly to remove collected dust and debris. Especially in the windier spots, it pays off bigtime in the final nug quality.

This year is going to be a weird one for outside endeavors. We won't even know if our garden is legal till June 4th when measure N is voted on. Kinda crazy. Can't believe this shit is still in flux. Helps to have heavily diversified income streams.

It's up this year from normal.

I put the neem seed meal and it made my soil go berserk.

Pretty much the best all purpose nutrient ...especially @ $0.95/lb.

I think one could do really well with a simple Nutri Rich 4-3-3 7% Ca , Neem Meal , Crab Meal , Rock Dusts , KMag

It's almost zip line weather....

The neem meal is fantastic, it's helped simplify things greatly, yanno? Get two birds stoned at once.

Neemresource.com - Ahimsa Neem, is where I get my neem meal and neem oil. Neem leaf powder is also great for fleas/ticks if you have dogs.
