Do you ph your coco when you charge it?

When I charge my coco, I add about 25% dose of veg food (head formula). Then when I check the ph it's usually real low like 5.2 or something. I didn't come across ph'ing the coco whenI read about it.

Do you ph it? If so to what ph?

I tried to ph it to 6.0 and it keeps going back down. I use silica. I gotta add a lot to bring it up and stable. Is it correct to do this?

Why your medium shouldn't have right pH? 5.8-6.3 is good for coco.

I'm not measuring runoff. It that when I'm mixing the charge solution I'm doing it in a 5.gallon bucket with the coco in it. Is that wrong? What's happening is I keep adjusting the ph and the coco keeps bringing it back down, so like the coco is really low ph I guess. I'm using roots coco, but it's happened with the cocotek bricks too.

So should I just expand the coco and then mix the solution separate and adjust the ph, and then put the coco in it and don't worry, or should I adjust it after the coco goes in? It just seems like the coco should be a good ph before I put the plants in, no?

Reason I'm asking is my plants are not looking so hot in the last batch so I think I messed something up. I just wanna make sure I do it right this time.

No, no, just plant your seedling or cutting in the pot with coco and then water it in with ph water, nutrient solution of 1.1 ec with added cal mag, that is all. You won't have any further issues.

Thanks so then I don't even need to charge my coco? That would be a whole lot easier it's a pain in the ass what I'm doing here. So I just wanna make sure I got it right. Expant coco with tap water, put plant in, then water with ph'ed food w xtra calmag and leave it alone? Thanks for the help.

Also, my roots aren'that developed with the coco they're in I guess because the ph is off, and they're a little yellowing in the new growth. They been in these pots for weeks and hardly any roots, they're no thirsty. I thought I was overwatering, so should I try to take out some of the old medium fro the roots before I transplant? Or just put it in a bigger pot and water to runoff? Kinda afraid I'm gonna drown them if I make it too wet without lots of roots? What would you do?

Ah, I didn't see your using compressed blocks. Your still right then but it's the same principle, charge with ph of 6.0 and ec 1.1 leave to stand for a few hours drain of excess water, plant up and then water in with the fresh solution.

I use canna bags of coco which are already fluffy not compressed.

Generally you should pot up With small pots with coco so they can dry out faster, this will increase oxygen to the rootball which makes roots grow very fast.

Ok so yeah good I been doing it ok then. But my last batch I reused some coco from my last harvest and mixed that with fresh coco, and didn't ph the old stuff just shook it out of the roots and mixed it in. So this time it's gonna be all fresh coco. Suck I thought you could reuse coco but I guess missed a step.

Oh that's gotd to know too so maybe I should shake out the old coco and use fresh coco in the same size container? So it's not in too big of a container? They're not really bb enough to go bigger pots but I was gonna anyway so as not to disturb the root system too much.

Yea. You can reuse coco but you should really flush it we'll with a low e.c solution before you reuse it due to accumulation of salts within the used coco.

No you don't try adjusting ph with the coco in the bucket:biggrin: Here is the way I do it.
1) Break pieces off the block and place them in a bucket filled 2/3 full of fresh water.
2) After coco expands and is soaked pour mixture into another bucket that has a LOT of holes drilled in bottom and let it all drain.
3) Now start running a lot of water through it. 10-20 gallons to flush all salts out in the same bucket and let it all drain.
4) Now you mix up the charge in another 5 gallon bucket- ph 1/4 strength nutes and 10ml of cal mag. You want a lot of cal-mag so the coco can grab all it needs. Put the coco back into a bucket without drain holes and pour that weak nute/ cal mag/ phed mixture into the rinsed coco and let it sit for 15 minutes.
5) Pour it back in the drain bucket.
6) Last step for me is to run 1/2 strength phed nutes thru it again with maybe 10-20% runoff and place the clones or seeds into it.
I'm sure people do it other ways, that is just my way:tiphat:

You feed it nutes and cal mag ec .7? Cal/mag is like poison in coco. Unless you are using RO water you should never add it as your base nutes should supply all you need.
