another pot size and yield ?, Could someone help?.

Hi, I've seen many posts regarding pot size and yield and they get confusing or turn into a bunch of experienced guys debating each other.
I would like to put my question simply and I hope to get some help.
I jave a friend in CO who has 6 1000w hps in a 16x13x8' room.
Now from what I've heard he can expect to get approx 1lb per 1000w which would be 6lbs , he will flower 12 plants which means he should be getting 1/2lb per plant on average.
to get this yield how long should plants veg and how tall can he expect them to get in order to achieve this yield?
And my final queation is how big of a pot should they finish in.
Plants are in promix hp.
Hope to get some help on this...thank you. :)

Well, 1 lb per 1000Kw is pretty low. I'm not sure flowering 12 plants under 6K watts in Promix is an efficient method. Your friend can definitely do better, and depending on strain should be hitting close to 1.5+lb per light. That said, here is what I would do to achieve that:

Finishing pot should be minimum 3Gal. Place 12 plants under each light. Veg them for 3-4 weeks after transplanting to the 3Gal pots, then begin flowering. Flower normally and your friend should be able to hit 2-3 oz per plant.

If you can't or do not want the high plant count, use bigger pots (5Gal+) and fewer plants, say 6 per light. Then you will have to veg longer so the entire pot can be filled with roots. The bigger the rootball, the bigger the buds.

If your friend insists on using Promix and only 12 plants, get the biggest pots you can find and veg them for 6-8 weeks. But again, it's a very inefficient method and your yield might still be less than using more plants.

Also, the longer you have to veg the taller the plants will get, obviously. Then they will stretch in flower. If you go with few plants and long veg times, you will need to top or bend the plants because they will exceed your 8ft ceiling height. That is another reason to go with more plants and shorter veg time.

Well veg set up consists of four 4'x2' 8 bulb t5 fixtures if that helps any...
And 12 plants at a time in flower would be the limit. Do you think vegging under the t5s will provide a large enough rootball in 8weeks time? And twelve plants would be managable to top and train the hell out of

I assumed you would be vegging under the HIDs, so I'm not sure. But you can probably make it work.
