Yes good to see this thread back (thanks mods) I guess I missed the BS but really this thread is full of great encouragement and positive vibes.

Some of you have surely seen me in here before. Kind of failing with the whole not drinking thing these days... more worried about legal issues/consequences than anything but lots of credit to all of you out there even hitting the smallest milestone. I think a lot of us following this thread know the feeling.

I'm not trying to quit completely, but I need to cut back. I've been drinking almost every night for a few months now. I have to get back to a healthy level of drinking. One or zero drinks on weekdays, and 3 or 4 at most on a Friday or Saturday.

These are some practical tips I've found useful when trying to take a break (temporary or permanent). Stay busy that first week. Work late if you can, and go to bed early. Less free time at the end of the day means I have less time to think about drinking.

One drink right before bed helps me get to sleep for the first few days, but it's better to find other ways to sleep. Weed, melatonin, benadryl, taurine, theanine, they all help. Prescription sleeping pills can be great for the first few nights. They just aren't the best idea for long term use.

A small amount of kava can feel great as an alcohol replacement. If gives some of the same relaxing feelings without cravings for more. A little too much can make you feel sick, so it's a self-limiting thing. You can take a small amount for a nice little buzz, or you can skip it. Bigger doses aren't more fun.

Ultimately it's best to get to the point where you don't need an alcohol replacement.

the horrors i've seen would make anyone stay the hell away from booze,, at the end of the day nothing makes you feel much worse than alcohol,, it's essentially a isomer of plastic, polluting your synapses till your cns can't function and then killing one of your most essential assets for a healthy full life on the way out of your blood your liver.

so sad that that is the state sanctioned poison but freemasons make billions from shortening the lives of the cattle the chase around.

when you see a young person die from alchohol poisoning it really seems like the stupidest thing humans ever invented. what the fuck is the binge drinking culture thing about? why are we letting and encouraging students to get heavily into debt by drinking as though it's just a normal part of growing up,, so so sad..

I wish all the power to anyone suffering with this blight, we all love you and want you to get well!

I just wanted to let ya'll know reading this thread that if any of you are struggling with drinking, you can post any problems or questions here or pm me if regarding staying clean one more day. I am no counselor but been around and will try to help anyway. Besides fancy book smart types really have no clue what its really like unless you been there though they will seem to have all the answers. When young I thought to listen to them and my Government, but after lifes realities and the government in an insane amount of debt, I realize that they are the problem, not me. 200 years ago peeps would have took up arms with such a usless spending government like this, but people are soooo spoiled with things and can't do without there things and pussies anymore in my opinion. Why did we sit back and let them get in such insane debt. Should have never been in debt to begin with. All the fancy shit we all have isn't gonna last by the way and will only bring some temporary happiness to cloud the mind more from the real truth. Venting a little I guess. Grow up America and stop being led by the mans(boys, cause real men don't act like that) hand and lets do something about all this shit. Men where the fuck are you. Bunch of Big Boys anymore with there fancy toys. Greed will be the end of you if you do not change your ways and repent of your deceitful doings. I am still here for anyone who wants to talk sobriety, but will always call it as it is and will not pull punches as we are to pussified already, most anyway. Truth is what it is. Peace to all the real men out there and to those that genuinely care about all of life and its contents. peace...:tiphat: SR
*** I know this is the alcohol thread, but if anyone is struggling with cocaine, pills or heroin; I have been there too and over a decade clean. You can pm me if you really want help and I will do my best to lead you in the right direction. Main problem with directions is you need to follow them all the way(and no shortcuts) to the end or you'll never reach the destination. In this case sobriety. I will also keep it strictly confidential unless you want to share publicly, but this is the alcohol thread so maybe a different thread for alt drugs. Let me know and I'll do all I can.

hi speed racer I think the principal of AA about not revealing people short coming outside of the circle or meeting should be observed and not be dragged out here unless they post it themselves .people do better with help in private is I guess what I am trying to say . the old saying you can lead a horse to water but you can not make them drink is a lot like sobriety if a person really desires more than anything to quit they will maybe not the first time they try but eventually they will succeed with support and patience from those of us who went down the path to far but were able to reverse our life and our problem with alcohol .

most people don't have a problem and don't understand what alcoholism is . I just want to encourage anyone who wants to stop being powerless over alcohol to do so .tis a hard path in the beginning but there is no other way than not to do what ever it is that takes your life and turns it to garbage .don't matter if its booze or coke or pills what ever it is you have to let it go and learn to love yourself again before you will be free and once again stand on your own without chemical crutches aloha cls

Glad to hear peeps staying sober and nice checkin in on peeps Stoner4life. Had a very very bad morning and glad had some very good smoke and God to talk too. Better now, but actually had a quick thought to get a drink and even saw a Busch beer can carelessly tossed in the woods while hiking and tried to capture my thoughts and will. I think I will to be sober. Thank God again.
Vegas (gambling) can be very addictive too and much more expensive. Never been or will, but heard does have some great shows. Maybe a trip to Branson, MO for me. If you do stay sober you'll probably make better choices too and either win more or lose less. Find some good thinking herb to take on your trip or maybe even some trippy weed like Malawi with all the lights and shows etc. Keep on the grass and off the booze and you'll live much richer and longer. peace... :tiphat: SR

its not easy to stop what has become a everyday habit but one day at a time and a deep rooted desire to get your life back and under your control again will do it for you. you did not lose control over night and you will not get it back at the snap of a finger or the drop of a hat it takes time and practice at saying your the most important thing in your life and not what you put in you .

it was hard for me and I had many relapses before I got totally alcohol free but the last 30 years have been a blessed miracle for me because of that effort to get sober and stay sober and be a better parent and husband and friend .when I lost my wife to cancer I had a very large excuse to go get drunk .I did not and will not ever allow it or anything else but love motivate my life and make my decisions now .keep trying don't give up it will happen if you want it as much as breathing as much as life its self aloha cls

Good Luck Green Dream ..

I went to Vegas last weekend and didn't drink.

I haven't had a drink since before Thanksgiving :tiphat:

.

High Green dream. I just wanted to say that I have way less friends now and very happy with that. I refuse to have heavy drinkers as good friends anymore and they don't get it or even care many times. I also can't stand how obnoxious people can get when drinking and try kissing a girl who drank when you didn't, yuk. I hope you can stay sober and only 5 days clean and having a drinking party. You need to try and find some sober friends and are some around and AA has some good peeps and free coffee too. I do suggest the 12 steps and do work, but no reason to make it a religion as some do unless you still feel that weak. Bye the end of the 12 steps, done correctly, you should be able to say no and be much stronger mentally by then. Some need constant help as refuse to change their thinking or old friends. Not saying you can't still be friends with drinkers, just not hangin' out or they will eventually pull you into their stuff which could include an accident or even death. Not so with weed. If you have some fire smoke. Try to get them maybe to just smoke and not drink. Booze mixed with anything like weed will increase the effect and they will think too much. Weed alone is sufficient. Even hide the booze you already have as though you have nada and see there reaction. Heavy drinkers need there booze and watch them flip, but pull out if necessay the booze, but don't partake. Get up the next morning early as I assume their staying overnight and make breakfast and be all cheery as you will the only one without a hangover I'd presume. Or just dump all you bought already and don't take chances is what I'd do. All the best in you sobriety and never give up even if you fail many times, get up and this time walk around the hole. peace... :tiphat:SR

hi everyone keep up the good work on yourselfs its hard to change the course of your life ,but its far easier the longer you stay the course and don't drink .I have friends who drink but no more shit faced falling down ones. when we go fishing or socialize it does not have any attraction to me anymore .but it was years before I could be around people drinking and not want to feel like I was tempting fate by doing so.it's really up to you when you think your strong enough to temp fate and be around people drinking ,just remember its easy to say no thank you to offers of a drink .

misery loves company and if your still hanging out with people you drank heavy with they don't see the problem behind drinking yet and they are your biggest problem to finding a sober alcohol free life .make some new friends if you find these are what most of your present friends consist of . take it one day at a time and don't beat yourself up in your mind about what other people are thinking its your life your saving no one elses .your staying the course and not drinking matters ,but if those are the kinds of friends you still choose chances are your not going to have a very easy time of getting sober and staying sober aloha cls
