Question about selling lighting

Okay my main question is this; I am fairly proficient in wiring and metal work. If I wanted to make home made CFL and HPS/MH/CMH fixtures/reflectors and such, would I be able to have a thread on the forums for selling them, are there any rules prohibiting this? Thanks for info one and all!

I think that if you are trying to vend products here, you are required to become a vendor. Not sure what is entailed in doing that, but there is a heading at the top of most pages called "ICMAG", with a sub-menu for "Advertise in ICMAG".

Not as a vendor, not as a business. Just as a person willing to make people the lighting they need if at a viably reasonable cost compared to name brand hoods/reflectors and such. Obviously for a profit for myself, but if able to much cheaper than a name brand system. It's an idea I am going off of since I know there are a lot of tutorials here, yet some people, lets face it, couldn't build a 1 piece anything, but also who don't want to shell out the major money that many systems cost. Just an idea I am entertaining. :)

I think that ICMAG looks at it like this:

ven·dor
ˈvendər,-ˌdôr/

a person or company offering something for sale

yes please use the advertising form......BEFORE U start trying to move/push/sale/test/utilize our members......
U must meet certain criteria to become a vendor...
and even then advertising space on the board cost additional monies....

The electrical testing industry uses standards for the safe use and competence of engineers established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA).

Well, I am not going to lie; that would be a somewhat harsh mindset to have, especially if growers were only trying to sell something one time (say you upgraded your light, dont want to keep the old one laying around and such). But I do understand why you would say that, and where they would be coming from.

Yortbogey; Thanks, of course I would before doing anything if I needed to. I apologize if I seemed argumentative about being a vendor, but when someone says vendor the idea comes of person/company that doesn't build their product but instead resells other companies products.

Why dont you start making some prototypes?

If you can offer a higher quality product at a lower price and keep up with demand, you will do just fine.
