A try at Green/Purple Haze x Thai outdoors at 44 degrees north

Nice one yoss, I agree about the lovely thin leaves on the oldtimer's haze. Indeed who can resist? One thing I found when putting sativas close together in a good climate like yours is that they tend to compete for light and pack on the height. As such a plant that will normally be 10 foot, can easily turn 15 with close planting. I saw it this year with some self seeded plants that shot up like bamboo, it was actually a good outcome, because I cut the weaker ones leaving the vigorous ones to thrive. I hope you get some closed to finished buds before December. Are you thinking of pulling the Haze 1? Generally I tend to throw anything that isn't healthy. But I bet one of those Haze Thai would go well in your primary spot. I also don't mind to pick them early for the clear racy high. I think there's a specific window where the plant is at it's peak, then after that potency drops off very quickly. Best luck man.

Hi Bushy,

Hope life is treating you well?

I wondered if anyone has run or tried the Purple Haze x Malawi? They were all gone by the time I saw them so instead I have a pack of the Malawi x PCK (Violeta) in rockwool atm - I wanted something to fill in what little empty space my insanely large SSH have left in the garden.

Hi, Bushy! And thanks for the kind words!
Actually, after seeing that the Haze 1 is recovering very slowly, yesterday I swapped the places of the Haze 1 and HxT #4, so now HxT #4 is at my prime spot.
HxT #4 is not the most vigorous of the HxTs, maybe due to roots damaged by the mole, but it is still the only one to show unmistakably female pre-flowers, preflowering at every node. I hope the quick and solid pre-flowering will translate into solid flowering with quicker onset.

Hello, people :tiphat:

As a Haze fan, I'm very keen on trying Oldtimer's Haze. I have experience with the dutch Hazes, but this one seems so pure and tropical with its very thin blades. Can a sativa lover resist these thin, thin leaves? I can't
Of course, the tropical looks comes together with a December/January harvest time, which is impossible for my outdoor climate - I'm at 44 degrees north and second half of November is usually the latest time to harvest. I saw photos posted by Dubi where OTH is just starting to bud in the beginning of November. So, pure OTH is out of question. But I'm curious to see how OTH x Meao Thai will do. It is said to be quite close to the pure OTH in terms of effect and is listed as December harvest, which means that in the end of November it already must have some "buds" and resin. I like the electric effects and fresh flavour of early harvest, so no problem to harvest it with all trichomes crystal-clear.
I received a free pack with 6 seeds of Tropical Mix together with my order of Zamaldelica at the end of 2012. I remember that I went through the threads to see what's in this particular mix (sold at the end of 2012) and saw Dubi describe it as mostly Green/Purple Haze x Thai F2 & F3, and a few Guatemalas. 5 of the seeds in the pack are small and dark, just like Haze and Thai seeds look like, and 1 is bigger and paler in color. It is Guatemalan, I guess.

So far, so good.

Hi yoss :)

You really have courage to grow this extreme tropical sativas at your latitude :) I'm glad you are giving a chance to our tropical mix, as you said tropical mix genetics are mainly haze (green or purple) x thai.

Oldtimer's Haze and pure hazes finish between December and early January, the haze x thais take more or less the same time to mature, maybe 1-2 weeks lesser, hopefully you find some early finishers. Crossing fingers also for a good November, it's the moment when tropical hazes start to fatten up, and December to mature.

I'm sure they will be huge at the end of summer. Best wishes!

Thank you, Dubi!
I don't hope for good maturation of the Haze x Thais, all I need is trichomes, heh.

Here's the weekly update:

The plants have been chewed by critters and hit by a hailstorm which made some damage on HxT #3's and Flos' fatter leaves. The thin-leaved Hazes seem unaffected.

Here are the 3 HxTs, together with the Haze 1 at HxT #4's place, which I'll soon discard if not improving:

HxT #1:

HxT #2, which is bringing out some bigger leaves:

And HxT #4 at its new place. It's smaller than the other 3 HxTs because of lost roots during the transplant, but I guess it will soon catch up at the better place:

And a funky fly appreciating the privileged plant :)

Just a quick update of HxT #4. It's still building roots at its new place but is starting to form nice dense structure. I remember reading Dubi's descriptions of the OT Haze mothers Ace selected and used for breeding the line. One of them was a Purple Haze mother which Dubi described as having compact, columnar structure. Maybe HxT #4 is a child of this Haze mom, we'll see :)

I'll upload more photos this evening.

Beautiful guerrilla spot yoss33 :)

There's a more compact, robust and columnar Green Haze pheno, it usually finishes 1-2 weeks earlier than the average hazes. The Purple Hazes have (in overall) a lankier structure.

Best wishes!

HxT #4 was the only one to show purple on the leaf stems while the plant was a seedling. That's why I thought it's probably a Purple Haze x Thai, but I don't mind it being a green Haze too, hehe. As long as it's a Haze.

Here's a quick weekly update.

... and here they are at 5:30pm when they are shaded by the nearby bushes. When they get taller, their tops will not be in the shadows so early.

Wow, great job.

Wow, great job.

Your hazes look great compared to mine. My purple haze Thais are about 1/3 the size of yours. Yet you started about the same time as I.

The only major difference is that my garden bed is made from garden waste and food scraps and dirt. I never spent a single dime on anything other than a watering pail and epsom salts (my plants started yellowing).

My point was to find the most efficient way of growing da ganja, aside from keeping it as organic/veganic as possible. My first grow too, so I'm facing much more than just experimental growing medium. For sure its a lot harder than it looks.

Anyways, great job on your trees. I' ll be pulling up a chair.

Hi All,

Sad to report only 1 of the Violeta seedlings, after all seeds cracking, 2 weeks indoors and then outside for hardening off then transplanted into ground, has barely survived this bizarre mix of extreme heat/sun and periodic nightly downpours we have been having here in S.E. Asia. However, my other 10 indica seedlings I put out are doing quite well. I must have done something that weakened them or perhaps my soil is too hot (lightly amended with worm castings, peanut shells, vitamin B and burnt rice husks and mixed in perlite (about 10% perlite 90% soil)). I'll give Ace another chance someday...So many different genetics to grow and so little time to do it.

Be Well, P77

Good luck with the Haze x Thais, 1withdaCouch! A nice strain you have selected for your first grow :)

We had a rainy week, but the progress is nice.

HxT #4 is picking up momentum. Here's an evening shot (6:30pm) taken short after a spraying with a leaf fertilizer (commercial preparation of compost extract + CaO) and a pyrethroid. This is the second time the HxTs get treated this way.
