I have a med man just like
This and a male critical mass that has 4 instead of 3 nodes in each bud site.
I always view this as extra bud :)

I have a skunk clone that went trip after i cut it from the mother. It stayed this way until the 4-5 node then reverted. I figure it was due to the stress. I cut off the nodes after the trip and now have a once topped plant w/ 3 new tops. the new tops arent trip. Go figure. cheers

Is this trait worthy, or should she be culled?

Pictured is the plant before sexing, natch.

I cant tell what ya got with those pics.. Plants that have 3 sets of leaves on one node is called a trifoliate. They will grow 3 buds on ea if they dont grow out of it.

Trifoliate refers to compound leaves with three leaflets. Branching patterns where more than 2 branches occur at each node is Whorled phyllotaxy, as BurntRope stated in 2012.

I don't personally think the trait is good or bad per se. Potentially it can result in more/faster branching pattern, but every time I have seen it, it is transient.

Cannabis becomes alternate when sexually mature anyway, so wont show in clones. Even if genetically stable from seed, while cool, the trait has limited application.

Dropped Cat- Certainly no reason to cull. Keep it.

Hey Sam, do yours veg at the same rate as others?

What compelled you to maintain the few you have?

The one I have is easily one half the size of the others
that popped the same day.

I am flowering her and the stretch is also less pronounced.

Haha, perhaps I just answered my own questions.

Yes Sam, I am also interested in why you maintain it and your observations about the trait.

What are your opinions as to whether it has any practical use for growers?

Thanks

Here is a whorled plant in bud.

I don't know the strain. It was gifted in a large sack of NorCal beans whose parents could include Afghani #1, Maui Wowie, Grape Ape, Trainwreck, and a handful of others that he wasn't sure of.

I pollinated a branch from each female bud that was open pollinated with all of the males of the 30 seeds I popped, so this is a seeded bud - rest of the plant was chopped already..

I had one and if I can figure out how to post it I will. I broke a branch and the top on the branch was hidden from the light for about 6 weeks. When I found it, it was poly. I had it displayed at the mkt and a guy gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. I still have no idea if it was any good or not. The rest of the plant was a 4 out of 5 stars.

I’ve had whorled plants that were female and I took this one to flower when small. A lot of them turn out to be male. I made a bunch of seeds with her but haven’t got around to popping any.

Value? With this particular plant my thinking was if you could stabilize, it would be a good candidate for a SOG.
