Its Trypp's first hydro grow.

Well, this is my first major grow. Maybe not major compared to some but biggest grow for me, in the best set up I have ever had. So I am not complaining.

Unfortunately the home depot's and Lowes around my area does NOT carry mylar or panda film, so having to wait to set up the actual tent for them to grow in (I know... light leak, but nothing I can do until it comes in)

For Veg I am using;

SunSystem 250w/400w reflector and Balast
MaxLume 400w Metal Halide bulb
4 5-gallon hydro buckets set up off of Dr. D's hydro article
Dutch Master A+B Nutrients (Grow)
Dutch Master Add.27 (Grow)
ActiveAqua 45 LPM air pump with 6 hose manifold

For Bloom I will be using:

A 600w ballast w/ Raptor Reflector and 600w HPS bulb (These will be bought next month, the money just wasn't there for it this month.)
Dutch Master A+B Nutrients (Bloom)
Dutch Master Add.27 (bloom)

Obviously other than the light and nute change, going to be exactly the same set up lol, but figure give as much information as I can think to give, in the case that anyone follows this and decides they want to try it as well. :)

Anyways, it looks quite unimpressive right now, but hopefully in the next week or so it will look quite remarkable ;)

Oh, and yes the seedlings are in rapid rooters and still being top fed until their roots hit the bottom of the net pots :)

How many plants are you going to grow? How big are you able to let them get in your grow space?

I'm getting ready to do my first grow ever, it will also be hydro. Advice Welcome.

- BC Northern Lights - BloomBox
- BC Northern Lights - Mothership
- Titan Hyperion 1 Atmospheric Controller
- CO2 Regulator/Tank
- Battery Backup (Working on a homemade version, amazon has great deals on SLA batteries with high AmpHours. I converted my sons powerwheels from a 9.5 AH SLA battery to a 26 AH Rhino SLA battery and it was super inexpensive)

I'm using my closet to hold the grow boxes. I decided to get a rolling 12,500 BTU AC/Heater to run independently, cooling and dehumidifying only the closet, hoping that keeps temps inside the boxes consistant. Maybe it will save me a little power by not having to cool my whole house all day too. Since I was on a spending spree I went ahead and got a Oreck Air Cleaner too (total over kill, but wtf its my new hobby :). Just got done ripping the carpet out of the closet and installing Fo hard wood floors. I'm reading as much as I possible can on ICMAG but if anyone has used these specific systems and has some advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Hmm, it may just be me, and i might be completely wrong, but doesn't having an air cleaner counter act the reason for having a CO2 tank and regulator? o_O

Other than that; Just the 4 plants for now, I might grow more later depending on how well this grow goes :) (more as in more per run, as I am definitely still growing after this lol). I am not currently restricted by height, but have minor girth limitations. They have a 5x5 foot growing area, about as large as I can spare without the old lady killing me lol.

And as for advice; don't over do it for the first run. I originally was going to spend almost 700$ on a bigger system that required a bigger light and such, it wasn't worth it for what I wanted to accomplish and wound up knocking the price of everything down to $370 after shopping around and finding the best bang for my buck. :) I also made really good friends with the guys working at the hydro shop, so they ended up giving me employee discounts on everything :) (saved over 120$!!!)

But other than that, is listen to most other people, and on a system like mine read Dr. D's original post on the his bucket set up. Got a lot of the information that made me feel comfortable and confident in using this system on there.

Good luck! (And yeah that A/C unit should work fine for a closet sized space. Just make sure to have an appropriate light, don't overkill it for the space.)

I can tell you from experience that it will work. I am growing in a closet in my basement which is always cool, but in the winter is quite chilly. My temperature ranges with/without the lights was 20 degrees F and my girls were hurting. I put a heater in the closet, relying on the negative pressure from my inline to pull in the warm air, and it worked like a charm! If cooling is your problem, just be careful about mold. You don't want to cause mold to grow in your closet. Thats a health problem for not just your plants!

Hey Trypp! Looking good, bro! I can't wait to see your girls growing up. I'm subbed now, so I won't miss your updates. I read Dr. D's thread and I must say the simplicity of his setup is making me re-think hydro...

Yeah Grynch, that's why I was queuing you in on my grow so you can see it first hand :) I know you want to stick to coco (trust me I love coco! It was my medium for my first girl who just started producing some nice preflowers :D and she is getting nice and bushy like I wanted, you can check on my Auto flower growth thread on the new growers forums :) ), but after seeing how simple this set up is, and how easy it was to make, has me sold on it. I will be updating these a few times every week, I am looking at getting a better camera so I can take some good pictures :) Anyways stay tuned! :)

blow it up trypp!

Not to be critical but I think you might want to use a little tape to seal around your exhaust tube. Seems like you might get some unwanted light leaking in.

Thanks for the Advice Tripp, I will check out D's thread.

As far as overdoing it goes, I am way past that. Money is spent, products delivered. Right now I am trying to figure out how to put all this stuff in my closet and still have space for my wifes clothes! I'll post a pic today when I get some of the boxes unpacked. The excitement is palpable.

As far as the post above, I misread something and thought it was your first grow as well, not just your first using this method, so sorry for the 101 advice :-/

Hey Grynch,

Yeah, I am in a hot humid area so a/c is a must. I own a storage facility here and I am quite familiar with the mold problems when humidity gets above 60% for too long. I'm getting advice that I should keep the ambient air in the closet at 65-72 degrees but what should it be in the flowering chamber of the bloombox? I made a little adjustment to the bloombox by drilling a small hole in the back and running the Hyperion 1 sensor inside the box. This way I am actually getting information on what the girls are experiencing. Not the clothes in my closet. Anyway, what temp did your girls end up being the most happy?

It's fine, I really didn't take offence. Truth be told I did know about the exhaust, but I ran out of tape before I could finish it entirely. There is alst about an 18'' pportion on the wall with the zipper that is wide open. :/ Gotta run tomorrow to get more and finish lol!

Luckily, most AC units will also remove humidity, as long as you are routing the water outside of the closet, you should be fine. Buddha Haze likes warmer temps, so my current temp differential is 73-82 farenheit (lights off/on). I use a temperature controlled outlet that is located inside the tent, so the external heater is triggered by conditions inside the tent.

Trypp, sorry to hijack your thread man..

No worries Grynch. Having information not always explicitly related is helpful, not to mention is how other people will come along to learn. But yeah, as I have said, I need some more duct tape for the tent to finish it up entirely but compared to what I had in the past been running this is beautiful.

The air cleaner wont have any effect on the CO2. Sorry about hijacking your tread, I'm also new to forums so it's taking me a sec to learn the proper courtesies. :-/

Trypp are you going to keep using this thread to show your grow progress?:tiphat:

I'm thinking you won't wanna use CO2 and the scrubber together. It's the idea to keep the CO2 in the room, yes? A scrubber removing air from the room will also remove CO2. I was thinking those using CO2 were sealing the rooms when the CO2 is on - meaning scrubber off.

No one needs to worry about hijacking the thread lol!

Yes; I am going to be keeping this updated to show progress on the plants!

As for the Co2 scrubber; my biggest concern is making sure there isn't an overly potent odor exuding from the tent during flowering. But if it's just going to eat through any Co2 I add to the room then there is no point in me using it. Any other suggestions from anyone on mitigating the smell that will come from my outtake?

You could have bought 4 x 8 sheets of foam board and made a make shift tent

FYI, I used DM for a year, then got a sample of Hydroponic-Research V+B

It's da bomb

Thanks Flora, I will keep the foam in mind for after this grow. I was originally going to make a PVC frame... but my fiance was already stressing over the $ being spent so figured I would go a bit cheaper :x
